My opening message in the online tutor group was:
Hi Guys,
Having read all the posts in here it seems that I am in the minority in saying I love all that Google do.
While I totally appreciate the slight negative opinions of others here in my personal opinion it all comes down to the fact that Google is actually a business and so has to make money. I appreciate that some of its dealings are a little 'shady' but show me a Global corporation that doesn’t come across this way in some elements of what it does. (Think Apple and its over priced media services.)
I hope you don’t mind my quoting you Valeria but I think you make a great point when you say
"Since the information that they can gather regarding myself

Explaining why I agree is also very good netiquette as it shows I have fully read and understood her point and lets her see my opinion. This would be even more important if I disagreed with her, as then she would not feel I was ignorant to her opinions. It also means she could see if I had perhaps misinterpreted her post, allowing her the chance to discuss things further. Again this is very important online as without the ability to speak face-to-face people could become confused easily.

To summaries the forum discussion:
It appears that although there are obviously many opinions most people are in some agreement as to the usefulness and day-to-day use of Google and its services.
Some very interesting points were raised including such things as Google’s positive influence on Education and the digitizing of print literature allowing many more people access.
There are those who see a darker side to its dominance and believe that perhaps without a true competitor it has the potential for content and control abuse and there are others who are worried about the amount of personal information Google takes and stores from everyone who uses their services.
The alternative opinion is equally strong in that they have no issues with the collection and monitoring of their data as they have little to hide.
It seems that there is a very definite split between people on most of the matters but the strongest divide is on the subject of privacy. Here, people
Today, Google, Inc. is worth more than General Motors, McDonald's and Disney combined, and the company continues to model the way in the global technology industry in which it competes. In fact, the company's name has become a verb and it is common practice for consumers to "Google" what they want to find online. To determine how Google, Inc. reached this dazzling level of performance in a relatively short period of time, this paper provides an analysis of the three external environments in which Google competes, the general environment, the industry environment and the competitor environment. Next, a discussion of two specific strategic issues as well as opportunities and threats that are facing Google, Inc. is followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion.
She makes sure to state all the pros that people forget to think about. Her high enthusiasm in this paper brings out the energy. She glorifies Google by giving examples of how Google has grown so much in the last few years and by backing up Google for having the annoying pop-up ads that everyone dislikes. This article is very effective for Google lovers in showing her true passion for what Google has brought to the table. Quint’s first statement is “What's not to love? Google knows everything.” Quint when posting a con about Google, always backs it up explaining how the con is not actually bad. For example she say that Google fails occasionally, then backs it up by saying that it is not enough to notice anything. Quint also goes on to discuss the annoying pop-up ads that everyone hates, but backs it up by saying that because of those ads we do not have to pay to be on

If like the vast majority of the public when searching for information it’s a reflexive action to just ‘Google’ it. With this being said, one generally doesn’t think of why they choose a search engine as long as they find what they are looking for. In recent events, it has been proposed that Google has misled users and monopolized the market. In June 2011, Google was placed under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission or FTC (Ammori and Pelican, 2012) in violation of Section 2 of The Sherman Act and Section 5 of The Federal Trade Act (Hazan, 2013). The FTC's investigation focused on allegations that Google has been abusing its dominance in Internet search. Google's competitor’s say the company has been headlining its own services on

Many people see the website as the end-all-be-all of information in this day and age, with information that cannot be verified through it almost immediately denounced as farcical. It is most certainly the word that best represents the last ten years, and the technological age we live in.
