Reminiscing the anecdote of my high school life had shaped me to be a responsible person. Missing a place for further education after completing grade 10 was a complete failure. I had to go back to the village and live as a villager with norm subsistence lifestyle. My family’s perception towards me is for me to pass grade 6 exam to the high school (8 – 10), and then to national high school and eventually to college or university. When I do this, I will promote my family’s name as well as my clan’s name.
My family envisaged me on this path when I started school. Their expectation is that after completing all my studies, I will eventually find a job in an urban place (town or city) and then provide for their needs. I will then pay for my siblings’ schools fees, my cousin’s school fees and give money to them.
I was obligated culturally to support my family and the clan which is compulsory in order to be given a share of wealth in the clan. I need to provide for all these obligations so that I will have a land with the clan’s consent. I was the eldest in the family and automatically qualify me to be the leader in the family. This was the tradition for first born male to take charge of family’s responsibilities.
The leadership expectation towards me was high (Pavlovich, 2017). I was to be responsible in my family affairs when I grow up.
This was a big challenge when the expectation was not met as a school dropout. Competing for space in tertiary education and eventually finding
“Life After High School” by Joyce Carol Oates is a brilliant demonstration of the tragedy that follows when individuals refuse to be true to themselves. The protagonist, Sunny Burhman, must reconcile her high status and the ensuing idolization of her character with the pursuit of her hand in marriage by the antagonist, Zachary Graff, whom she does not love. As Zachary presents her with a ring, she finally realizes that she no longer can lead him on; she rejects him. He commits suicide as a result, and Sunny assumes she was the solo motive for his actions, though it is later revealed she was not. Consequently, she draws upon the reader’s pity by renouncing her cheery demeanor and devoting her life to accomplishments rather than the pursuit of
Question 1: What key activities have you been involved in at school, in the GEAR UP program, and/or in your community? Also, describe your most significant scholastic achievement or other honor/awards to date.
Entering into college, I wanted to do public health, but I wanted to be a doctor to please my father and to satisfy his hunger to have a doctor in his family. My father made sure his children went to college, and if they didn’t, it was clear they couldn’t stay in his house anymore. My parents struggled to support all of my siblings and supply each of us with everything we needed. I never realized the struggle until I got older and understood the value of money and time. My parents never wanted my brothers and I to work while we were in school, they wanted us to focus on our grades and activities that would help us get into college. Overall, the support from my family and seeing how hard my
Graduating from high school is a milestone that forces one to make my future come true. I plan on going into the Military after high school because right after high school I don’t see myself going to college. I just need a break from it because I do not like doing homework at all. Also, school is getting boring because we don’t learn anything new, we mostly just learn the same things over again. While others may plan to go to college, after high school I intend to go to the Navy because I don’t see myself going to college right after high school. I plan to get a Bachelor Degree in something. So that is why I am going to the military to know what I will be doing. If I just go to college straight after high school I will not know what I will be doing there. Going to the military first is a great idea for me instead of going to college first. I just need a break from school and all of the paperwork. My goal is to learn what career I will be making my six years being in the military through work experience.

I remember being 6 years old & playing in the grass barefoot and without a care in the world & thinking I didn't have a care in the world. I didn't have to worry about what I wanted to be, how I was gunna make money, or growing up. I was stuck in that moment & only thinking about how happy swinging on the swing made me. I turn around & open my eyes & you're graduating high school tomorrow to walk down that stage & get your diploma. I want to congratulate you sissy, on your graduation from high school. This is an important and necessary step in your growth and development, and I am very proud that you have taken it successfully. You may or may not have given much thought about what these next few years are going to look like. There are many decisions that you are going to make that will impact the rest of your life. Some decisions you will know, even as you are making them, are life-changing decisions, which I know you will make those decisions wisely & think of yourself in those decisions. If I could give you 3 key words of advice it would be this:
The story of each individual varies based on the footsteps they follow and path they choose. For most, the path you have followed until adulthood has been set for you by your family. In my case I saw the paths my family members chose and how it lead to hardship and constant struggling. Raised by a single mother of two I realized as I got older how difficult it was to pay the bills and how hard she worked to provide. I was always pushed in my education and taught that it was to better myself, so I wouldn’t continue the cycle of finding how hard life is without a degree. My mother was the most important figure in my life and I thought of her as my role model, after she was gone I began to focus on my education to plan for a better future.
To all the kids about to be freshmen, and have been told high school is either going to be a breeze or a struggle, I can assure you it's much easier the more effort you put in. While it may not be a walk in the park, it is definitely not a sprint. Your attitude is going to be a major part in your experiences. The more effort that you put into it, the easier it will be to make it through high school. Coming to school energized each and every day with the attitude that you are determined to learn at least one new thing each day will make it a more positive and enlightening experience. School is a free education that most people are not able to experience. Why not make the most of it? Learn what you can while you're there. Be proactive in your
In a way High School affects everyone, but how much it affects them may be different depending on the person.
When thinking about my senior year of high school I start to think about a tradition that happened every year with the senior class. It seems wired but the senior class always seemed to be up to something every week. I remember thinking my Jr year the my senior class was gonna change how people viewed us. I was so right.
The traditional four year school system does not meet the needs of some high school students. Students in today’s society have their own unique method of learning. The more opportunities Education Achievement Authority offer the better students will be successful. Flexibility should be accommodated with the traditional school system because it will offer advance students extensive learning objectives, meanwhile assisting struggling students to a better understanding.
Parents who homeschool their children believe teens become more peer independent and ready for the college life, states Kelsey Sheehy. Homeschool was used to represent the image of conservatives in rural areas of western and southern states. As author, Ray Brian explains how it's an old education practice that has now become “mainstream” and potentially the fastest growing form of education in the United States. Homeschooling has become more established during this time and has been increasingly institutionalized. Although, homeschool students are known to be typically above average, they still suffer many drawbacks. Louis Tobias explains how, not being around a lot of students causes them to have issues with their social abilities. Traditional schools provide more support for students with specific educational needs. Homeschooling is the best education practice because you can complete both high school and college credits, you learn at your own pace and there are no pressures placed on you from public school which is stated in the article written by Becky Muldrow.
Money, Prom, Jobs, College, Grades, Test Scores, Hanging out and having fun. These are examples of thoughts that may have ran through a teenagers head during their senior year of high school. Any teenager would dream of having the best grandes to end their high school with a bang but also ending their high school career in a fun and exciting way. Those thought are a perfect example of why senior year (12th grade year) of high school is the most stressful year of one's high school career. There are so many things to think about but in so little time. Like most normal teenagers, a lot of procrastinating may go on. Making things harder to do especially when you get the the end of a deadline and have to cram everything in last minute.
Starting my senior year of high school, looking back I would have never guess the opportunities and challenges that have been thrown my way. My sixth grade year, before I moved to Lennox I was very confused on what I wanted for myself and how to go about that properly. This downfall prepared me when I moved to Lennox to make sure I took full advantage of my schooling and the opportunities given to me.
I grew up in a community in Ghana where majority of the population’s livelihood and survival depend solely on what they earn from their peasant farming activities. As a result majority of the youth of school going age migrate to the cities after high school in an attempt to fend for themselves and seek greener pastures. This is attributed to the nature of poverty which characterizes the community and also the inability of parents to finance the education of their children resulting in high level of school dropouts. Despite this fact, I challenged myself that if I worked hard, earned good results and stayed focused, I would be able to turn my dreams into reality. This kept me going and I have been able to earn a bachelor’s
