The Legacy Café discussion boards were a great way for the class to come together to share ideas, stories, and learn from each other. After reading many articles, it was clear that the class demonstrated passion and respect for each other and the topics.
Group Outcomes Group 2 came together as a team to teach and learn from each other. The discussion boards each member of the group participated in were insightful and contained grounded literature to back up their discussion. The group stimulated conversation with each other on the topics as well as came together to summarize the group’s discussion for the class. As a whole, the class decided to expand our discussions and take action on safe staffing. The group decided one of the goals would be to split up the list of congressional contacts to broaden the scope of support for the safe staffing bill. The group successfully accomplished this goal by splitting the list of congressional contacts to send emails with a brief asking for support. At this point, we have received mixed results for responses, some in the group came across difficulty because of living out of state. Effectiveness of teamwork has proven to be beneficial to organizations, patients, and nurses (Wheelan & Tilin, 2003). One individual within a group organized a Facebook page for the support of the class’s health care bill on safe staffing. This will allow the class to spread the information and continue to gain support from other individuals
I have been fortunate enough to work in a teaching hospital for over a decade, on a unit that has a strong sense of teamwork. I have watched residents grow from unsure medical students to capable
As a scholar and leader in the area of medicine, it is imperative to understand how to work as a team to provide the best possible care to patients. “Educators are responding to complexities of today’s medical knowledge by developing educational programs based on current learning theories, such as enactivism, where learning takes place within teams that are actively engaged in clinical environments” (Davidson, Morgan, & Simons, 2012, p. 291). This results in more patients that can place their trust in physicians and nurses who know how to work together as a team.
Jones could vividly recall the collective support and motivation that was accompanied in his recovery by the entirety of his team (Jones, 2015). This presents the role of nursing, as well as the roles of the other health care professionals, is very collaborative and team oriented, as they were never addressed individually. This presentation of their roles was somewhat consistent with my pre-existent idea of what roles they play. An example would be in terms of emotional availability, by acknowledging Jones’ concerns. (Jones, 2015). However, I had never considered the role of nursing, or the other professions as being so largely team oriented or being in direct contact on a daily basis.
As a volunteer in the emergency room, I was exposed to various medical procedures performed by the technicians, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. I was surprised to see how a place that seems to be constantly chaotic can still give every patient the care they need. It was not until I spent more time volunteering in the emergency room did I realize that although it seemed to be chaotic, the healthcare providers had a well established routine along with teamwork. I was shocked when I saw a physician assistant delivering lunch to a patient, as this is usually done by the nurses or technicians. It was through this that I understood how teamwork is essential to providing excellent care. The health care professionals in this emergency room never pulled rank or established clear cut responsibilities, everyone just did what they could and this was how simple their routine was. They didn’t let their pride prevent them from what needed to be done, after all every healthcare worker only has one responsibility; and that is to care for the patient to their fullest
Team work at this level is a very involved process in which a wide variety of health care workers, from
In most health care settings, different professionals practicing in different disciplines usually come together to help take care of patients. This is typically known as a team based approach. Researchers have found that integrating this approach is a key component to better treat patients, specifically undeserved populations and communities with limited access to health care (Pinto et al., 2012). Teamwork in health care is the
Furthermore, being able to working in a team is also essential for a physician. Coordinating thoughts and actions with colleagues will create opportunities for collective thinking, pooled efforts, and constructive criticism to more efficiently provide care. This can be reflected through my role as president of the Muslim Students Association where I oversee an eleven-member executive board coordinating their actions to put on many events throughout the year.
Teamwork is a quality that I believe is crucial for the medical field. I am a collaborative person and working well with others is a strong attribute that I and workers in the medical industry possess. Also, I do not discriminate nor do I ever refuse to work with anyone because of personal feelings. This is a significant quality that one should possess in order to provide safety for their
An effective way the nurse can utilize advocacy to increase awareness about a major issue can be accomplished by getting involved in the community board meeting to share the impacts the issue has on the community. According to NYC (2016), Community board plays an important role in providing quality of life for all the residents of New York City by utilizing a democratic approach to involve public participation, consensus building and create a positive local change. To further analyze the importance of community board meeting, this paper will identify the purpose of a community board meeting that I have attended, identify behavioral characteristics of the group leaders, describe a discussion, and analyze some alternative strategies for consensus building.
Teamwork is vital in healthcare. When all participants are engaged in a program, goals are successfully achieved. Being able to communicate and work collectively as a team requires an appreciation for each other’s area of practice. Every team member has an important role and being acknowledged provides a sense of responsibility and accountability. Essentially, inter-professional collaboration helps ensure that the patient is getting care that is not only accessible but also comprehensive. The plan of a patients’ care includes active participation by all health care professionals working interdependently in accordance to the patient’s preferences, values and beliefs. The health care team accomplishes the goal of meeting the patient’s medical needs by delivering evidence-based practice. To deliver quality care, the patient should always be involved.
A major concept that we have learned about in our nursing 182 class is Teamwork. Teamwork is essential in the nursing field and this analysis will show just how important it is.
During the team formation, a number of challenges manifested. Firstly, it was the fact that there were nurses from other units. Hence, there were fears that they may not be well informed with procedures undertaken in our unit. However, this challenged was effectively addressed by assigning the nurses from other units a nurse from our unit to help her during the emergency period.
Teams working in a hospital or other healthcare setting may consist of several physicians, nurses, medical assistants, referral coordinators, pharmacists, therapists, and students among others. Such large teams can provide comprehensive care for complex and chronic illnesses, but when they fail to work well together, they
