The Controversy Of Rewarding Students

School is slave labor. Rather than enjoying or learning from their classes, students are forced to do useless work that will often be forgotten immediately. Grades are meant to show much a student understands a class, but instead are used as a scale of how well a student can regurgitate answers onto a test. Students only work for good grades because of the threat of being punished for failure, and the promise of reward for passing. The punishments in this case are detention or trouble from teachers, and the rewards are making the honor roll or getting bragging rights. The real reward for learning should be having new knowledge, but this is not taken into consideration. Jerry Farber, a professor at U.S.D, made the strong claim that grades are useless and harmful in his essay, “A Young Person’s Guide to the Grading System.” I wholeheartedly agree with Farber’s objection to our current grading system.

As in many cases, scholars have different insights about the issue of offering money for high grades of school-age children. There are always parents who go for this idea and motivate their children then . While another group of parents believe that it is not good and this action will make their children dependent on the reward. They claim that such approach will not help their children in future. My own stance delinatesdelineates with the first group. It could be a very good idea if parents make some motivations for their children as they are studying. Because in today's competitive world, education plays an important role in children's future. So parents must try their best to make their children study well.

When you were in school, you probably only remember bad thoughts about homework, stress, expectations, and the other annoying things in school, it was exhausting wasn’t it, but now students can get paid for good grades which is extraordinary! Teens these days have a lot of stress and problems at school every day with their peers, homework, parent expectations, and much more for different students, so when having the chance to get paid for good grades, students would take the opportunity, now let me tell you why. As we most of us know, there are stresses at school and it can be a nightmare at certain schools for certain students, to the point of students giving up on getting good grades, which means they don’t get the best opportunities in life so allowing students to get paid for high grades such as 90% would help with giving motivation to students’. In the process, there would also be an advantage for teachers and parents’, as they would find students working harder for revenue and not only that would be the best with it, the adults would also get to see students preparing for the costs in the world such as taxes which are coming soon in the students lives. Therefore, teens should be paid for good grades to help with motivation for grades and after that they would work harder to keep good grades and they would be able to use the money to help prepare them with the costs for the future.

Should students get paid for getting good grades? Yes because then students will try harder and do better in their classes. Test grades can improve also if rewarded. This also gives students convenience and something to work for. It can also give students a little look at what it’s like to have a job, because they would get paid for their hard work. It could make students fell good about themselves knowing that their hard work is being recognized. Students should know that their work is appreciated and noticed that would give the student convenience and appreciation.

In some schools across the country, straight-A students are being rewarded with money, ski passes and even cars! In our society people are rewarded for a job well done. Little kids get candy or stickers for doing what they’re told, adults get bonuses at work for doing their job well, but more and more students are getting rewards for good grades. Like at Bloom trail high school, a school that pays $50 per month to kids with good attendance and grades of all C’s or better. Is this doing more good or harm? There are pros and cons to this issue, but after analyzing the evidence, I think that it is a good idea to pay students for good grades. Even though I think this, I will show the cons first.
