The roles of teachers
I believe teachers play multiple roles that extend beyond the classroom. They take classes continuously, attend professional development sessions, and research new approaches to learning on their own time. These are done with the purpose of expanding their knowledge in teaching and to ensure that the school day runs smoothly for the entire class. For example, Mrs. Shuffield spend her breaks researching videos to enhance her writing and science lessons. This week, she presented a rap video on photosynthesis to help students memorize facts about it. The children really enjoyed it and I could hear them singing it as they left the classroom.
Teachers act as role models to their students in hopes of inspiring them to greatness. As a future educator, I may be the only person in my students’ lives who teaches them the importance of hard work and good character. This is why it’s essential for me to build a positive rapport with every child. I want to teach them to be caring and compassionate members of society. By being a moral teacher, I will positively impact the moral development of my students. My goal is to help each student learn to be a better version of themselves by the time they leave my classroom.
I believe successful teachers develop a strong partnership with students’ parents. Having clear communication with parents can play a significant role in a child’s education. It is also the best way to avoid misunderstandings from the beginning of
Teachers should be continually learning and assessing their teaching practices through reflection and collaboration with other teachers. It is the role of the teacher to use these teaching practices to develop in students the abilities and skills that will remain with them throughout life. Teachers should be role models for their students, to provide encouragement and praise, reassuring their students that they can achieve their dreams and reach their goals. Teaching should not only focus on academics but it should also focus on character education. Students need to be prepared to enter into their community and have the ability to interact with people from different backgrounds, cultures, religious backgrounds, social status, and values. It is important that teachers work with students to help them learn the skills of cooperation, patience, communication, empathy, understanding and teamwork, these skills are extremely important for the successful integration into further education, the workforce, family life and other social interactions. Teachers can achieve this through focusing on and encouraging group work, peer tutoring as well as games and activities that focus on social behaviors.
Many students come to school without a solid moral and ethical foundation because it has not been a priority at home. The lack thereof must not be used as an excuse. Educators must assume the responsibility to be effective caregivers, moral models, and ethical mentors. Successful character education is an integral part of a school’s culture, most effective when the virtues are integrated into the academic curriculum (Dean, 2014).
Teaching is highly dependent on communication. This is made clear by Simonds and Cooper (2014) suggesting that teaching and learning is impossible without communicating, communication is inevitable in an educational environment. Outstanding teachers display effective communication, it is the basis of their teaching reputation as well as the basis of their rapport with students, parents, colleagues and others (Simonds and Cooper, 2014). “3.5 Use effective classroom communication” and “7.3 Engage with the parents/carers” (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), 2014) the two standards listed require the effective implementation of communication, highlighting that it is impossible to be a successful teacher in and out
My role as a teacher is to provide activities that are mentally stimulating and that encourage personal growth. It is my responsibility to support and encourage my students as they discover themselves and their burgeoning feelings.
On the days that i was observing, 3 children Sam and Tom were playing with the number blocks and they were just talking about what type of bed they sleep in, and Sam said that he sleeps on a big bed and Tom was telling him no you sleep on a baby bed because you are younger. So they started to argue about it then a teacher step in just to check in with them. She gave them space to tell their story and guide to resolve the problem. Sam and Tom talked about it, after that they start playing with each other again. The role of the teachers is important in the classroom, despite the fact that they are there to “teach”, but instead of being teachers they act as a guide to help their students to increase their developmental skills. The teachers would participate during dramatic play or other activities in order to engage conversation and help them develop the social skill with peers and
understand that an effective teacher goes above the call of duty to do what is best for his/her students. Furthermore, I understand that the school policies for which I become employed will detail various procedures that should be use to communicate with parents. I believe it is important to create a clear line of communication between students and the teacher, as well as with the parents and the teacher. I understand that with the many roles an effective teacher holds in the classroom,
Teachers create a caring community of learners by respecting each child by making sure each child understands they are valued and respected. By feeling respected, will respect their peers, which is an important trait to obtain. Teachers also ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Whether this is monitoring them in the classroom or keeping them physically
It is important “to prepare students to be ethical, engaged citizens and teachers must give meaningful opportunities to practice freedom” (Koonce, 2016 pg. 78). As educators, it is best to assist students to become the best they could be. Teaching good character every day in the classroom can assist in good behavior, trusting relationships, and learning empathy and compassion in others (Bietz, 2012).
This approach will allow students to fully understand the dynamic roles between the teacher and student. The skills educators must develop will assist the student’s role into becoming appreciative because they must consider teaching to be a lifestyle, not just a paycheck. A teacher's goal should be a trusted profession with the education of a young mind and must provide a quality education to all. Teachers should equip their students the necessary tools for different levels of knowledge and understanding, and for success in life. I think it is important for effective learning and teaching to first establish a mutually respectful honest relationship with students. Communication and honesty should become the first or highest priority and put into the method of teaching. Teamwork should also be put into demonstration in the classroom in order for students to prepare for adult interaction in the future.
As a teacher, I want to make an impact on someone’s life. I know this will be a huge accomplishment, and I will get to experience this everyday. On an ordinary day, I will teach lessons on math, English and social studies, but I will also serve as a role model for my students. I will live my life in a positive manner and show my students that through hard work, success can happen. In addition, I will create meaningful lessons that address many different learning styles in the classroom. I know that I will have students with diverse learning styles, and I want to create lessons that can highlight their strengths.
Unfortunately, as educators we often find ourselves thinking, “there is only some much we can do”. Although educators are with the student’s the majority of their days and can offer guidance and resources to parents, there does come a time that collaboration between the teacher and parent is necessary. The key to a successful collaboration is an open communication with frequent interactions. Meaning, simply greeting parents every
I think here in the United States the roles of teachers and students have not changed much over the years. Teachers lead the class and keep order and students are there to learn and grow. What’s different is the perception of how this is done. Technology is drastically changing how teachers teach and students learn.
Communication is one of the most important factor which should be developed in between one or two. As apprehension develops between parent and the teacher, the parent will be most informed about his or her child. (Sahagun, 2015)
In their everyday work teachers communicate with a wide range of school personnel as well as families who cannot speak English or speak little, families living in poverty, single-parent families, families who have different expectations for their children than school personnel and families in which one or more members has a disability. Therefore it is necessary that teachers communicate effectively in order to meet the needs of a diverse school population. Strong communication skills are fundamental in establishing partnership with parents to support student learning, promote equality through shared decision making and build a sense of community between school and home. Effective parent-teacher communication requires important interpersonal skills on the part of the teacher, tactfulness, providing information truthfully and openly, building trust and rapport through regular contact and using clarifying statements to ensure an accurate understanding of parental views. Use of everyday language, a positive tone and statements when discussing poor performance or challenging situations encourages conversation. Also, teacher who treats parents with respect and develops a “personal touch” in their communication style achieves enhanced quality of parent-teacher
The wide range of responsibilities conducted by teacher to help to learn, share and develop knowledge and skills. Show or tell how its being done, give instructions, guide and train are the main aims of a teacher.
