Leadership Effective Tools and Qualities To be an effective leader, means to impact and organized group with their activities of goal setting and reaching success or by giving influence in a situation to accomplish a single goal or multiple goals. To be able visualize the bigger picture and being able to produce a plan of action and reach a goal, is the visionary mission (Liu, 2010). A key component to being effective as a leader is to can make decisive decision making skills Liu, 2010). A way to build relationships or enhance them is to give mutual rewards (Liu, 2010). Effective communication whether that be verbal, non-verbal, or even writing is a quality that makes a better leader (Liu, 2010). The ability to be able to convince people to do what you want is to have the power of influence (Liu, 2010). There are values that makes a person who they are, just as there are qualities that makes an effective leader such as, visionary mission, decisive decision making, mutual rewards, effective communication, and power of influence. Visionary Mission To become visionary with the mission as a leader, is a way leaders can bring new plans or ideas that inspire various types of new solutions (Liu, 2010). It is imperative that leaders can communicate the mission so that subordinates understand its significance (Duckworth, 2015). Leaders must understand the intent of the mission and all it entails such as, objectives, strategies, goals and timelines (Duckworth, 2015). Workers must
An effective leader is one who inspires many to not only accept change but to cause change themselves, furthermore, though leaders can be effective it doesn’t always mean they are responsible with their power.
Being a significant leader is additional than just leading a group. An effective leader is brave, honest, smart, wise, mature, and caring. A worthy leader must step forward when guidance is needed. They must think logically and perform what’s best for them and their people. Leaders should be open minded to fresh ideas. Superiors also need to listen to their people and understand the issues that need to be addressed.
“Leadership is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation in order to accomplish the mission and improve the organization” (FM 6-22). There are a few factors that contribute to being an effective leader. These factors include: Decision making, cultural awareness, your leadership style, and obtaining leadership characteristics, which include; attributes and competencies.
After observing the three video clips what appealed to one’s interest was the importance of an effective leader. Leadership is defined as the ability to direct individuals from an organization to achieve a common goal. A leader does not use the power of their title, or generate more followers to the group. An effective leader empowers others, in addition to teaching and showing the way to a business objective.
To be an effective leader I agree that one must be skillful and understands what the organizational mission is. When working in a complex environment, one will have to navigate, negotiate, and learn how to work in a matrix environment. Communication is key to ensure that all understand what the mission, goals, and values of an organization are. Some may get distracted because of a shift in priorities, but a leader must be able to accomplish tasks and do it effectively and efficiently.
There are a number of traits necessary for being an effective leader. A good leader must be flexible and work well with others even if they do not agree with them. Also, leaders need to know how to convince people to work with each other. Negotiation is another key attribute of a good leader. A leader should also be able to come to a reasonable agreement that is mutually beneficial to all the parties.
To be an effective leader, it is essential to have great leadership traits. On the other hand, nobody is perfect so you may have some leadership qualities that could use some improvement. A good leader should have traits to lead in all different situations. I personally have many leadership traits that are transferable and can be used in many different situations. I also have skills that can be worked on to improve. I will work towards this to make myself a better and more effective leader.

Successful leadership can be stripped down to a few simple, yet effective, roles that can make or break any supervisor or organization; and that is communication and teamwork. These activities seem so menial but even the most educated or experienced could lack the ability to use these correctly. In any field of work, lack of communication could be detrimental to the success you are striving for. For healthcare, you have to think about the patient as well. Lack of communicating from provider to patient or between the multidisciplinary team could bring harm the patients well being. As was stated in our literature “ [communication] is a common personal barrier in healthcare organizations and has the tendency to either evaluate the sender of the message as not important or down played” The ability to clearly communicate valid information to your team is needed for an organization to function. "Without teamwork, communication and sharing of information is limited, which leads to generally poor outcomes.” (Preston). The supervisor has many other roles such as organizing, staffing, planning, answer and ask questions, to ward off resistance, and ultimately to achieve the institution 's goals. However, none of which could not run effectively without clear communication, teamwork and a positive response from their staff. The perspective the staff takes on how they feel the supervisor comes off is going to aide in the effectiveness of the information is received.
When I first found out that the interview person was going to be a principal and former teacher, I was intrigued because my father is a middle school teacher. It was interesting to hear the view point of a current principal compared to what I hear from my dad. For example, I hear my dad talk about the state standards and tests that he is judged off of, and Ms. Walls mentioned this during the discussion. I think that being successful at any leadership position, in this case a teacher, a person needs to be passionate and creative. Therefore, it was disheartening to hear about the sanctions that have been placed on schools today that have limited the flexibility of the teachers. There are multiple ways to describe the role of successful leaders and effective leadership, which are dependent upon the experts view and method of leadership. The foundation of this research focuses on leaders with proven success in their fields, who epitomize effective leadership. In interviewing 125 diverse leaders, Bill George (2015) inferred that “leadership emerges through your life story” (p. 20). Catmull (2014) asserts that great leaders help creative people achieve excellence. Northhouse (2016) contends that leadership is the ability to influence others to accomplish a shared goal. He goes on to explain, effective leadership incorporates skills, traits, actions and awareness of strengths and weakness, qualities that improve and develop with time. I will draw on significant characteristics and endeavor to incorporate elements of effective leadership into the area of higher education to cultivate change and innovation.
Implementing effective leadership that is inspiring and motivating can be a difficult task. The task of leadership and its effectiveness can be challenged when an organization experiences change and is downsizing. On the one hand, leadership must contend with turnovers and implementing the downsizing process. On the other hand, it must also lead and manage the entire organization that remains intact while these changes occur. Navalino, Nimran, Astuti, & Hamid (2014) describe downsizing as, “Essentially a series of managerial actions taken by a company that aims to adjusts with changes in the environment, overcoming the difficulties of management, increase productivity and competitiveness (as cited in Tsai & Yen, 2008).

As the old saying goes, “great leaders are born, not made.” In many ways, the role of a good leader is essential. Yet, realizing exactly how to become a real leader is inside every person. It does not matter if you are leading several groups, a whole business or simply one person. Exploring this from a managerial viewpoint it is obvious that companies are becoming more and more dependent upon technology than in the past. Also, because of the gradual rise in consumer demand for around the clock customer service, this is not likely to change. Technology has played a big role in guaranteeing that a customer’s needs are met at all times. It is also crucial that businesses make sure that the employee’s needs are not neglected and that they do not feel replaced because of the increasing reliance on technology. In spite of everything, a company cannot function without its employees. Therefore, the employees should be treated as human beings and not as a piece of equipment.
