Student success, like joining an extracurricular activity has an impact on student success, but it doesn’t have to be good. Some activities might require lots of time and sometimes students don’t have that time. It can be a positive impact because it normally looks good on college applications. Lots of extracurricular and the instructions, as well as strictness, gives the students a chance to receive a seal of some sort, sashes and/or cords for graduation and their diplomas. Some of that success in high school is required to get into a school, especially 4-year schools. Students also learn from it when they are in a certain club, sport, or any other type of extracurricular activity. When the materials are provided they feel more comfortable being in the activity because they don’t feel left out without the materials and necessities.

Once you find something you love to do, you can use it to your benefit in order to succeed in your education. Throughout my life, I have always been pushed to strive for success from the people around me. Grades, co-curricular activities, and service commitments have all been prioritized in my life; which they should be. However, things do not always turn out in my favor. When I think about student success I immediately think of the term a “sense of belonging”. While there are many factors that positively impact students both academically and socially, I believe that having a supportive community serves as a backbone for all overarching areas of a student’s career. Historically the main focus was the extensions of the boundaries of knowledge (p.3 the student personal point of view, 1937).As a first-generation student, from a working class family in rural America, I was significantly influence by the supportive communities provided by student affairs professionals. My academic success and personal development went through a transformation that ended up leading me to the field of student affairs.
President Obama was once quoted saying, “By the end of this decade two in three job openings will require some higher education. Two in three. And yet, we still live in a country where too many Americans are priced out of the education they need.” which is a pretty depressing statement to hear from our commander in chief regarding the future of the people. America is known for being the land of opportunity where typically the favored goal of the people is acquiring wealth for a better lifestyle and future. Growing up as a kid I was always told by my teachers and parents that higher education after high school is extremely necessary; this same expectation goes for the whole country as there is clearly emphasis on getting a college degree in order to be successful. Although college may not be for everyone, there are those who would really like to gain acceptance to an institution, but cannot because they do not have the money to do so. The rise in cost to be a college student has become too expensive for a country that encourages, and emphasizes higher education. Tuition and fees, loans, and extra expenses become a big price to pay for wanting to play the proper role in society as a student looking for a better future.
Success, both in career and academics, does not come easy nor it happens overnight. It requires preparation, hard work, dedication and discipline. It also entails knowing your strengths, weaknesses, and knowing yourself. By succeeding in school, it also opens doors to a wide range of opportunities in the career world. Continuing academic readiness is consistently seeking advancement in ones education in preparation for any academic challenges along the way. There are few main aspects that contribute to one’s academic success; these include knowing what your goals are both academics and career, discovering your personal learning style, and utilizing outside resources that will help achieve one’s success.
Scientist have research that about 90% of the people don't achieve their goals because of the challenges encountered. Many of our students here in the city of Anaheim are faced with challenges everyday and sometimes don’t know how to deal with them. My argument is that student success is founded upon giving full effort from students rather than by achieving good grades. In the research story of the secret to raising smart kids by Carol Dweck is a research based paper on the achievements of students.”The mastery oriented children, on the other hand, think intelligence is malleable and can be developed through education and hard work. They want to learn above all else. After all if you believe it that you can expand your intellectual skills, you want to do just that, because slipups stem from a lack of effort, not ability, they can be remedied by more effort”(27).The student intellectual intelligence can grow by studying. They believe that intelligence is malleable. It can be changed or shaped by the hard work and what things we change. If school in Anaheim cared about their education we would be talking about different topics. Since we would be putting so much effort to our changes of habit to better understanding in school we would be satisfied with our results. Many of us would try again and again if it is possible to get a better result. Putting effort can take time but at the end it is worth it. Many of our students believe a challenge changes their intelligence view.
As a student myself there were many ways that I thought that you can do in order to become successful, but after I did my research on the different ways students can become successful I came to a conclusion that I was wrong and that it takes more work and dedication to become successful and to accomplish the goals that you want. In order for Anaheim High schools to improve on student success the following changes have to take place: In order to increase student success at Anaheim High schools need to spend more time in school, and by motivating students to work hard and not just be smart, schools can increase student success, and in order to increase student success students need to spend more time in extracurricular activities. By doing these things in Anaheim High school, we will have a lot of students become successful, not just in school, but in life as well.
At first, some people believed that student success relied all on the students to make the best decisions for themselves, but now some may believe that the students need more than just themselves to be successful. Students need the support of their parents and teachers to keep them on the right track for their suture. If the students have extra time after doing all their school stuff, they do that the choice to do extracurricular activities at school or in their community. Research has indicated that the probability of a student graduating and attending college is tied to their ability to read. According to Casey, “Children who are not reading at a proficient level by fourth grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school before graduating” (as cited in Balcazar, 2014). To add, Snow stated, “Reading proficiency underlies success in multiple aspects of life. Strong reading comprehension skills have implications for academic success in diverse areas of study, such as social studies, science and math” (as cited in the Research and Practice in the Field of Early Literacy Learning, 2013, p. 2). In addition, “Success in the workforce also depends on reading comprehension skills and individuals with lower reading comprehension skills are at a greater risk for unemployment” (Research and Practice in the Field of Early Literacy Learning, 2013, p. 2). Student achievement is a multi-faceted concept and does not look the same for every student. At the core of student achievement are comprehension and connection. Students must be able to understand and contextualize instructional material to foster comprehension. Equal to comprehension is the ability of students to connect with the material and make relevant associations between concepts and skills for application. The intention of instruction based on prioritizing and unwrapping standards helps educators to define the instructional pathway that best supports the standard and facilitates student learning. Learning pathways align essential objectives, activities and resources to outline progress within a standard. Learning pathways detail the skills students need to acquire for demonstrating comprehension and mastery, which constitute achievement.
In education today, schools prioritize grades. This often leads students to believe that grades define success. But there is a recurring issue involving grades that constantly comes to mind. Education’s emphasis on grades has lead students to believe that their grades are much more valuable to them rather than their learning which in the end is not beneficial in any way.
College seems to be a constant battle for students to do well in classes and remain above water. It is as if students are attempting to figure out what mixture of coffee, sleep, and studying makes for a perfect college student. With so much pressure being put into getting a degree and going into professional schools after college, it would be a helpful tool for students to know what makes an individual more successful academically than the next. Resent research by Ackerman and Heggestad (1997) has suggested that individual differences such as personality and motivation can be used to explain not only variance in academic performance, but also the process by which traits influence examination scores. Motivation is a composed of four main components including academic self-efficacy, attributions, intrinsic motivation, and achievement goals (Pintrich, 2002). O’Neil, Goffin, and Gellatly (2010) have found that when test taking motivation is high students tend to perform better on exams increasing the rate of academic success.
Throughout the years of education, and how important it is for us, especially for kids while I’m a student myself I believe that everyone needs an education. Being successful is always the main goal while gaining more knowledge from schools in which everybody understands if they want a marvelous life and be happy as well. Countless people have often researched the reason why students or people generally need the use of education and how it changes their ways of seeing objects in the real world. It doesn’t change the fact that, kids in all over the world they should have a place in education and work hard so that they can improve while understanding what they need to do without struggling or act in a rude way that most people see kids or students as. To succeed in a classroom and at Middle Tennessee State University, college students need to use the resources accessible to them through academic careers with their skills, to get where they want in life. Students with good degrees or high levels of education are more likely to be employed and paid a higher salary grade than the others with no academic success. Setting goals is very important since it gives a view of how you need your future to end up being. It distinguishes your identity and what you can do to satisfy certain tasks. I myself have accomplished a few of my many goals and I try to follow and fulfill all of them. By using time management, the memory principles, support systems, my personality types, test taking skills. By using all of these things which can help me become successful academically and become the physical therapist I want to become.
An educational institution is a place where an individual gets opportunity to learn and develop self potential that shapes his or her life. A successful student is well rounded and tries to make time for studying and doing social activities. Education is the most important thing on the hand of a successful student. There are lots of successful students in every country. They set up a studying schedule. A successful student should be a student that can balance school with social life. School is second home and teachers are second parent for a successful student. Positive thinking about the future is always in their mind. They always chose better path as comparing to the losers. Successful student is able to manage time for their academic carrier. Doing best of his/her ability is always in their mind. There are three major characteristics of a successful student. They are self-motivated, hardworking, and follow the rules that are implemented in a school and be respectful.
