Assessments can help the learner to check weaknesses and strengths, to find new strategies to cope with difficulties, to provide new ideas, terms, solutions. In other hand assessments will demonstrate the efficacy of a determined teaching or learning style, a methodology used by an institution. In plain words, assessment can help the learner, the instructor and the institution to rethink and replanted the way the learning process has been developed. There is a huge difference between teaching and learning, between being seat in a class for hours but no material is retained, memorized, or applied after the class is over. An instructor can be assured that the lecture and test he just developed is amazing, but how where is the assurance about the material being transferred to the learner’s brain? That’s were assessment comes into play.
As noted by Carnegie Mellon (n.d), assessment is the process of obtain information about how students are learning and performing in order to improve the quality of education. As suggested by this institution the process of assessment can be divided into formative and summative and in general has the purpose of:
• Reflecting goals and values depending on the discipline.
• After assessment is concluded an instructor can redefine the way of teaching causing an increase in professional development.
• Institutions can reanalyze their curriculum
