Introduction
ISIS is a terrorist group threat that has grown within the subject of the War on Terror taking place within the nation of Iraq and surrounding areas.
ISIS is the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. It is also sometimes know as ISIL, because sometimes, “Syria”, is replaced with the term, "the Levant". At a certain level, one gets the impression that ISIS just emerged from nowhere.

The organization was not a presence in Iraq when the United States was actually engaged in full-scale military operations there and has only emerged as a strong political power since the American withdrawal from Iraq. Ward has pursued the hypothesis that the origins of ISIS can be traced back to an American prison camp in Iraq called Camp Bucca, "According to a CBS News investigation, at least 12 of the top leaders of ISIS served time in Camp Bucca, including the man who would become the group 's leader, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
Over the course of the past several years, it is likely that various parties that would later consolidate into ISIS participated in the insurgencies against the United States. However, for a considerable period of time, it would seem that it was somewhat difficult to mark a meaningful difference between Al-Qaeda proper, the precursors of ISIS, and the Ba 'athists loyal to Saddam Hussein. ISIS stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. It is referred as a terrorist group by the United States, whereas ISIS considers themselves to be an army instead. ISIS has been responsible for many gruesome attacks all over the world one of them being the execution of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh. They originated from Al-Qaeda in Iraq but they had big ambitions by kicking America out and setting up an Islamic state. To this date hold their land there unlike other groups like Al-Qaeda and Taliban. They have a huge support from people as their count being over 30,000 soldiers and followers. They are heavily armed, can fund themselves, have an organized infrastructure, and can cause a lot of damage. Later in 2006, their brutality lost them the support of Iraqi Sunnis who partnered with US forces to help push them out of the country. And for this incident, America takes a lot of credit for this and call it the Surge in which they helped Sunnis rise up against Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s rule. This led to Al-Qaeda in Iraq being defeated but not destroyed by only being driven out of the land they used to control and later they began rebuilding themselves by being involved in the fighting in Syria as they were trying to throw the Shiite Assad regime. Isis is made up of the islamic state and El Sham, who controls territory roughly the size of Belgium. They are very famous for their brutal methods towards enemies.
ISIS actually started out as Al-Qaida in Iraq in 2004 and was used to fight coalition forces in Iraq. The group transformed to the Islamic State of Iraq in 2006 when its leader, Abu Mus‘ab al-Zarqawi, was killed. In 2013, it professed itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Although both groups are similar and are both powerful terrorist groups, they have different targets and tactics. Some similarities and differences are listed below:
Some believe that ISIS was formed from Al Qaeda which splinted off the organization because of different beliefs due to the Iraqi Baathist regime’s defeat during Saddam Hussein’s time frame. One that thing that is understood is that Abu Musab al Zarqawi caused a conflict with extremism when he was killed in 2006 destroying years of economic sanctions creating an opening for a new group to unleash its power. Due to Al Qaeda’s goal, they failed to list to Bin Laden and Zawahiri to target western population. ISIS was able to use the Sunni people to facilitate approach to increase ideologies. ISIS which is also known by other names such as ISIL or the Islamic State, arised around 1999 in Iraq as a group of extreme Sunni Muslim Jihadists. Extreme jihadism is the practice of extremely agressive interpretations of the Jihad and of Islamic fundamentalism. Though every muslim somewhat follows their own Jihad , this group has taken it to another level both believing it is right to kill and behead in the name of god. After Americas invasion of Iraq was over , and with the neighboring civil war in Syria , the brutal group has been able to gain alot of power in the past couple years and seems to be gaining even more now.

The establishment of AQI (al-Qaeda In Iraq) in mid-2004 by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was the start of what is now known as ISIS2. In 2006, when al-Zarqawi was killed by the US militia, the new leader of AQI announced the creation of ISI (Islamic State in Iraq). In 2013, the leader of ISI, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, subsumed a militant group by the name of al-Nusra Front; thus creating ISIS3. Constant fighting occurred between members of the prior al-Nusra Front and the members of ISIS; ISIS had enhanced the old leaders tactics and began targeting more and more people.
ISIS is a Jihadist militant group operating in Iraq and Syria whose plan is to restore the Islamic state in the region encompassing Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, and southeastern Turkey. It considers itself at war with anyone who does not meet its standards as "true" Muslims. ISIS is a highly fanatical group who seeks to kill all “who oppose their violent religious ideology.
