Today, technology is found everywhere in education.There are computers in many of the classrooms and schools contain computer labs, or at least numerous computers in the library available to students. In my paper, I want to discuss some of the positive and negative effects that technology has on education.

It’s beneficial for students to gain some experience with computers before going to college or into the workforce.Computers are used virtually everywhere and not knowing how to use one or having a poor skill level can be a determining factor when looking at job applications and such.
Evidence shows that when used effectively, "technology applications can support higher-order thinking by engaging students in authentic, complex tasks within collaborative learning contexts." Many schools are beginning to invest more money into technological advances and/or starting more classes based on the use of computers.
One of the major drawbacks of this is the cost. Computers and software are something that is constantly being updated, and it gets extremely expensive to be continuously buying new computers and programs.Another problem could be the teacher’s own inexperience.I had a few throughout high school that were convinced that computers were the devil and refused to use them.I know in some cases, teachers are required to take small courses so they at least know the basics like the students.

Technology is a major influential factor in the progression of education. Technology has allowed for many positive advances in education, allowing for more efficient, more individualized learning. The introduction of computers in education has provided countless benefits to students, and enhanced learning greatly. Students now have a much broader wealth of information in which they can get knowledge from, and more specialized learning. Education will continue to be benefited by technology as progression continues. Individualization in education should be an ultimate goal, and this can only be achieved through technology.
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
I started middle school when we moved to Rochester Hill’s from Ann Arbor. Our new blended family (my mother remarried) had several computers and other new technological devices, as did most of the homes in the affluent community in which we lived. Home pc’s became a useful tool in middle school; I surfed the net, wrote papers, and researched articles over the Internet. My whole family became engulfed with the technology wave. Our extended family and close friends eventually all came to a point where they used some sort of pc or computing device in their everyday lives. Computers made it easy to communicate, and because our family and relatives lived a good distance apart we were able to effectively chat and email our way out of “snail mail.”
I have talked to a couple of teachers when I worked for an elementary school in high school during my Junior and Senior year. I asked the teachers whom I worked with what they thought of using the computers in schools. They said it is a nice thing to have in school for the students. Across the U.S., technology used in education has been increasing exponentially. Every learning institution ranging from elementary school to college have incorporated technology into their teachings. Online textbooks, quizzes, notes, and classes are all examples of how education has been utilizing technology. While technology has a place in education, not everything in education needs to involve technology.
The use of technology has the ability to allow teachers to teach the student, instead of teaching the grade level. Jon Bower, CEO of Lexia Learning Systems, points this fact out when he states,
Being proficient in using technology will be a prerequisite for almost any employment for younger students. It is the school’s job to prepare many of these kids for employment, and that is especially true for the lower socioeconomic areas where students with computers at home are rare. All learners should be able to recognize what they need to accomplish, determine whether a computer will help them to do so, and then be able to use the computer as part of the process of accomplishing their task.”1
