The studies of Earth have shown that in the last hundred years, the temperature has gone up one degree Fahrenheit. Even just one degree can make a big difference to the Earth’s natural form. The warming of the Earth has caused the snow and ice to melt much faster and the ocean levels to rise. In the next hundred years the effects will be more severe.

How will our recent increases in oil and natural gas production and exportation (this of course, means a conscious commitment to increased C02 emissions) affect the likelihood of global climate change. The effects of climate change have become more apparent than ever within the last 100 years. Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in 30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is population change, the ever increasing demand for natural resources to sustain economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a rate never recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to individual and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback. There will always be disputants for everything, but the only questions are what will be the overall effects on the planet, how these effects will impact the ability of man and all life on the planet to survive, and the speed at which these changes will occur. It is difficult to achieve action on any problem that is perceived as an issue in the future because our political systems are set-up to put off confronting difficult issues. There have been many opinions from an abundance of points of view on the subject. Scientists, politicians, and environmentalists have all weighed in on the debate, and each of them is passionate about their beliefs. Coal, for example, was the first fossil fuel to become the main energy source in the United States to replace the low-energy firewood during the second half of the nineteenth century. As countries around the world shifted from pre-industrial to transitional to post-industrial phases, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels increased by an unthinkable amount. Greenhouse gases negatively impact the world environment because it can cause smog pollution, acid deposition, water contamination, habitat destruction, and the loss of biodiversity. As of today, fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas continue to negatively impact the world environment and its ecosystems.
