Leadership Summary Paper Lead, follow, or get out of the way. Those are words my father used to tell my sister and me as we were growing up. Leaders will pave the way for success for others and foster relationships along the journey. The purpose of this paper is detail the five practices of extraordinary leaders, review my leadership philosophy, assess my leadership abilities while incorporating key learnings and application from previous modules within the Applied Organizational Leadership program.
Five Practices to Extraordinary Leaders Being an extraordinary leader is about pulling together a variety of skills and behaviors and knowing how and when to apply them in the correct situation. The five practices to being an exceptional leader include Modeling the Way, Inspiring a Shared Vision, Challenging the Process, Enabling Others to Act, and Encouraging the Heart. The behaviors demonstrated within these practices are what set apart a great leader from an exceptional leader.
Model the Way The behavior exhibited by an individual will always speak volumes to one’s character and true colors. This alone will earn the respect of others regardless of the title they hold. Being a leader is setting a solid example of what is expected (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). One example of someone who demonstrates these behaviors is Liz White at Teva Pharmaceuticals.
