Editor’s note: Today we hear from Cristina González Alcalá, “Tech Wizard” and Research Associate at Summit Education Initiative, a nonprofit organization that’s on a mission to improve personal and regional prosperity through increased educational attainment. Through their data sharing program, SEI aims to empower county educators and education stakeholders in helping students meet the high standards needed for the demands of the future.
We at Summit Education Initiative envision a future in which every student graduates prepared, passionate, and persistent with a clear career pathway. We work with our partner educational institutions

We then transform this data into actionable information and share it with our partners so that they can determine the factors that will positively impact our students' educational journey.
The resulting information, however, would usually become too complex and not easily digestible. We faced the challenge of securing, managing, and delivering data efficiently because significant amounts of data would be shared through multiple spreadsheets and in different formats. We realized we needed a solution that would enable us to centralize our collection of data and would allow our partners to quickly and securely access of the data.
Secure and Easy-To-Use Online Database Platform
Initially, we were drawn to Caspio for the ease by which we could build searchable databases within minutes. True enough, we found the platform easy to understand and use because it resembled a desktop database management software that we were already familiar with. As a result, we were able to create an online database system that fits our requirements and without the need for additional
As part of the community’s growth, large technology firms moved into the community and while they were willing to assist local schools, they also expected high school graduates to be skilled technology workers (MacDonald, 2006). To meet this need, the school board adopted a goal of providing a technology resource teacher in every school within the next three years. In addition, the school board had a five-year plan to increase and support instruction and instructional leadership in schools and improve student assessment scores on state exams in mathematics. In two years they planned to reduce language
I see students as the next generations’ heroes in so many fields. In my vision, I have to inspire students and prepare them with confidence, knowledge, experience and skills. Which means I encourage, communicate, guide, teach, and assess students in order to enrich their infrastructures.
I’m writing to propose an initiative to reform Arizona’s high school curriculum to include digital technology as a part of the graduation requirements for students. Implementing technology courses as part of the core standards in high school provides opportunities for students to learn how to effectively communicate and share ideas with others. This is skill they will use and need in future opportunities when communicating with business peers who live in different parts of the world.
The data gathered may likewise assist the parents to create a learning environment and to motivate their child to the learning/interest that they have not achieved.
In their article, Students Step up to Lead Tech Implementation at Their Elementary School, Taryn Handlon and Tiffany Costa write about how TechXpert all started with an idea for prominent engagement. The Roosevelt Elementary School in Park Ridge, Illinois, had begun implementing new tools such as Chromebooks, Spheros, Dash and Dots, Cubelets, Snap Circuits, Osmos, Marble Mazes and a 3D printer to the classrooms, which highlighted the schools desire to collaborate technology with learning. This would not only transform the whole classroom environment, but also open the door for young students to explore computer science and technical engineering. The only issue seemed to be that teachers had no time to educate themselves on the tools and how
* To inspire and motive the youth of our nation into become productive and responsible adults. I plan to do this by making sure they contribute to their intellectual, academic, and cultural
This paper will discuss the Community College System as it is predicted to be known in the future. The higher education community is setting forth on a new journey into the twenty-first century. Embarking into a new millennium is a factor fueling a transformation of the educational system such as new market learners of all ages, cost effective education, customized education, and convenient education (Ryland, 2016). Although technology should not drive the direction of any college, it will be a tremendous asset toward strategic goals of the college, more specifically, assisting students in their educational endeavors (Ryland, 2016). To add to the struggle of technology in education in the future, de los Santos and Milliron (2015), suggest
The use of computers in the classroom has been a major component in the development training for students to get ready for a more technologically advanced workplace. Sheldon defines the problem of untrained administrators, teachers, and other public school officials that did not know how to use the computers provided for educating the students. IN one example at the “Rancho Bizarro” school, Sheldon defines the inability of educators to be trained in computer technology: “Teachers endured countless mind-numbing sermons on the power of technology, but failed to develop the necessary computer skills” (Rossett 210). In this manner, the problem of performance analysis for public school officials was a major barrier to properly educating the students. Turtle Middle School is another example of a computer technology expert, Tiffany Banana, that was brought in to order computers, and other technologies to educate the students.
It is my mission to become an educator with the proficiency, knowledge and resources to encourage academic excellence and provide the opportunity for students to enhance their educational practice and to increase their intellectual productivity through technology. I will provide sufficient resources to encourage the use of technology across the curriculum.
It is no secret that technology plays a critical role in our society. In fact, it has become one of the most used items in the world, starting from personal computers and ending in smartphones, thus it was only a matter of time when educational institutions would start to utilize these gadgets in order to improve the overall state of current education. According to a U.S Department of Education (UDE, n.d) report, all 48 states, including the District of Columbia are now offering online education. Additionally, the report states that these schools operate on all kinds of scales, including state scale, district scale and charter scale, thus it would safe to assume that the whole state of current education in the United States is large and the whole approach is clearly technology based. However, despite the
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, and we can research any desired topic on our smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been utterly momentous. Educators have now seen firsthand the numerous benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators have come to the conclusion that technology has a positive impact on the education process. Educators have also recognized the significance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate (Cox). By incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with how
This plan is intended to guide technological development at Fair Street IB World School for the next three years. It will support teaching and learning as directly referenced in the Fair Street IB World School mission, the IB Learner Profile, and the ISTE Standards. We will create technology-rich classroom environments by providing staff, students and the school community training in all areas of technology. The vision is also supported by current research-based best practices of instruction, which are reflected by Creighton (2003) in which integrating effective technology will increase analyzing, interpreting, predicting, and synthesizing skills that require students to make connections, delve deeply into texts and contexts, and create new understanding (p. 50).
Mission Statement: As an educator I will provide for students the opportunity to make a positive difference in their lives to help them accomplish unexpected goals. I will enhance learning to support my students in achieving their highest potential by integrating technology into the curriculum. I will integrate conceptual technology learning techniques that will implement concrete knowledge of technology that will emphasize mastery of understanding. Through committed support from educators, faculty, staff, parents, and the community, I will advance learning to support my students. This will allow students to become confident, creative, motivated, technology-ready students. I will provide leadership to
The complex social and historical foundations of education are rooted in the need to create a population of citizens capable of contributing to the continuing economic and political stability of our nation. First we were an agricultural society, then industrial, and now we are educating students for futures with that are yet unknown (explainvisualthinking, 2007). The new dynamic, created by the recent and rapid expansion of technology driven globalization has created the compelling need for technology infused education in our schools (Friedman, 2005). As an educational technology leader, I collaborate with other educators and families to create technology initiatives that will support educational technology in our schools.
The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
