It is important to use the GCU library vs. internet search because using the GCU library you have access to over 46,000 full-text journal titles covering every major academic subject, and also receiving quality academic content. Being that information is everywhere on the internet you want to evaluate the accuracy and the reliability of the resources. It would be my job to research and evalutate all internet searches in a proper
In the course study program of the Cornerstone class, I learned how to perform research using the appropriate article research tools. Some of these tools are the school’s library, Google Scholar search engine, and websites that reside in the domain of .Gov, .Edu, .Net. Furthermore, I learned the value of submitting my third draft to E-tutoring, and also use my teacher’s invaluable
Part Two: Explain why academic and professional research must use credible sources and explain the reasons that credible sources are more likely to be found using the online library than using general
Where do you find scholarly articles that you read on a regular basis? Search a scholarly database such as CINAHL, which is available in the CCN online library.
Looking for resources for essays and assignments taught me the necessary skills to find scholarly journals and articles to use as references. Using the UMUC library taught me how to use the boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to find precise information on what my topic was about. In the beginning, I did not know how to research effectively in the library. There were different databases that provided me with the information I needed for research papers, using the advanced search options. The library tutorial discussions in class were also a great help in teaching me with the starting steps. With the steps, it provided me with the knowledge of how to use a library to its full potential. I now have the proper skills and tools to research for future assignments in other courses or classes that I

During college, students should be able to research and analyze their sources. It is an important life skill. By using the ability to research, they can find articles with credible, reliable, and relevant information to get the best and dependable research. People who use these techniques will find each of these components essential to the authenticity of an article. These skills would be able to help students and researchers discover trustworthy and reliable sources. Each of the different components in a quality research makes it solid and dependable. Credibility is how believable or truthful the research, and whether the researchers have the credentials to do research in that area. Reliability is the reputation of the article’s source, and if the authors considered any biases. Relevancy is how current the article is or how important it is now. Students conducting research in college need to be able to critically analyze sources for credibility, relevancy, and reliability in order to determine their usefulness in a research paper.
When the journey of pursuing the process of writing this research paper on “Cathedral” by Raymond Carver began weeks ago, I was overwhelmed and my anxiety kicked in. It had been many years since I last did a research paper. My writing was kind of rusty. I remembered how in the past, the research process was done physically at a library, using index cards to find the sources you wanted. Then, you would have to go to these tall shelves of books to pick out what you were looking for and then go through stacks of books, newspapers, and magazines to search for the information needed. Oh, how things have changed. It is infinitely more efficient to conduct research since the invention of the internet. We’ve become much more resourceful through the use of technology and most of the research is now done online on
The NJCU library database is great for finding reliable information very easily. When I search for articles, I make sure to check the full text and peer-reviewed boxes so that I can access full articles that contain trustworthy information. The librarians are very friendly and always willing to help with research as well.
It is also important that your research topic is in a question not in a statement so that it may eliminate any type of bias and create a more neutral research process. To finalize which research question you will choose, you must ensure that you do pre research to your research topic and make sure it does not have too much or too little amount of sources. Overall, the library meeting was very successful because it taught me how to use the database very clearly, how to create my research question, and how to receive a better sources. All of these new apprehended skills will help me receive better and more reliable
When you think of a researcher you think of a scientist doing an experiment. I feel like that is the same as a research paper just without the experiment. So, in a research paper it’s your own interpretation or evaluation or argument. Meaning, you use everything that you personally know and have researched about that topic. When I am assigned a research paper the first thing I do is look it up online to understand more about it. At that point, I try to figure out what is worth talking about in the paper or figure out what I can argue to get my point across. As for library databases, I never used them once because I use technology. I can give a detailed report on the assignment with the correct amount of research and citations.
The digital library at Ashford University is a place where someone can go and explore a world of valuable information without having to go further than their fingertips. Albert Einstein, on the subject of research, said, “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” While Einstein was referring to a scientist performing an experiment or study, the same idea can be applied to a writer researching for a paper. A paper not built on solid research will be full of fallacies and erroneous information. Readers respect opinions from experts or statistics from high-profile studies. Thus, if a paper is to be credible, it must be founded on solid research. Solid research comes from reliable sources, and reliable sources can come from libraries, peer-reviewed journals, and online searches. Different types of research include books, encyclopedias, and trustworthy scientific or government
You stated in your posting, “ Brandgruwel, Wopereis, and Vermetten (2005) states: not all resources are created equal, and learners must be judicious in their approach to evaluating research. Information literacy requires a learner to identify, understand, and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each source before they can use it.” This statement is absolutely true, because a student of higher education must be able to read through articles and papers and be able to see the strength and weakness of a particular paper and be able to analyze the information to see how this either applies to what they are looking for or be able to identify if it does not. Scholarly research and reading can be time consuming and overbearing at times, because there are often times so
For students to be adequately informed about the value of the university library and resources such as the Internet in information retrieval there must be a careful collaboration between teaching staff and library staff (Kenney, 2007). The focus in this task, of course, is preparing students not just for the immediate research project at hand but rather to prepare them to be life long learners, to prepare them to be successful and productive once they leave the academic environment and take up their chosen careers (Lauer & Yodanis, 2012).
