“Extraordinary Means” is a story about kids who have tuberculosis and go to a “private” school. Lane joins and meets many people including, Sadie, Nick, Charlie, and more. Lane and his crew go through many struggles and problems throughout the book. After Lane had been at the school for a week or so, Sadie realizes that she knew Lane from past events. Lane and Sadie start to have feelings for each other, but this affects the whole group of friends. Throughout the whole story, they go on adventures out of the enclosed school, make lots of memories, and even break the rules. But one night, everything would change for the group and nothing would ever be the same.
I personally love this book! This book made me feel aware of how other people have
I loved this book so much. There is so much action and is so much better and exciting with so much amazing detail and description. This is one of my favorite books ever. When you read it, you don’t want to put it down and it makes you feel like you are with the characters in the book and you know them so well. I recommend this book to anyone who can read at this level.
Did this book inspire you to want to do more research on the subject? Why? Why not?
Although my interest was lost in certain parts of the book, it did teach me a lot about being successful
Malcolm Gladwell insists throughout his book, Outliers: The Story of Success, that the recipe for achievement is not simply based on personal talents or innate abilities alone. Gladwell offers the uncommon idea that outliers largely depend upon “extraordinary opportunities and cultural legacies” (Gladwell19). According to Gladwell, successful men and women are beneficiaries of relationships, occasions, places, and cultures. The author draws on a different case study in each chapter to support a particular argument concerning success. Despite his indifference and suppression in regards to counterarguments, Gladwell’s claims are effective for many reasons, including through the accounts of experts, tone and style of writing, and the
There were a few points in this book that taught me about life and how crazy it can be sometimes. The photographer named Fulgencio was very afraid of hitch hiking to Mexico City with a stranger, especially with all of us expensive equipment. On the ride, Fulgencio is so paranoid that the guy is going to kill him, he grabs a machete out of the back of the truck. In doing so he gets kicked out of the car and loses all of his photography equipment anyways. This taught me that we need to trust each other more, Just because there are a few crazy people in the world, we shouldn't let them give us all a bad name. I mean, the guy picked Fulgencio up when he was in desperate need of a car, and gives him a ride. He should have been thankful, not picked up a machete and threaten the guy. Another thing this book taught me was that just because your sister doesn't want your kid anymore because she
I will recommend this book to everyone because it has elements that I feel most books do not have. It was enjoyable to read because I have had many problems with my father and this book helped me come to a revelation. This book kept me going and all I wanted to do was curl up underneath my covers and read this book. It was such an inspirational tool that will never leave my heart and I will always cherish how it made me feel. I am really excited to read his other book Into the Air. If it is anything like this book, I will love
Your book An Invisible Thread was very inspiring and a heartwarming story of a friendship that has reached thirty years and brought life to an over-scheduled professional and hope to a hungry and desperate boy. It's a very inspirational story, that left me in tears many times. I loved the relationship that grew with you and Maurice.. Even though I would get sometimes confused, you made it very easy to feel your emotions as well as his, telling the stories of your childhood. This book will really make people stop and think about what kind of person they are. I don't believe many people are like you. I don't think many people would have stopped to help a young boy asking for money on the street. But I would like to believe this book would help
Another thing that I liked about the book is that at the beginning, the wake/vigil/funeral was so accurately described. Funerals are awkward, tiring, and numbing. Meursault
I did actually really like this book. I was not sure if I was going to enjoy it when the project was first assigned, but after reading for a while, I became really interested
The book A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer is an exquisite book. It is Mr. Pelzers’ way of dealing with the dark night of his soul. He tells his journey through extreme child abuse, and how he overcame his past and now uses it for good. When I was younger and going through a rough time I picked up this book and read it in one day, I was overwhelmed with the fact that someone made it out of all that ,this great man did and he still continued to have a positive attitude. Seeing that he could face his past, now as an adult I know I can face mine. As I read his story tears poured down my face
This book was a very good read. It was very eye opening. More than what I expected. It was a very well written book about the hidden lives of young
My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when a stranger is a potential threat. This was fascinating to me because I’ve been told since I was just a little boy to beware of strangers. But with all these warnings about strangers I had never been told how to recognize when a
One of the helpful people in this book that stood out to me was Mama P. Her intuitive knowledge of her "babies" is amazing. To have the strength and patience to bring in and care for a child like Robert is beautiful. I would love to meet and learn from someone like that.
I really liked the book. It was very enjoyable to read. I would recommend it to my friends, because I think they
The reason I chose this book is because it is about a different culture and a different life than of anyone I know.
