Report #1
1. Do you feel that the Bearington plant has the right equipment and technology to do the job? Why?
I feel that the Bearington plant’s source of problems and concerns are emerging from a deteriorating equipment, poor management system, and staff that aren’t properly fit for this type of job. In chapter one, as Alex Rogo starts walking through the plant he observes the plant’s equipment was making inexplicable noises. There were outdated lights, computer systems, and an intercom system that could barely be heard over all the sound of the machines. On the other hand, the author was describing the employees as raggedy looking and some were over weight. The master machinist that was in charge of the

Alex comes up with the consensus that the “Goal” of his business and many others is to increase net profit while simultaneously increasing return on investment and their cash flow at the plant. This basically means to make money. These three measurements can be achieved by looking closer into his second set of measurements. Alex specifically must find a way to increase throughput while at the same time decreasing it inventory and operational expenses. All three of these measurements must be cautiously monitored since they all rely on each other to be obtained in balance. Factors that cause throughput, inventory, and operational expenses to become unbalanced are excess manpower and balance capacity of the demand of resources in the market.
5. What are those three questions that Jonah asked Alex about the productivity of the robots?
Jonah asks Alex if the robots have increased the amount of products shipped per day. Secondly, he asks if the robots have reduced the plants people expense. Finally, Jonah asks if the robots have decreased the amount of inventory that the plant has.
6. Using the analogy between the hiking and a manufacturing operation, explain the phenomena of “dependent events” and “statistical fluctuations”. Explain what a “balanced plant” is and explain why it would not work in the situation of boy scout hiking.
As Alex was hiking in the woods he starts
The second time Alex spoke to Jonah was after finding his contact information in his old address book. During this conversation, Alex realizes that accustomed profitability measures cannot be applied to the plant he is managing and he must follow measures that better relate to his individual plant. Jonah teaches Alex three
It is stressed in the Goal that there is a massive difference between throughput and efficiency. The novel makes the case that having an efficient operation does not equate to profitability. What does equate to profitability is to increase the throughput of any given operations system. Jonah tells Alex, “Throughput, is the rate in which the system generates money through sales.” (Goldratt, E.M. (2014), The Goal, pg. 60). Jonah goes on to explain to Alex that inventory is all the money that was invested in purchasing things that the system intends to sell. (Id). Furthermore, operational expenses are those costs that are required to turn inventory into throughput. (Id, at pg. 61). The definitions of these three measurements are not standard definitions for an MBA student. It is an interesting perspective on how to view operations.
Throughout the entirety of the book, The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement, author Eliyahu M. Goldratt focuses on demonstrating the importance of the Theory of Constraints and what corporations should do in order to increase profits. A major term used throughout the novel is “throughput,” which according to the text, is “the rate at which the system generates money through sales” (Goldratt 60). Once a bottleneck machine in a production process is identified, there are multiple ways to increase throughput without expanding the physical capacity of the machine.
Alex blew out a relieved breath, packed up the set, and opened the door. Once inside, she pulled out her cell phone. She called her best friend, who was waiting outside, acting as a lookout. “Paige, are you there? I made it into the office.” She kept her voice low, barely above a
Then she was asking for things such as his English assessment because there is a formal testing of his English which needed to get done and his English was strong, but he was going to go to ESL school for three more months, from September to December to sort of bring it up because out of a scale of one to eight his English was a six or seven and maybe even his speaking was six but his writing was five or something so, Amy suggested that he sort of needed to bring those up as much as he could.
Does Joe and his team feel they have a problem when it comes to Capacity Planning? If so what is their problem? Has it been quantified? I feel as if I don’t have any context around their pain points.
As a co-planner and – facilitator of two settlement programs, I gained immense experience with program planning and implementation. To plan culturally sensitive activities relevant to the program goals, and clients’ needs and interests, I referred back to the program evaluation findings from previous terms and informal conversations with program participants and volunteers. My day-to-day planning tasks included researching and contacting local organizations and cultural groups, developing activities to support guest lectures, creating session schedules, making lists of supplies and materials needed for each session, and purchasing supplies and materials within the weekly budget. In the process of achieving this goal, I applied a lot of skills/knowledge from Public Health and Social Policy (PHSP) courses. However, I
First of all, in order to achieve short term goals for career enhancement as well as role preparation the following criteria must be met so that my goals can be as attainable as possible in a realistic and productive fashion. Moreover, in order to properly teach high school students and or future nurses, a well-organized focus of life-long learning initiatives, personal goals, educational goals, along with the integration of the teaching-learning process need to be implemented in my PDP plan (Billing & Halstead, 2016). MOOPIL (Massive Open Online Professional Individual Learning), educators employed with SAISD have the opportunity to receive a free 20 hour online course at A&M University. This course is an online virtual professional development course, centered on providing the educator insights towards the following: effective instructional approaches, comprehensive pedagogy, integrating standard-aligned course work, empowering the change agent, and instructional leadership (A&M, n.d.).

Psychology is the study of the human mind including the behaviors, emotions and thoughts by an individual/group. This major seemed to fit my best interest because I enjoy communicating with people and getting to know who they really are. The constant curiosity I have for knowing why we behave, feel or think the way we do intrigues me. Not only do I wish to receive a wonderful job pursuing what I love, but I also wish to reach a few goals that seem beneficial for me in the long run. Although my goals seem very ambiguous, there are other objectives that automatically come with my current major.
On the goals you set for yourself for this semester, how have you done? Have you improved in some, stayed the same in others? Have you actually done better than you thought was possible? Is there a particular goal you found more challenging to accomplish? What activities in class helped you achieve the goals you set for yourself?
During week #4, I can say that I’m proud of seeing some progress in my short goal and long term goal. My first short term goal is to lose 10 lbs. by April 10, which I have already lost 3 lbs. in total up to this date. I’m very proud of myself and I can say that being constant with my exercise has to help me lose that weight. I can’t say that my diet has helped because I have been eating junk food during the week. But in the other hand, my diet in improve in the part of eating more fruit and vegetables in every meal. I also learned, that exercising bust your energy and stress level go down. This was something that I didn’t believe was true before trying this out, there’s no reason I didn’t. My support system has really helped with motivating
Alex took a decision to stay in his position for the next three months and started looking for Jonah. Alex got Jonah’s phone number from his friend who knows about Jonah. Alex talked with Jonah eventually. The conversation with Jonah helped Alex to define the main goal of the company, Making Money, and put some measurements to evaluate his progress toward the goal. The three measurements are: throughput, inventory and operational expenses. Also, Jonah has an opinion about the robots in the plant. He thought that robots do not increase
There are various problems which are seen in the plant according to Bowman’s and Richardson’s views. One of the major problems regards safety. Employees are seen to be working in unsafe working environments where they are exposed to injury. A while back, one employee was fatally injured when working and this led to several employees quitting work in frustration. This is a problem which Bowman and Richardson aim at solving. Another problem involved employee motivation.
7. Edmund Enterprises recently made a large investment to upgrade its technology. While these improvements won’t have much of an effect on performance in the short run, they are expected to reduce future
