Research is the most important aspect of information. It takes a significant amount of research to verify facts. However, research has also been modified, skewed, and reworded in the favor of political groups, world leaders, local politicians, and any special interest groups trying to advocate one side or the other. It takes a lot of motivation, discipline, and close observation to be effective in the realm of research. Facts are primary. Getting facts takes time and detail. One must be able to articulate what one is researching, while finding out the facts. This process includes giving multiple definitions, providing data and resources, and essentially anything one can do to avoid having their words manipulated by special interest groups. Within this paper, three articles with different methods of research will be analyzed. They all are different from one another. Each article is within its’ own category. One is a qualitative study, the other is a quantitative correlational study, and the last is a treatment outcome study. In addition, in order to understand the explanation of these studies, it’s necessary to give a definition of what each study means. In reviewing this article, this writer was able critique the study and the suitability that it can possess if applied to actual practice. An important factor on whether a study can be considered valuable is if it is transferable in other situation, that is, a study's results should also be reflective if duplicated on other samples (Polit & Beck, 2006). Thus, the statistical power, internal and external validity are important to observe and note (Polit & Beck). If this writer were to carry out this study, it would have to be reflective of how the researcher performed it originality.
An educational journey consists of effective study habits which will require researching various sources, managing personal/family life, and balancing work and school. Research is very important. It will either hurt you or help you, depending on your research skills and time management skills. Research helps link one’s ideas to true and tested studies that can help prove a stance on a particular subject matter. When one is able to provide information backed up by empirical studies, one’s information can begin to flourish. For example, think about the various magazines that are sold nationwide. The National Enquirer is seen to be a false, untrue magazine that provides information about subject matters that are not even true. Even though, the National Enquirer is a great attention getter, there are surmountable people who know the stories printed inside are not believable. In regards to research, students should seek out reputable sources that can enhance their writing skills which in turn will help to write a better paper. Research provides valuable knowledge for the student. The student may already know the information but the research will give added seasoning to that knowledge. Just like cooking, one knows how to cook a turkey but, it’s the seasonings that will bring the turkey to life. Those seasoning ideas may come from various individuals.

In this paper I will analyze two articles, one is quantitative and the other is qualitative. I will describe the quantitative methods used including the research question addressed, the hypothesis, and variables. I will identify the population and sample. I will discuss the reliability and validity of the instruments used. I will then discuss the design of the article and how the findings were analyzed. For the qualitative article, I will identify the design of the article, the methods used and the strategies used for analyzing the data. In research, there is no right or wrong process; although there are many heuristics that can be passed on. Appropriate use of information requires that we see knowledge acquirement as fluid and varying. (Jones, 1996)
Literature ranged in publication date from 1997 to 2010. This extends beyond the recommended timeframe of five years. Articles that were older than five years were noted to be qualitative and according to Burns & Grove (2011) this is an appropriate exception to the recommended timeframe. The literature effectively identified the gaps in knowledge that provided a basis for the study.
Researchers often times are faced with the decision of choosing a methodology of research; either Quantitative or Qualitative that they think best fits their study and objectives. This choice is guarded by the topic of study, the advantages and disadvantages, and the strengths and weaknesses of using either one or the other type of the methodologies.
It is important that news sources provide facts because not only does that allow viewers to choose a side, but it also informs him/her about what is going on. An individual should not have to search for the truth; every source should give both sides of a story. Each individual should be able to find the truth in a single source. Since this is not the case, viewers are having to look for the truth. Watching the news on the television mostly shows only one side of the story and the sources do not pay attention to other opinions which makes the viewer stick to that belief as well. However, in today’s generation, most individuals do not rely on television for the news. These individuals utilize electronic devices to find out about recents news. Everyone has their own ways of obtaining information about every topic imaginable. There is not one set way of accumulating information, but there are some ways that allow better quality of information to be obtained. For example, some people use the media to find information on the Affordable Care Act and others use reputable academic sources to do the same. The media’s main focus for covering the Affordable care Act is for political reasons, where academia uses information about the Affordable Care Act in order to understand various cultural assumptions.
The biggest thing I noticed in the process of doing research was how much time it took. I don’t usually amass 10 sources I usually only pick 5 to 6. When I do pick less sources I use a lot of information from them. I don’t just pick and choose. I think it is important to have a lot of different sources to support your argument but I also think quality over quantity is important as
Qualitative research is conducted in a natural setting and attempts to understand a human problem by developing a holistic narrative and reporting detailed views of informants about the culture of a problem. It forms a report with pictures and words. One of the most important distinctions that sets qualitative research apart from more traditional types of research is that qualitative research is holistic in that researchers study phenomena in their entirety rather than narrowing the focus to specific defined variables” (p. 93). Similarly, Cresswell (1984) indicated that qualitative research “is defined as an inquiry process of understanding a social or human problem, based on building a holistic picture, formed with words, reporting detailed views of informants, and conducted in a natural setting” (p. 2). Cresswell’s definition clearly delineates the major characteristics of qualitative research. Pg. 50 (Smith & Davis, 2010).
Qualitative and Quantitative study designs both can be beneficial in research design. They both provide valuable options for researchers in the field. These techniques can either be used separately in a research study or they can be combined to achieve maximum information. This paper will define the terms qualitative and quantitative; describe the similarities and differences between each; discuss how qualitative and/or quantitative research designs or techniques could be used in the evaluation of my proposed research; and discuss why linking analysis to study design is important.
