Everyone is familiar with the theme of death. “According to experience, death is the stopping of a behavior, the stopping of expressive movements and of physiological movements and processes…It is a departure, a decease, a negativity to the unknown…a departure without a return”(Levinas). Regardless of belief, death is the one equalizer common to man. There are countless stories attempting to illustrate or explain both the feeling and the nature of death given many various outcomes, fortunate or unfortunate. One point remains consistent through all of them: death is inevitable and no one can avoid it. Despite the fact that no man has ever evaded death, several people throughout the ages have unsuccessfully endeavored to unearth the secret to immortality. In fact, the “legends connected with the discovery of North America” also include those of a French explorer named Ponce de León who searched in sixteenth century Florida for the “Fountain of Youth” whose waters supposedly supplied vitality and eternal life (Olschki). In the literary works of Godfather Death and Appointment in Samarra, both tell a morbid tale resulting in death. Viewing the stories from a Christian worldview, both operate on false premises of superstition, man’s nature to control his destiny, and fallible, finite thinking.
I have heard that Satan has come from heaven but was never really sure. So for my research paper I asked where Satan came from and how he was created. Answers for this question are found in many places in the Bible. Satan was one of the highest angels until was overcome with pride. He was thrown out, and hell was created. Hell was first for Satan but was then opened for everyone when Adam and Eve sinned.
The word euthanasia comes from the Greek words “eu” which means well and “thanatos” which is derived from death. Euthanasia literally means a “good death” (Davis F.A., 2013, p. 858-859). A good death is different to each person but usually constitutes having friends and family close, dying somewhere familiar, and dying in a comfortable manner with no pain. Voluntary stopping of eating and drinking is beneficial to the terminally ill patient in this way because it helps the family and the patient experience personal closure and it assists with a peaceful end to life. People also view it as an ethically appropriate decision (less controversial) to forgo an unwanted life prolonging measure than active euthanasia. The terminally ill using VSED are in control of their decision until the very end. They can choose at any time to opt out and begin eating/ drinking again. Patient’s die in a very dignified manner of their own accord instead of when their disease tells they should “go” which parallels their want for autonomy in making that choice. VSED is a more humane and dignified way to abide by the wishes of patients who wish to hasten their own death.
The Bible describes Satan / the devil very seriously, he does have a terrible force, in the Book of Revelation writes symbolism "beast out of the sea" and so forth that illustrates the power it has. However, the devil does not always come as a frightening figure, but it also comes with a compelling figure in persuading. Genesis clearly shows that the serpent came with a polite attitude to Eve - not in a way that is scary - and the two engage in a discussion.
After God created the Earth and mankind, all was right in the Holy kingdom. That is until, a friend, the bearer of light, the morning star fell in battle and ultimately in darkness. This fateful battle made true everything we know and live now. Milton and Dante play on this every concept in two very different ways, for Milton a cunning reflection of man and for Dante an animalisitic dunce. Milton and Dante use the Bible stories as a backdrop for their epic poems of love and of loss wherein a single unique character, a bearer of light is made to reverberate humanity and the supreme basic darkness that is the soul of man, one can note these key elements vis-a-vis his appearance, domain and the influence of Lucifer.
The cave was dark and covered in flames on the sides. The goddess told Raven to be a leader but was unsure on this. Before long they came to the demon. A small demon stood before them playing some game. Raven and his men was very confused and no one knew what challenge would await him.fused and didn't know the challenge they were about to face. One of the men stepped on a twig and it snapped alerting the demon. The demon looked at the weapons they were holding and got angry. The demon which once seen like a simple little thing changed into a frightening giant, demon with three head. The men were terrified and wanting to flee but they attacked. The demon was stronger and close to winning when in Raven’s head he heard the goddess say, “you will be strong and you must lead the men and be the one who leads them to victory.” Something came over him and he was stronger and started calling out demands. The men listened and they gained the advantage. And at the end, Raven took a sword and stroke him ending the fight. The voices of the goddess changed him into being a leader and it gave him the
Despite the all-powerfulness of God, Satan still addresses himself powerful and does not see his defeat. This can be seen where Satan declares, “…Divided empire with heaven’s king I hold, / By thee, and more than half perhaps will reign; / As man ere long, and this new world shall know.” (Paradise Lost 4: 111-113). This proves that Satan still feels ambition and power. He becomes aware of his wrongdoings, but continues to be determined with his rebellion against God. This shows that he an increase in awareness. Although Satan chooses to continue his rebellion and attack God’s creations on Earth - Adam and Eve - he does understand that it is immoral. It is here where Satan recognizes that his actions were indeed flawed. This tragic trait
Leaving his place in the immediate presence of God, Lucifer went forth to diffuse the spirit of discontent among the angels. Working with mysterious secrecy, and for a time concealing his real purpose under an appearance of reverence for God, he endeavored to excite dissatisfaction concerning the laws that governed heavenly beings, intimating that they imposed an unnecessary restraint. He claimed that in aspiring to greater power and honor he was not aiming at self-exaltation, but was seeking to secure liberty for all the inhabitants of heaven, that by this means they might attain to a higher state of existence.
No one could have possibly predicted that the New Jersey Devils would be tearing up the standings this season.
You sit in the bench of a courtroom. The purpose of the trial is not immediately clear, but one thing is certain: the prosecutor is angry. He shouts, shakes his fist, and threatens both the judge and the defense. Amid his tirade, the judge stands, points his finger at the attorney, and yells, “Away with him!” Without hesitation the bailiff violently grabs the attorney and whisks him away. Before the door shuts behind them, the entire audience stands and rejoices over the prosecutor’s removal. Even the judge begins to celebrate!
The way Dante describes Satan makes the theme even more noticeable, especially when the way he describes his version of Satan is contrasted with other images of Satan. The Satan of Milton's Paradise Lost, for example, still has some of the rule and beauty he had when he was the most dominant and attractive of all the angels. He was energetic, was able to make influential speeches in hell, and able to leave Hell to lure Eve. His speechmaking has even influenced some future readers that there is something honorable about his decision to rebel against God: "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven," he says (Lines 258-263
Many have a vague belief of God or of a higher power, but very few believe in Satan. He is often “ignored or down-played” in many liberal churches today (Willmington 410 12 Essential Doctrines). When thinking of the Devil, he is often perceived as a fugitive from a Halloween party rather than a real being (Sproul 139). God chose Lucifer to be the highest ranked angel, before he was overtaken with his own pride. Proverbs 16:18 states “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall (NKJV).” The Devil is a prime example of this verse because he let his pride overcome him which ultimately led to his destruction. Satan should not be compared to mythical creatures. He is a fallen angel with sophisticated powers to confuse, tempt, and accuse people. He is a “finite creature without divine powers and attributes” (Sproul 140). The existence of Satan is widespread throughout the Bible, and he is treated as a morally responsible person
The book of Ezekiel is one that is meant to bring strength to the people of God. The name Ezekiel itself, means “God strengthens”. Despite the fact that the book is meant to strengthen the people of his time and perhaps all of us nowadays, there are some issues that need to be interpreted and solved. Ezekiel 28:11-19 is one of those cases. It is important for us as students of the Bible to clearly identify the characters implied in this passage. The misunderstanding of this passage has cosmic implications and we will try to decipher it through thorough study.
While the sacred can be reengaged, The Satanic Verses and Hey Nostradamus! depict the secular as people become isolated from belief. By exposing hypocrisy and challenging what is deemed sacred, The Satanic Verses and Hey Nostradamus! uncover the darkness within religion, illustrating possible impurity in religious authority and legitimacy. Peter Mullen points out that religious texts have ‘a definitive authority for the communities which accept and uphold them’. Such authority is engaged with and questioned, allowing dissent from the imposed sacred. In The Satanic Verses, the sacred is made up, religion and the name of God constructed to make things legitimate or important. God becomes no more than a construction because of human greed, full of flaws and no longer idealistic. As Gibreel makes his name by playing Ganest and Hanuman, the description ‘For many of his fans, the boundary separating the performer and his roles had longago ceased to exist’(17) provides evidence as to how easily one may build an identity and allow legitimacy to it. Gibreel is made sacred, suddenly God’s ‘most celebrated incarnation’(29) though he is merely portraying religious characters in movies. He becomes God, and as he falls ill, it is as if God himself has fallen. Undermining the sense of a fixed divine figure, people are made sacred, ideas and texts are portrayed likewise, composed merely by humans. While writing for Mahound the prophet, Salman is confused by ‘how useful and well timed the
And now he begins to run Kicking the dark earth harder Then he dashes, dashes like mad, like mad Howling, shouting, screaming, and roaring Then with a most violent kick He shakes off the earth's pull Softly lifting himself into the air Soaring higher and higher and higher still Piercing the sea of clouds Up into the chandelier of stars
