Many civilians end up thanking veterans for their service without knowing how their lives actually differ. Military life can offer many differences that civilian life cannot. Having lived both lives, I have an inside perspective on the differences between the two. These differences can include laws, regulations, and the different types of punishment one may receive. Although, everything between the two may seem different, there is also a similarity. That similarity, is encountering the same personality types in the military as one would as a civilian. The last, the biggest difference between military and civilian life is the benefits. Although the benefits may not seem like much, they are the key reason people switch from civilian to military life.
During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech
An effective speaker carefully considers the audience when preparing a speech. Ask yourself these questions:
Someone once said that the willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude. It is nice to know that serving in the military comes with many benefits that service members can use in their everyday lives However, there is what many people consider drawbacks, as many people feel that the restrictions and limitations to these benefits make them almost impossible to enjoy. Despite its drawbacks, serving in the military comes with great benefits, including medical, educational benefits and more.
Claudia Stepanovich gave me a message through power point that I completely agree with and that is that public speaking is not a skill you are born with; it is something that you have to learn and get better at. This message spoke to me, because I am extremely nervous about public speaking and I always avoid it when I can; when I can’t avoid it I always get nervous and start to stutter and forget information.
“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, and beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. (Tecumseh, 1813).
Having served in the military for over twenty years had giving me many competencies that I am able to use in everyday business. The military gave me the work ethics, teach me how to be responsibility and the sustainability to deal with problems. I believe that I measure up at a high level by comparing the competencies in the book and my own skills. The competencies which are a collection of knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow employees to be successful at numerous of comparable tasks are also used to distinguish between high and low performer’s employees. If a manager is not responsible the subordinates will not listen at the established company rules. The manager needs to lead by example, if he or she wants to get his employees respect.
The way a speaker communicates to his audience is everything to becoming a great speaker. If you cannot portray your message in a way that makes sense to people, then you have failed at communication. Throughout history, influential speakers have used different methods of speaking to gather their audience on board with them. The audience has to remain interested at all times to fully grasp what you are trying to say or do. Once you lose the audience then you are wasting time standing in front of them speaking. Two major individuals in our world’s history grasped the concept of speaking among a large audience very well. John F. Kennedy (JFK), who became the 35th president of the United States, did not become president just by standing in front of a crowd, he used his abilities to speak to influence the people to vote for him. Adolf Hitler, who became well-known for reasons very frowned upon, won his audience over by the way he spoke to them. Although they have two different styles of speaking, the two became great leaders. Although Adolf Hitler left behind an evil legacy, I still believe he was a better speaker than JFK.
Thanks for your response. Being in the military I have had the opportunity to be stationed in some pretty remote areas one of which was Okinawa, Japan. Fun fact Okinawans are not Japanese but belong to the group of people known as Ryukyuan or Lewchewan people are the indigenous peoples of the Ryukyu Islands between the islands of Kyushu and Taiwan which includes Okinawa. Well getting back on subject Marines are stationed on Okinawa as well as the Air-force, Army and Navy. Marines making one of the bigger military services on the island they conduct a lot of training especially when it deals with firing weapons. There are strict guidelines they have to follow when conducting those types of training. So what might be good in the United
¨To serve in the modern military… is to treat the necessary service and sacrifice of war with sacred honor¨ (¨J.D Vance¨). This quote was said by J.D Vance while talking about the necessary needs for the military. Members of the U.S military is to maintain the U.S national defense. Although some service members work in occupations specific to the military, such as a fighter pilot, infantry men. Many work in occupations that also exists in civilian workplace such as nurses, doctors, and lawyers (¨bureau of labor statistics¨). The united states military would be a great opportunity because it allows people to work outdoors, it's also great physical labor, and creates fantastic employment opportunities.
Active duty personnel are full-time employees of the United States Department of Defense. These troops are prepared to deploy at any time. NG/R personnel are not full-time although they can also be deployed at any time. Part-time NG/R personnel return to their unit’s base for training one weekend a month, two weeks a year. Each branch of the military has a Reserve component under its command. The National Guard (NG) is organized and controlled by each state. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (2017), NG units can be activated, federalized and deployed in times of war. A traditional role for the NG has been to respond to statewide emergencies such as natural disasters. On deployments, NG members may serve in combat roles but they
Lastly, on July 17th, I posted a photo album containing pictures of SSG Herring at several locations throughout Europe and the United States. Individuals in Generation Y/the Millennial generation are generally described as being “particularly attuned to the world around them” and wish to be able to travel to overseas locations (Weiss, 2014, p. 429). As most of SSG Herring’s target demographic falls into this generational profile, this album is meant to demonstrate one of the many perks of military service: the ability to travel and explore the world. Additionally, these images are intended to make potential recruits imagine the lifestyle that Army service can provide, to make them see beyond their preconceived notions about what being a
Serving in the Military for 17 years, it has taught me many skills to be successful in life and when attending online schools or traditional learning in classroom environments. Of those skills are leadership, organization, reasoning, problem solving, oral communications, planning, and adaptive skills. Some of these skills I try to use during school such as organization, planning, and being adaptive. These skills are what I would say that I bring to the program and that they will continue to help me throughout my academic journey. Being able to be organized is key to ensuring that our coursework flows smoothly along with our everyday life styles. If we are unorganized then it can become very chaotic and unproductive to completing school work
The military has so many benefits. It is a great place to go when you do not know what to
Furthermore, the speaker is visually boring because of they are lack of confidence and fear of public speaking. Effective speakers use visual language to engage the audience. Your hand gestures, facial expression, posture, movement and eye contact are critical components of your visual language. When you take the stage, always maintain eye contact with the audience, not with the screen behind you. Make sure you are appropriately and professionally dressed for the occasion. Make sure your appearance is neat and clean. You don’t need to have a 1000 dollar suit but you need to be dressed appropriately. You don’t want the audience to remember you because your slip was showing or because your shirt was wrinkled. Don’t wear anything that is distracting and takes away from your message. For example, 20 bangle bracelets that make noise every time you gesture is not a great idea. Practice your hand gestures and body movement when you rehearse your speech. Your hand gestures should complement your language, not
