Over the last thirty years the obesity rate has tripled for children ages two to nine, Children and adults alike are getting more and more unhealthy from fast food (Obesity Rates). Food has many effects such as increased blood pressure, fatigue, less emotional even an example would be mood swings and behavioral changes, kidney disease, diabetes, obesity, digestive disorders, and heart disease (Lakshmeez). These are only some of the negative effects that food has on kids and adults alike. A lot of fast food and drinks come filled with carbohydrates and with that a lot of calories. Your digestive system breaks down these and turn them into sugar which goes into your blood stream (Change). This process results in your body releasing insulin to transport the sugar to the rest of your body (Change). When you take in high amounts of carbs it causes your blood sugar to spike which alters how your body releases insulin, these effects contribute to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (Change). Carbs also cause a higher risk of eczema (inflamed, irritated patches of skin) among people with a diet consisting mainly of fast food (Change). When you consume sugars and carbs, bacteria residing in your mouth can produce acids which are very rough on your teeth (Change). This acid can destroy your tooth enamel, which is a big cause to dental problems including cavities. Obesity is often associated with an increase in respiratory problems and treating these problems are often very
Food industries trick he/she into buying their food by using words that sound healthier. Words like ''natural'' sound better, but natural is still a chemical made in a lab. Fast foods are not completely honest with the ingredients they use. We eat foods that say fat-free but fat hasn't been the problem with weight gain; it is sugar. Food Industries use more sugar or sweetener to make food taste better when they remove fat. The fat-free product causes the consumer to eat more because he or she may think it is ok too, but it is far worse to eat. Eating so much sugar can lead to high blood pressure and more health problems. The dangers of fast food can lead to significant weight gain, health problems, and more money spendings.
Fast food has a harmful effect on society because it can cause obesity. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry believes obesity “Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.” (parag. 1).The causing and treating of obesity is complex but it is the most recognizable disease. Consistently eating fast food and a poor can lead to obesity in anyone. The risks of obesity include an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, fast food “Studies have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly” (parag. 8). This means that fast food is high in fat, sugar, salt, carbs, calories, saturated and trans fats. This type of eating leads to a higher body mass index or gained weight. Children and adolescents are at a
This rhetorical analysis is over the effects of fast food and the health of the person eating it. “Eat fast, die young” is the motto of the second spoof ad. The reality is that this spoof ad is accurate. Studies over the past 30 to 50 years show that fast food and junk food is extremely unhealthy and causes obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several other diseases. Most fast food restaurants serve high caloric and low-density foods. That means one get a lot of calories and very little nutrition value from the food. Obesity rates have steadily climbed over the past 60 years as have the number of fast food restaurants. “The prevalence of obesity and obesity related diseases has increased rapidly in the U.S. since the mid-1970s. At the same time, the number of fast food restaurants more than doubled over the same time period, while the number of other restaurants grew at a much slower pace.” (Currie Vigna Moretti Pathania 1) Saying the fact that when one eats substantial amounts of fast food, the health of that person will drastically decrease is definitely true.
Fast food consumption can lead to adverse effects on the quality of dietary caused by higher energy intake. Increased risk of obesity is a major concern for parents
This article shows that fast food today is convenient because people have a lot of work to do in a very short time, so so thinking about driving through the fast food restaurant is easier and better than cooking. Therefore, one thing parents don't know is that fats, sugars, and salts are engaging their children primordial tastes. The most widely recognized disease that impacts children is obesity. Studies show that 15-20% of children aged 12-18 are overweight. In addition, obese children can affect emotional and
This causes us to be very sick. Also according to Ann Pietrangelo and Elea Carey in the article, “The Effects of Fast Food on The Body,” fast food affects the human nervous system, and if you eat fast food there is a 51 percent greater chance to be depressed and stressed. It also causes high cholesterol, high sugar, and many other negative effects (Healthline.com). This shows how fast foods, and drinks are loaded with sugar and how unhealthy it is. Another fact is that according to Scott Christ in the article, “Stop Eating Fast Food: Why Fast Food Is Slowly Killing You,” childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years (Lifehack.com).This shows us that fast food causes kids to get overweight and very sick. Lastly, also according to to Scott Christ in the article “Stop Eating Fast Food: Why Fast Food Is Slowly Killing You” If you eat
As you’re driving home from work in the evening how many different fast food places do you pass? Just in a two mile radius there is probably a McDonalds, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-a, and many others. In David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame the eater,” he makes a point that fast food restaurants don’t have to provide information on their food. Zinczenko also mentions that not only is obesity an issue, but diabetes rates have seemed to rise, causing children issues and money spent to treat it to increase. Children are big targets to the fast food industry. With fast food being as unhealthy as it is and companies not being required to tell its food ingredients, obesity, diabetes, and more importantly the cost to fix these health issues has increased tremendously, and for that reason fast food restaurants need to be regulated.
"We don 't walk. We overeat because we 've made it easy to overeat. We have fast-food joints on every corner. By the way, the 'we ' is all of us. It 's not the government. It 's all of us doing this together.”(Mehmet Oz). Fast food has been affecting Americans lives since the 1919’s and 1920’s where the first fast food restaurant originated. They were called A&W in 1919 and White Castle in 1921. More than 3 million cases of obesity in America happen a year. Over time the frequency of fast food restaurants increased and became more common in people’s lives. Big fast food franchises such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy 's, and Pizza Hut have changed the world and not in a great way. Over 3 million cases of diabetes happen in a year and an estimated 17.5 million people died from CVDs in 2012, representing 31% of all global deaths. Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. Fast food is food that can be prepared quickly. It is easily and quickly sold in restaurants and snack bars as a quick meal or to be taken home. Obesity is the condition of being grossly fat or overweight. Cardiovascular conditions are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Many people suffer from these diseases and it becomes a negative impact in their lives. Fast food causes diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular conditions.
Children who are obese are more likely to be obese as adults. Being obese can cause many health issues in children such as type two diabetes, joint problems, trouble breathing, high cholesterol as well as having low self-esteem. The Schools lunch program plays a huge role in effecting the health of
Every day, nearly one-third of U.S. children ages four to nineteen eat from a fast food restaurant this adds on about six extra pounds per child every year and increases their risk of obesity (Fast Food). In my research I learned a lot about the health risks that come with eating fast food. Fast food causes childhood obesity rates in America to increase because of its convenience, ingredients, and lack of telling people what is in the food.
Fast food restaurants have provided people easy access to a quick meal. However, the increase in substituting home cooked healthy meals with these fast food choices has lead to any changes in the American population today. The lack of nutritional value and high carbohydrate and trans fat found in many fast food meals have led to obesity and other major health problems. The effects of eating an increased amount of fast food can be seen by taking a unbiased look at the American people today.
country alone, 17% of all children and adolescents are now obese, triple the rate from
Tons of negative health effects come from eating fast food. First, obesity is a huge problem in America. The major cause of obesity comes from eating too much fast food. The obesity rates have skyrocketed over the years. Over seventy percent of Americans are overweight or obese. An author elaborated more by expressing their facts and arguing that, “Excess weight in children is a significant global public health issue: 10% of school aged children, and a further 22 million children over 5 years old estimated to be overweight or obese. Child obesity rate levels are rising across the globe”(Kelly 1). The concerns Kelly states specifically supports my point that obesity has gotten out of hand in the U.S. People
A study of The Annals of Internal Medicine indicates that more than 70% of men and more than 60% of women have extra pounds because of the consumption of fast food in large amounts. In kids the problem gets more extreme. If kids consume too much fast food they could have high cholesterol and obesity, then they would have higher risks of cardiovascular issues, diabetes and heart diseases. Parents should prevent those kinds of health issues in their kids because it will be reflected in them as adults.
Is fast food getting to be a problem? Many people love fast food but do not even now what it does to their body. There is getting to be more and more evidence that fast food is bad for people. Just about every day there is somebody that is going to the hospital because of all the fast food they eat. People may not like fast food because it is unhealthy, targets children, and exploits animals.
