As growing individuals, we strive to achieve what is considered our personal best and from experience, continue to grow from the motivation that we gain and the obstacles that we may encounter whilst trying to achieve these goals. Over the years many psychological perspectives have been used as evidence to support this idea of striving for goals. One in particular is known as the self-regulation perspective, which emphasizes the relationship between one’s goals and their intentions, which ultimately relate and cause an impact towards one’s behaviour. This perspective also discusses the idea of setting higher goals and how it can lead to a higher standard of success and excellence in whatever task the individual has set out. (Carver & Scheier, 2012) This section of the assignment will be examining the development of one learning goal such as; to communicate and work better with group members and one performance goal; which is to organise study and lecture notes more efficiently in order to have a better study method for exams through the use of such psychological theories, and it’s relating concepts. The first concept within the self-regulation perspective that will be discussed is known as feedback control. As defined by Carver & Scheier (2012), this involves an individuals’ perception of their current behaviour and from this then using it to compare with an intended behaviour through the feedback that they have received from someone else. In life it is important that you remember that you cannot give up on your goals. Accomplishing your goals can improve your personality and lead to a happy life. Goals are never easy to reach but by leaving them behind you are only letting yourself and others down. Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen, shows that it is important to have determination to achieve your goals.
Setting goals for yourself is an important aspect to help achieve success in life. Setting goals not only helps guide you to be successful, but also helps a person believe in themselves
Some people believe that dedication, persistence, and time people can accomplish any goal. Everyone should have goals when striving to achieve a specific task. Goal setting is used by top level athletes, successful business man, and achievers in all fields. A wise athlete once said, “Without time and effort put towards ones goal for the sport, you are nearly wasting your time and your teams time and you will never achieve ones goal for that
If you do not set goals or achievements for yourself then, you will not be successful in life. One major goal that I set for myself is to be elected at the ROTC program at Colts Neck High School. Unfortunately, it will not be an easy goals to achieve. It is going to a long bumpy ride until I reach my destination. However, if I study hard, complete all of my school assignments, and get antoshining grades then, I can find a shortcut to make this ride shorter and maybe even smoother after all. Also, participation is one of the main keys to achieving this goal. I make sure that I participate in class and in after school activities such as track and field and basketball because then my teachers and my coach could recommend me. This single goal persily will overall make me smarter and a hardworking student by the end of the year.
The Theory of Goal Attainment is a middle range theory derived from King’s Conceptual System. The Theory of Goal Attainment focuses on the interactions between the personal, interpersonal, and social systems. Frey et al (2002) describes the central concepts of the theory as “perception, communication, interaction, transaction, self, role, growth and development, stressors/stress, time, and space.” Four specific concepts within the theory; perception,
People need self-motivation to succeed because not every problem can be solved by others, some have to be solved by oneself. When conflicts arise, individuals need to seek out the path of best fit to conquer the issue at hand. Throughout my entire childhood, I aspired to be a great swimmer. When I was a young adolescent, my favorite sport to watch during the Olympics was swimming. How could someone move so fast through the water? The extremely close races and extraordinary comebacks always excited me. I wanted experience the thrill for myself.
Deci and Ryan (1985) developed the self-determination theory to examine the social, psychological, and environmental conditions that are necessary to produce self-motivated behaviors and enhanced performance. The theory has undergone multiple refinements over the years (i.e., Deci, 1975, 1980; Deci & Ryan, 1980, 1985, 1991, 2000, 2008; Ryan & Deci, 2017), but the theory’s central position on the significance of the interaction between the individual
In this world, a lot of people want to become sports players, Musicians. Many people attempt to succeed by creating goals that’s high, but there are risks involved with it that can affect your goal during your voyage. This has been a problem for those who have ended up failing because they tried to reach a goal which is less likely of being accomplished, and the result would affect them. Most people during the Journey might lose hope in their dream because it might seem impossible to meet. Therefore aiming for higher goals can result in more failures than lower goals.

Examining Hattie’s research pertaining to self-regulation was a positive experience because it provided an opportunity to concentrate the groups thinking on research that has been utilized to formulate positive change. Hattie stated, “ Self-regulation is the ability to take specific, purposeful and effective action in service of a goal.” My colleagues and I responded to his research because it is delivered in a clear and concise manner, which can be applied in a practical way. Specifically, Hattie indicated, “Self-regulation hinges on being able to ask and answer three very simple questions, but they are fundamental questions: What is my goal? Where am I now? What do I need to do to get from here to there?” Such, questions remain fundamental
If someone is going to set some goals, why not set them high? That way if you falter in reaching your goals, you are still further ahead than with not having a goal at all. Let me give you an example of my self. I love to run. Well kind of. Particularly running the 400 meter race (for those of you don’t know, that’s one lap around the track). Now if I said I wanted to set a goal of running a 400 in 70 seconds I could do that. I could go and run
2. Self-regulation involves guiding your behavior, thoughts, and feelings in order to obtain goals. Ruth used self-monitoring when she went to the dentist
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy-tale like, we tend to see life through a rose-colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
Self-regulation is an important part of an individual’s everyday life. From the moment a person wakes up until the moment they go to sleep, they are engaging in self-regulatory practices throughout much of their day. These self-regulatory processes are not only conscious decisions that one makes throughout a variety of situations, but can become deeply imbedded in an individual’s way of life. Through a social-cognitive perspective, one may define self-regulation as producing feelings, thoughts, and actions. These are planned and adapted cyclically in order for one to achieve personal goals in a changing social and physical environment (Zimmerman, 2010, as cited in Durand-Bush, McNeill, Harding, & Dobransky, 2015, p. 257). One must constantly modify their actions in order to obtain the desired outcome. Self-regulation involves looking in retrospect at past actions, evaluating them, and then choosing current behavior to be consistent with desires. For some, self-regulatory practices have been built over many years throughout one’s life and continue to grow. The individual learns new knowledge and practices that they can incorporate into their lives. Daily actions are motivated by both internal and external forces. According to Ryan and Deci (2000), there is a very important difference between intrinsic and extrinsic kinds of motivation. Intrinsic motivation entails doing something because it is essentially interesting or enjoyable, while extrinsic motivation entails doing
In preparation of this assignment I was able to reflect on not only what I’ve learned in the past several weeks but also how and if im applied the knowledge i'm retaining. The first practice that I found effective is self-actualization. Self-actualization is the willingness to persistently try to improve oneself and engage in the pursuit of personally relevant and meaningful objectives that lead to a rich and enjoyable life. This has been a practice for me that I’ve consistently used for every area of planning. In this semester I’ve been able to use this strategically in my english course. When it comes to my english class I have an essay a week, with ministry, work and three other courses I have to set goals in which I accomplish portions
