Whether on purpose or not, artworks will always have emotion and messages etched into them which viewers pick up on. The viewers develop these emotions and messages by analysing certain elements and principles of the piece. One can often find that if you use an element in two ways that are the complete opposite to each other, you will effect the mood similarly. For example, cool colours are associated with sadness, while warm tones with happiness. Another example being that of the two emotions love and loneliness which are openly displayed in two pieces we will be analysing. The first being a Austrian piece ‘The Kiss’ made by Gustav Klimt in 1908. A well known piece highly associated with love, and quite the opposite to Russel Drysdale’s ‘The Drover’s Wife’. Made in 1945, the Australia artwork shows loneliness. These two artworks deliver completely different meanings to the viewers simply by differing the ways in which certain elements and principles are used. Some of which being colour, space, and emphasis. By analysing these emotive pieces, we will develop an understanding of why and how art can make us feel different emotions.
The beautiful, gilded style piece that is known as ‘The Kiss’ is an emotive piece expressing love. The focal point of this piece is the two lovers embraced in a kiss in the centre of the canvas. The artwork on its own shows a strong display of emotion, an evoked love, passion and love. How the audience comes to this conclusion is in how Klimt uses
A distinctly visual aspect of demonstrating the experience of the characters kindles curiosity in the audience to involve and instill emotional understanding of the context. Through the use of distinct and unique techniques, composers create an emotional response that can have a significant effect on the responders’ attitude on the world. The play ‘The shoe-horn sonata’ explores the crisis of circumstances as John Misto depicts the forgotten history of the women captured and imprisoned during WW2. Misto explores the experiences of the Australian nurses and the government’s response to their pleads of salvation, to emotionally bind the audience and the characters. Likewise, David Douglas Duncan involves the audience by evoking a feeling of pity and empathy in his Korean War photograph. He creates sentiment for the loss of innocence and employs distinctly visual elements to convey the horrifying nature of war. He profoundly highlights power in the photograph to explore the despair felt by the weak fleeing Korean citizens. Hence, both authors elevate the context with a visual representation of the individuals’ struggles to create curiosity and emotional rapport with the audience to improve the understanding of the characters experiences.
Since the beginning of time, artists have labored extensively to find innovative ways to convey sentiment, passion, and feeling. Telling stories and trying to unlock the minds of people through different avenues of artistic labors. Art touches and affects people in unique ways; it can have special or unusual meaning on the person depending on how one views it. Artists’ rendering of their art is interpreted in numerous ways by others who view it unless it is explained by the artist on its meaning giving a clear example of what they are portraying. Two people looking at the same painting, sculpture, portrait, or photo may come to different views on the arts meaning even though they are looking

The young, innocent, promising lives of our past drive emotions through artistic expressions that can be displayed though many outsources. Upon our day to view the art gallery, I entered the gallery feeling apprehensive that I would view any piece of art that I found relatable or even one that I found any interest in. I was wrong in my assumptions and found a beautiful painting named “Console” by Barlow Palminteri. Tasked with describing what the painting looks like, what it means to me, as well as my overall connection with the painting is what I’ll discuss within this paper. The painting’s colors, sizes, shapes, and artistic aspects drew me into its beauty and torment. Likewise, the painting reminded me of my youth that roused many different

A person’s state of mind and their emotions can be expressed in numerous ways without a word ever being spoken. In writing, a poet may share their heartbreak through verse, while a musician will spread their joy and happiness through melody. A photographer may express a moment of beauty and awe through a vibrant image, while an artist can use paint to silently convey turmoil using dark colors or shadow. Taking a more in depth look into the visual arts, it is evident that artists will often use their artwork, such as paintings, to convey an autobiographical account of different, but poignant periods in their lives. Some will paint their bare souls on to the canvas, leaving little to contemplated. Others make their loneliness and sadness subtle,
Many art forms contain strong messages and emphasise the particular beliefs, values and opinions held by those who produce them. Art is the purging or release of emotional tension within us. Art completes what nature is unable to finish; expressing the author's emotional power through imaginative or technical skills such as photography, painting, performing art and media. Centuries of art have been explored through Political, emotional, beauty and cultural traditions, which have impacted generations. Some artists produce their ideas from their own personal imaginings, private struggles and strong emotional visions. Artist such as Barbara Kruger and Bansky deeply dive into the emotional, political side of the art world. There pieces were effective
The young, innocent, promising lives of our past drive emotions through artistic expressions that can be displayed though many outsources. I met my lifelong friend on a day that seemed inevitable to find absolutely nothing. Upon our day to view the art gallery, I entered the gallery feeling very negative that I would view any pieces of art that spoke to me directly. I thought, what possible piece could spark any emotions whatsoever within this “old soul”. I imagined walking in to the gallery to find out that the artistic expressions of others meant little to nothing to me. I was wrong in my assumptions and found a beautiful painting named “Console” by Barlow Palminteri. Tasked with describing what the painting looks like, what it means to me, as well as my
There are various ways to depict a certain theme, a common way being transmitted through the tone. Two separate poems illustrate the same theme, yet do it through their different respective tones. The villanelles, Elizabeth Bishop’s “One Art” and Martha Collins “The Story We Know” both convey a theme of love and loss; However, Bishop displays an indifferent, self-loathing tone, while Collins portrays a familiar, accepting tone. In “One Art” by Elizabeth Bishop, her use of literary elements help her achieve an attempted detached, nonchalant tone that veils confused internal emotions equating to loss.
Art represents many characteristics. It can represent happiness, anger, or strength and beauty. My three artworks that I have chosen represent strength as well as beauty. The first painting, the horse represents the strength of such a beautiful well-crafted animal. The definition of the muscle on the horse, and the way Leonardo shows the shadowing characteristics of this animal is exquisite. The second painting, the recreation of “Starry night” shows how colors can change the mood or happiness drawn in by single strokes of color throughout the painting. The third painting 2D or not to 3D shows strength as well as beauty in the
Human emotions remain as one of the world’s biggest secrets. Like sleep, we know what happens to our body when we experience these emotions whether it be a release of hormones or a certain area on the body becomes more sensitive. But we don’t know why we have them, experience them, or what purpose they serve. All we know is everyone’s emotions behave differently. Different types of arts can elicit completely different emotional response from people. Some art may have the ability to appeal to dangerous emotions in certain people. Whether it be the corruption of a once faithful and beautiful young girl, plagued by the desire for romanticism and lofty ideas, or a handsome young nobleman who is obsessed with living life to fullest. Both are fueled by the emotion that a certain type of art elicits in them, leaving them in a never ending chase that ruins there life’s. In the Novels Madame Bovary and The Picture of Dorian Grey the protagonists in these stories perfectly exemplifies the danger of arts emotional appeal by showing the corruption and eventual downfall of two once young and beautiful souls by exposing them to art that pleases dangerous emotions such as desire, pleasure, entitlement and disappointment.
Edvard Munch is a highly influential artist, pioneering many of the ideas that informed the German Expressionist movement. The crux of his work is in the reflection the death, grief and emotion of his own experiences. Drawing from his own tortured upbringing, with the death of his father, brother and sister, as well as his own mental and physical illnesses. There are several ways in which he visualises this emotion in his work. Through form, colour and technique Munch translates his obsession with psychological states into highly striking works that have resounded through generations of artists and
As the leader of the Austrian avant-garde movement, Klimt’s artworks evoke both the splendor and the decadence of Vienna by the end of the 19th century.

he painting Amour et Psyché, enfants is an oil painting by William Adolphe created in 1890 and the motion picture "the Pursuit of Happyness" by Steven Conrad both effectively convey the power of love in a time of despair. In this paper, I will argue that both Amour et Psyché, enfants and "The Pursuit of Happyness" both communicate how the role of love plays into overcoming hardships. In the following paragraphs, we will consider the inspirations, scenery, techniques used to convey the mood and the stories behind these artworks that shed light in the depiction of love within and after sorrow.
