"In order to be who you are, you must be willing to let go of who you think you are" - Daily Peace by National Geographic, quote from Michael Singer People often have preconceived notions about who they are. These ideas are usually detrimental, because these perceptions can cloud one's vision, causing them to lose sight of who they are. All my life I have adored science and math. Ever since I was four years old I knew I wanted to be a scientist. In addition to science, I loved writing picture books (especially about a friendly Tyrannosaurus Rex named Katie), singing, and composing songs on my little electric piano. However, in middle school, people began trying to figure out who they are and what their purpose is in the world. My classmates all began discussing whether they were math and science people, language people, or artsy people. I was not a fan of this discussion. Why couldn't I be all three? I figured that I would eventually have to decide what I preferred when it was time for me to get a job, so I decided that I would simply pick my favorite. Thus, I became a self-identified math and science person. I told myself that this didn't mean that I had to quit music or writing. I could always write and sing as a hobby. I first read this quote on January 31, 2017, halfway through my junior year, the year everyone must figure out who they are and figure it out quickly. I couldn't get this quote out of my mind as I started pondering whether I am a math and science person or
and we can do so only by taking the risk of being uniquely our own selves.” This quote fits
Just like this quote has impacted my life and many others, many more quotes will impact the lives of everyone. Whether it be good or bad, it is up to us to decide what we accept to influence us. As we as seniors, move onto the next steps in our lives, it is important that we all have at least one great quote, which will stay with us
Why are the English and Language Arts a highly-favored subject? Why do teachers become fearful when they must teach math? This article explains how reading and math are much different subjects in many ways and how important each subject is. It discusses the importance of math, the reasoning behind math, and how there are so many higher order thinking questions you can use in your classroom when it comes to math. I personally thought that higher order thinking question were strictly for reading and boy was I wrong. Marilyn Burns wants teachers to be just as excited to teach math as they are reading and language arts. Math is vital in the classroom and it is time to overcome the fear of math.
“I’m just an ordinary person. And that’s OK.” This is a quote from “Hope Floats.” This means that you have to love and accept yourself to be able to live life to the
When you believe something to be true, it becomes true for you, whatever the fact may be. "You are not what you think you are, but what you think, you are."
You are what you want to be, you are not what others want you to be, they are spectators.
Science has been a part of people’s live since the beginning of kind. It is involved in everyday living tasks such as walking, breathing and simply eating. Without the study of science, our whole purpose and lives would be left unexplainable. Many people tend to overlook how science affects our daily lives, but I think that science is one of the most important topics that a human can undertake.
I chose this quote for my presentation because I love this quote as it reminds me to not to do silly things or to take shortcuts to escape hard work. I always see life as a complicated math problem which needs to be solved, but this quote reminds me to take it as an adventure which needs to be explored. Life is the most misunderstood thing in the world. Most of us believe that life is complicated because it looks complicating. But things which look complicated aren’t necessarily complicated. There is a difference between what we believe and what the reality is.
"Oh you can be what you want to be, See what you want to see, Believe in yourself, Believe in yourself." That was a lyric from a song by Ray Charles. Its important to stand up for yourself because it builds respect and courage.
"We may never know what we will become”. That quotation seems especially apt to me because it sums up the prevailing attitude at Cornell University Summer College, a program that I had attended between my junior and senior year of high school.
“Act the way you'd like to be and soon you'll be the way you'd like to act.” ―Bob Dylan
What is mathematics mean to a scientist? Is it necessary for a scientist to learn advanced “branches” in math like Calculus, Logic or Number of Theory? According to Wilson, he believes that it is unnecessary for a scientist to need a “strong background in mathematics [because] it does not guarantee success in science”. I agree with Wilson on this point since the “exceptional mathematical fluency is required in only a few disciplines”. Let’s say if you choose to work on the field of Physics or Chemistry, there is no need for Calculus or Logic to calculate easy mathematical equations. So, I strongly believe that for a scientist, semi-literate in mathematics is enough for them to be success in the fields of science.
Integration is a topic should be talked about because it is a topic that has multiple view points some negative and some positives. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect multiple subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers to teach because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With the heavy weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever they teach needs to connect to standards and unites. Science has become a subject that has been put on the back burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are many factors that affect what and how teachers teach.
“Botany, the science of the vegetable kingdom, is one of the most attractive, most useful, and most extensive departments of human knowledge. It is, above every other, the science of beauty,” stated Joseph Paxton, a gardener and member of the British Parliament in the nineteenth century (Paxton 1).Why is botany such a enjoyable profession? The many activities you can attend such as growing and trimming are both easy ways to make money ,but take a lot of responsibility. As one prepares for a future in the field of Biology, one must consider the historical background, the educational requirements, the work environment, the duties and responsibilities, wages and benefits, and the potential for advancement of Botany.
The school subject that I have always loved was math, so I cannot really pinpoint a time when I fell in love with it and thought it was fun because I have always loved it. However, there were times that teachers went beyond expected, which one teacher that did was in 5th grade. He taught the concepts in an engaging way. Yes, we did have the 1-31 odd, even, or all of the problems, but the way he engaged us was in class. To help us learn it more, he had us do competitions with teams, by yourself, and against yourself with trying to beat your own goal. They involved white board completions, around the world, and accelerated math. He had us moving around with those activities as well. We were able to earn points, candy, and a party if we won.
