Temptations: Casual Sexual Relationships

Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.

Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle in their book “Rereading America” feel that commencing college is a very disturbing experience. So many things we have to deal while starting college, but the major challenges are expanded difficulty levels and higher expectation which we are not familiar over the years of high school. In order to solve this issue, we have to remodel ourselves by taking up the challenge and rethink about our strength and flaws. To succeed in college we need to be mentally strong and dedicated towards our goal.

Through the course Strategies for College Success Cpd 150 taught by Michelle Garland one can learn many things. Despite this course possibly being more helpful to others then it was to me it did still teach me multiple things. At the beginning of the course I had been dealing with relationship drama and figuring out how online college works, now halfway through the course the drama has subsided and I understand how online college works.I have learned that one of the most important factors of college success is determination. It is a person's ability to keep trying as hard as they can no matter what comes their way. I say this because college can be difficult and even seem pointless at times, but those who are determined enough to keep going, to keep trying, will eventually succeed. Although I am stubborn I have issues staying determined, I do generally accomplish what I need to. Another skill going along with determination is the ability to seperate the various areas of ones life. For example the ability to have a fight with your best friend then go to class and learn just fine. Introduction Entering college can be an overwhelming experience. For some entering college, the greatest fear is fear of the unknown. For others, the thought of adjusting to a world where you are forced to be an adult can be a terrifying reality. During this time, students adjust to balancing the demands of life while striving to find their place in the world. With this comes the prospect of both gains and losses.

College is, and will always be, the best time of your life. It’s where you’ll most likely experience your first kiss, your first real heartache, or have sex for the first time. Yes, sex. For most, the college hookup culture can feel so complicated. For some, sex is just “having fun,” while others see it as a “showing of love.” Whatever the reasons, it’s undeniable that sex happens and sex could happen to you. As students and, simply, human beings with raging hormones, you’re naturally drawn to it.

Although college is challenging, I am to be successful by listening to advice from experts, by utilizing some effective study tools and by taking advantage of the benefits of a college education.

For teenagers throughout high school are pressured entirely too much to attend college. The stress only leaves to one option, rebellion. By pressuring teenagers, one may lead them to wrong path as the stress constantly being watched can cause such a young mind to explode like a bubble on a hot summer day. The School faculty and parents need to ease up on teenager’s goals in life. Although proper guidance is necessary, too much pressure to fit the adult’s vision to go to college can be too much for a teenager.

In addition to the social aspects, college teaches how to develop independent thinking. It also “exposes future citizens to material that enlightens and empowers them, whatever careers they end up choosing” (Menand, 3). However, most students today perceive college fundamentally as a party scene and various forms of entertainment instead of focusing on school work. They have forgotten about the academic freedom provided by receiving a proper college education.

There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.

For most students, college is a time of learning and growth, with the occasional partying, and mistakes made here and there. However, in recent years, life on college campuses has taken a drastic turn. In addition to worrying about passing classes, students are also worrying about what their fate will be if they make the wrong decision and turn down the wrong corner.

Through talking to multiple people who are in and have graduated from college, I have come to realize that the challenge that is presented academically is not one that cannot be overcome. While college is a place meant to challenge its attendees, it also provides the necessary tools for your success, if you are willing to look use them. What would make a student fail a class? There are many reason why someone could fail. Students from every college across the nation struggle with financial problems, transportation, picking the wrong major, etc. A major problem with many students, including myself, is poor time management. Not the most well-known reason to fail a class and is mostly thought of to be a small problem, but it causes smart people to slip up in college a lot. Either it be having a full plate of responsibilities and not having enough time for school or just pure procrastination, it can easily lead someone to "flunk" a college course. With most students it’s that they don't make good study habits in high school and it carries into college. Students don't bother with planning out their time and wait till the last minute to study for an exam or finish an essay. This may have worked sometimes in high school, but in college it is impossible to be successful with horrible habits with the workload students receive in college compared to high school. In "The Student Fear Factor" Melanie says "I never realized how fast college would be, comparing one year of high school with one semester of college. It's really fast pace." (Cox 24). The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside of class. If the students don’t this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college.

Academic success could never be fully measured by degrees alone, but it can include a person’s well-being as well as their mind and certain characteristics about a person that make them unique. This success can be achieved in different ways by these different people with different strengths, but there is the same ultimate goal in sight of each and every student enrolled in college at some point. However, this goal of being successful in not only school but in life, can sometimes turn out to be the opposite of how we plan. Of course, a student can achieve success by earning degrees and still fail in life. Academic success can also be a huge constituent to a students vocational calling in college as young students make a transition into adulthood.

Oftentimes, these people take too much responsibility from the student, particularly with things like essay writing. In terms of a solution, Oxford found that by avoiding a segmented approach at teaching proper study methods, better results were achieved. Essentially, college freshmen have a responsibility to use less of the assets that help in guidance for fixing study problems and simply take greater accountability for their actions. It is up to the student to find the best study solutions that work for them, rather than rely on the efforts of others.
