The definition of swimming can be defined as moving your body through the water. Also swimming is a sport or activity of propelling oneself through the water using the limbs. Some say humans have evolved from sea creatures, but looking at our bodies no one would never know. Humans are actually less well suited to moving through water. Also we humans don 't float too well, can 't breathe for long beneath the surface because we breathe air, and rapidly get tired as we thrash through the waves. One big advantage humans do have is we know about sometimes about science. We have studied how forces work and how to use them to our advantage. You should think of swimming as a science. The main force you have to think about as a swimmer drags water resistance. We 'll come to that in a moment. Another difference between water and air is that if you swim outdoors, particularly in the winter month, the water is much more dense than air and it removes heat from your body about 25–40 times faster than air at the same temperature. Newton’s Laws of Motion corresponds with swimming. The first law outlines the concept of inertia. It says that things stay still or move steadily, unless some kind of a force is applied. The second and third laws are also of more interest. The second law explains the connection between force and acceleration. If you push or pull something, it starts moving or goes faster. The more force you apply, the more acceleration you get; the longer you apply the force, the bigger the change in momentum you can achieve. As I mentioned before swimmers aren’t based on their ability to master the techniques but also in the values they posses. The values they posses are respect, honesty, fairness and courage. I had to learn and use those values everyday I went to swimming practice. There’s one thing that I needed to have to become part of the discourse community, which was being passionate about swimming and not giving up. At the beginning it was really hard for me not to give up when I was exhausted, but after becoming more passionate for swimming I never gave up. There were moments when I thought of giving up, but I knew that if I really wanted to call my self a swimmer I shouldn’t give up and I didn’t. For example, once I was in a Swimming Festival in my High School where I competed the four different strokes. I always finished second in the 50-meter freestyle race, but that day I decided I would end up first place. The race started and I jumped into the water and started pacing my self so that I would finish strong. In the first 25-meters we were all tied up and I was starting to feel tired. But I knew I couldn’t give up, so I took a deep breath and pushed harder. I pushed harder and was able to win the first place. After this race, I realized that even though I felt like giving up, something inside me was telling me to push harder and that thought led me to success. I was able to
My parents tell me that I took to swimming like... a fish takes to water. It is a safe place where I can float free of worries. Driven by passion and dedication, I decided to begin swimming competitively. Competitive swimming requires an intense level of determination and discipline. Forcing myself to get out of my warm bed at 5:30 in the morning to put on a still-slightly-damp swimsuit and stand in 40-degree weather waiting for practice to start. Putting up with limited lane space and irritating swimmers who think they are faster. Making a conscious effort to work on my stroke form, turns, touches, and techniques. The water becomes a whirlpool of injuries, losses, wins, friendships, enemies, and sickness. The water becomes home.
In The Swimmer a short story by John Cheever a man named Neddy Merrill decides to swim across every pool in the county naming his route the Lucinda River after his wife. As he goes on this journey some of his neighbors are nice, some show pity, and others show distaste for him. Throughout the story Cheever gives subtle hints that Neddy is disoriented as he doesn’t remember key details of things that have happened to his friends in the area. At the end of the story a disoriented Neddy reaches his home to find it empty, with his family gone. Cheever uses this short story to critique the way of life in the upper class suburbs of America that contributed to the social demise of Neddy Merrill
I learned that swimming is both good for the body and the mind. Water is 600 to 700 times denser than air so it improves muscular strength. Adapted aquatics can also improve flexibility because the reduction in gravity allows a greater range of motion and the uniform pressure gives the body greater support. Adapted aquatics is also good for mental and emotional health of those with special needs. While swimming the volunteers give praise and strike up friendly conversation that give opportunity for success. I also learned that adapted aquatics activities should be changed to fit the individual's needs and
“Get up now,” My mom yelled down the hallway. “Hurry or you’ll be late!” My brother and I dreaded waking up early to swim, but we had chosen to commit. Even though I’ve competed every year since first grade, I still struggled. That summer swimming taught me to have stamina, the ability to not quit even though it was hard.
Swimming means everything to me. Swimming is my passion, my drive, my motivation. It’s the reason that I chose William Jewell College for my secondary education. Swimming has taught me many things and helped me grow as a person.

Now on my back, I began to swim a stroke the complete opposite of the more commonly known freestyle. My arms started to swing like they had lost all attachment to my body, but my legs seemed to refuse to kick. I kicked and splashed the water as hard as I could, but my arms seemed to be doing the only work. Understanding the fundamental relationships in mechanics, helps form a foundation for the analysis of human movement in surfing. The main principle or law of motion I am going to look into is Newton’s Law of Action and Reaction. This law of motion is mainly applied when paddling. It helps me understand how the application of force to my arm and hand determines the speed and movement of my surfboard and this allows such movement to become more efficient.
Support 2: Open Swimming- Open swimming like at sea, lake or river can increase the chances of drowning because the water currents are not stable like in pools. They are more dynamic and can pull you along with it. Aquatic animals like Jelly fishes, sharks, crabs, crocodiles, alligator, etc. are other threats as they can harm you physically. You can also injure yourself while diving into shallow water. But these effects can be stopped by swimming at a public pool and most have swim equipment such as pull buoys, kick boards, and fins to help increase your performance.
Watching the screen, many children and adults are glued to the swimmers that race each other in the Olympics. The swimmers are young and strong, but many do not know who these swimmers are. Adding on to what they do not know contains the history of swimming in the glorified Olympics. The backstory of this sporting event shows the progression and improvement of swimming because swimming evolved through the Olympics. This includes the beginning, improvement, and modern Olympic swimming sport.
Swimming is also a valuable tool outside competition and recreation. Knowing how to swim can me survival in emergencies. Swimming can also aid in physical therapy and is a general exercise. Many muscles in the body are utilized.
