The Impact Of Technology On Our Lives

Technology is defined as machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Its original use was meant solely for the service of humans, however overtime it has evolved into something much different. What was originally meant to be an assisting piece of machinery has changed almost every aspect of our culture. The way we think, communicate, lie, and even love has been impacted by the use of technology, and all of this is has made for interesting pieces of literature. In pieces such as Her and I, Robot, we see the evolution of robots and artificial intelligence into a more empathetic and humanlike creatures. This gradual change in our views of robots overtime speaks volumes to the evolution of technology. Technology in literature has become a reflection of human beings themselves, mirroring the very qualities of ourselves that make us human. By looking at the personality that technology takes on in literature, we can greater understand the aspects of ourselves that truly make us human.

Technology has had a major impact on our lives, especially in the last few years. Being able to adapt to new things has definitely been a main part of these few years. There has been new technology coming into the classrooms to help teach the students. We are now beginning to rely on the advancements in technology in order to help teach our students. Smart boards are being used in teaching; ipads are another major technology being used in classrooms to teach students. We are always developing new and improved technology in order to thrive in our environment. Even our smartphones are always being improved to help better our lives, but the question is, how far should we go? Technology in the classroom is beneficial because of it’s educational purposes, but outside of the classroom can be addictive and unhealthy to people’s everyday lives.

During the 1800’s, when people couldn’t find the answer to a question, they would spend days and weeks trying to find the answer. Now-a-days, whenever we need to find an answer, we can just go on the internet and look it up; thanks to the advancements in technology. Technology is merely a tool and what you get out of this tool is determined by how you use it. It was assembled to make any given activity easier or more effective. Just as we control the tools we use for a garden or the tools used to build a house, technology is also controlled by us. Authors Nicholas Carr, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, Jonathan Franzen, “Liking is for Cowards”, and Peggy Orenstein, “ The Way We Live Now” all demonstrate how we live in a world where the internet and social media plays an important role in our society solely because we allow it to. Some will argue that technology has impacted our lives negatively, yet fail to acknowledge how it also impacted us positively as well.

Technology has become an essential part of life in the last few decades, and it is often needed for work, school, and accessing information. With the rising need for technology, people have started to wonder whether it is improving or harming their quality of life. The rise of technology is improving people's lives, as it improves relationships between friends and family, can increase free time, and access to technology makes timing more efficient.

This day and age technology can be seen everywhere. From home to work and even schools more and more people are beginning to use technology. There are more people that are buying smartphones, tablets and laptops which allow them to day many things throughout their day. Tablets especially have been becoming more and more popular since they are very compact, lightweight, and have many different uses. We are able to see how much technology has impacted everyone 's day to day life. There are elders, parents, teens, and even toddlers that are using technology everyday and each one for a different reason. With the number of technology users increasing more schools are starting to integrate tablets into their classrooms. There are many people that think that having technology in schools won 't be very useful in helping students learn, however there are many people that do think that using technology and tablets will be beneficial in helping students learn. Textbooks have been used in schools for a very long time now and are still being used to this day. Many people against tablets think that they will be a distraction to the students learning or even too expensive for the schools to be able to transition over to tablets. Technology will most likely be entering the classroom since more people are using it these days. The society in which a person is born in is wildly different than the one they live in now. This raises the question if society is improving. Some think it does not improve, it only shifts. “Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not” (Emerson 3). Technology advances so often that it becomes something that people depend on. Which could be the one of the reasons why people have become lazier. Not only that, but the internet exploits people’s private information, and and divides people with unpleasant comments. Technology should be used to help solve problems, but instead it has made people more dependable, lazy, and unpleasant.

Today, electronics have become important in our daily life. Even Though modern electronics help make our lives simpler, but it can also be utilized negatively. Smartphones are no longer used only for texting and calling. They are high-tech devices that can access the internet, emails, and social media. However, arguments on whether these functions are necessary for students in high school are beginning to surface. Despite the fact that phones can be utilized educationally and serve as a learning too, this same technology can also be utilized negatively at the wrong time. In agreement with many teachers, “a fair amount of teachers say cell phones have officially replaced chewing gum as the new classroom menace. Constant ringing, chirping, buzzing and texting are interfering with lessons and student learning, and some students are storing notes on their cell phones to cheat on tests”(Hart). In order for kids to learn in a fair and healthy setting, smart phones should not be allowed in school environment because of the potential for distractions and cheatings; furthermore, it can also cause degeneration of social skills.

I have learned a lot in this class during our discussions. I have started to see that some people don’t think the exact same way that I do. Also, I have learned to look at situations in different ways. The first topic that stuck out to me was the one about technology in our everyday lives. I picked this one because not only does technology have a huge impact on me, but it also has a huge impact on the rest of the world. The second topic that interested me was the one about biotechnology and GMOs. I picked this one because I grew up on a farm and this is one of the biggest controversial issues that Agriculture is facing today. The last topic that I found interesting was the breakthroughs in the medical field. I picked this topic because medicine and technology advancements also has a huge impact on our everyday lives.

Technological devices has greatly influenced the way people live in society. Although many will use modern technology for many of its achievements and advancements, what many don't realize is that it has affected and continues to affect society in a negative way. Today more people are working longer hours and utilizing more technology in their everyday life. As a result of these longer hours and increased use of technology, more energy is being consumed which negatively impacts the environment. Much of the technology is created to make daily task more efficient. The internet for instance, paying bills online, reading the daily news and shopping all without leaving home. Technology is amazing; however, the improvements are getting to a point where it’s helping us so much it’s actually hurting us, meaning the more technology does for us, the less we do.The rise of technologies such as computers and video games has made it easy for kids to be entertained without ever leaving the comfort of their easy chair which has contributed to the steady decline in physical activity among the youth. The relationship between technology, stress and depression has a lot to do with the overuse of technology in our society, particularly among young people. But the reliance of technological devices is staggering.

From pagers, flip phones, house phones, cassette players, and develop film to voice mails, iPhones, dvd’s, digital cameras and printers are just a few of the many products that over time innovative individuals have evolved and ameliorated. In 2002, the drastic change of technology began to expand and to become more advanced. It was said that the advancements to technology was making everyday life effortless for individuals from communication to entertainment. Without the aid of technology, life would be more laborious because we have become dependent on technology to assist us with various tasks. Technology occurred before the human kind and it has improved people’s lives positively and negatively. The influence of technology is really great that it has absolutely changed our lifestyle. Computers, the Internet, Gadgets all these things have transformed our working system completely and our productivity has increased unbelievably. As everyone knows with every positive that have to be a negative, technology is really great, but it also has a huge affected every part of family life. We are spending more time indoors than we are outside. The time we spent on the computer, watching TV, and other electronics drive is about 8 hours a day. During this time, we are usually spent alone and not with the rest of the family. With all the electronics drive, we currently have, we don 't need to get out of the house anymore, you can do everything from the luxury of your home. Almost everything revolves around technology now. Don’t get me wrong, I love computer and all the technology we have now, with every new invention coming out I have them all, Apple Watch, iPhone7 Plus, iPad, new Apple TV, and new headphone, most of my product is around Apple because I love the company they produce a good product, good design, and it last for a long time. On June 29, 2007, about 9 years ago, when the first generation of the iPhone came out, people will wait outside the stores to buy it.
