Whilst ‘misconception’ is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as ‘a view or opinion that is incorrect because based on faulty thinking or understanding’, they can also be useful to teachers, as it enables us to assess what the children already understand. This can them inform their planning of how to carry out the next useful steps in their learning, by purposefully and directly addressing these naive ideas, to break down barriers in the children’s learning and help them flourish. Children gather pieces of information during their childhood, which may be wrongly pieced together or misunderstood, leading to distorted knowledge or ideas. Within the topic of Functioning of Organisms, I have found some misconceptions relating to the sub-topics of nutrition, plants and bacteria and have addressed how I, as a teacher, would begin to correct them.
One common misconception in primary science, relating to the topic of nutrition is that all fat is bad for humans when it is consumed. This is found in children of all ages, as we are taught from a very young age that eating foods with high levels of fat is always bad for our health, as we are overwhelmed by the media and other messages telling us that eating fatty foods will lead to high levels of obesity, which leads to other health issues such as heart disease and arthritis. The prevalence of this has driven the population to believe that any intake of fat is bad for us, but this is not the case. As a discovered in ‘Misconceptions in

Change is good, this is something that has often been said throughout history, the mind is an open book ready to consume additional information. During the last eight weeks of class there has been many things that Foundation of Nutrition, SPHE 395, has highlighted for the students, in order to assist them in fine tuning their craft in the sports and health industry. There where numerous area that where focused on over the last eight weeks. During part two of this final assignment there we were asked to state five things that we learned during the eight weeks of learning. One of things that I must say is the fact that I know little or nothing about Nutrion before this class, but during the course there were several that would help me during my career. The five area that where important to my learning where the highlighting of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, maternal nutrition for infants, and the benefits of alcohol. After the review of this information there will be detailed concluding thoughts what I think of the class after the concluding week.
Many Americans today do not track their calories or pay attention to what they are eating. As they fail to do so, they also fail to analyze what nutrients, food groups, and physically activity they receive adequately and which they lack. As I have tracked foods and beverages that I have consumed, I have been able to collect data about which food groups/nutrients I consume adequately, where the majority of my calories come from, and how my physical activity compares to that recommended.

1) I really like your essay, I never had a clue that the children in Colombia were died because of malnutrition. The introduction is good, but It need to be a little stronger. The background info about the topic still need more information. Since the essay still needs more information you may need to add more efforts, explain more about how to help this situation. Since you only have a part of it it’s hard to tell in the last paragraph was going to be your conclusion. 2) On the thesis statement, you may want to make it stronger for example: The study was conducted during the year??? …. Describe the prevalence of malnutrition number of children between the ages???? …. What I’m trying to tell you is to find a web, or phrase that would make
Nutrition is a complex aspect that has many working parts. Nutrition has to do with being healthy, fit, safe, and having a balanced diet. Nutrition starts at conception and does not stop from there. It is very important for people to be aware of different aspects that may affect their overall nutrition. We will discuss how my overall nutrition has been developed and formed since my birth throughout my entire life.
The lesson that was completed in stage three directly aligns with the Common CoreStandards and are things that should be accomplished at the fourth-grade level. The concepts that were taught were all factors that would help illustrate the bigger picture to students so they could understand the logic behind this lesson.By the fourth grade, students need to have a good grasp on nutrition. They need to understand why healthy eating is important and ways they can achieve that. They are beginning to think for themselves and need to know that important choices with food is imperative for their health. By having them complete pamphlets that would be distributed, they need to understand what they are promoting. By having them go through the different steps that were in stage three, they were able to gather that information and help them boost their understanding of nutrition and healthy foods. Throughout stage three, technology was used in planning and helping the students achieve their learning goals. The first example of the lesson accomplishing this was when the students had to watch the nutrition video on the computer on the first day of the lesson. This was an informative video that was age appropriate. I think that without the students watching this video they would have had a difficult time reaching their goals with this lesson and future, related lessons. By having the students view this video it helped them connect the content and specific learning goals. They were
In today’s session, PO learned about how drugs and alcohol can disrupt the normal functioning of the body and how better nutrition can help diminish some of these biochemical and digestive problems.
This past January, I was granted the opportunity to travel to Accra, Ghana for ten days. I took a course related to Global Issues in Nutrition and was able to learn about malnutrition from a global perspective. Not only was I able to learn about nutrition and nutrition-related diseases during the class, but I was able to grasp the concept of malnutrition by engaging with the subject through site visits to hospitals and one-on-one personal interactions. The knowledge I gained from the amazing faculty at the NYU Accra site was invaluable, and after spending 10 days in Accra, I knew that I wanted to return for a longer stay. In addition, the warmth of the people, from the staff that always greeted me with a smile, to the friendly faces I encountered on the streets of Accra, was invitation enough for me to return.
Good health comes only from the individual's commitment to a good nutrition. Proper and correct nutrition is the most effective way to eliminate and prevent diseases that are widespread all over the world and in our environment. For a great deal of mental and physical health, On all nutrients that provide the body with the energy needed, including vitamins of all kinds, sugars, proteins and fats, and must contain the meal in the content of a large proportion of mineral salts and the right way is balanced nutrition with no approach to meals Ready-preserved, especially fast food such as hamburgers and hot dogs, keeping Aftrq such meals have a negative effect on the content of vitamins and minerals and some of the methods and means of conservation using chemicals that alter the natural construction of these food items.
Nutrition, was the topic for Unit 2 and I must admit, it was pretty interesting. I thought that this unit was going to be more of taking notes, but no it was more of learning how to eat healthier, how having a bad habit of eating bad foods too much can be belligerent to our own lives. Exercising is a very important thing to do, at least 30 minutes-1 hour can help improve our personal health. Also I learned that being overweight, or obese can be a cause of many deaths around the world, and especially today, since we like bigger stuff, we want the bigger stuff. I also learned that since not only the U.S is the one with health problems, their is more countries with this problem, and we have to watch what we eat on a daily basis, since we can get diabetes, cholesterol, or any type of harmful diseases. I also learned how to work better with a group of people, and having to be assigned a job within the group, I know that working in a group will take commitment, and working with others will make you make time to work with your group, so everything can go well once you go present. I was happy to know that my group would do their work, and that we knew what to say when the time came to present.
There was a tremendous amount of effort that went in to the process of carrying out my behavior change in a successful manor. I had to rely on sheer dedication, will power and trust in appropriate programing in order to continuously make progress. I have found that there is no substitute for being willing to do little tasks consistently, for these tasks later yield large results. To ensure that I was going to maximize my potential of reaching my goal of gaining 2- 3.5 lbs. of lean body mass, then I was going to need to have a detailed plan from the beginning. In order to provide adequate programing, I decided to seek knowledge from an experienced personal trainer. I did not have to go far as my mother has over 25 years of experience in the fitness world, and specifically personal training. Together we came up with a program that would allow for maximum muscular hypertrophy and strength increase, by carefully delegating the stimulation of training sessions and appropriate recovery. I then evaluated what I was going to need to consume in regards of nutrition. Assessing the appropriate amount of each nutrient was another key factor that I had to evaluate and then enforce into my daily life. Through these implementations there was a clear roadmap that would guide me to the end result I was seeking.
Simply put, I enrolled in this course to improve my mental and physical health. Mentally, I hoped to improve my self-image and reduce stress so that I could have a healthy relationship with my body and so that I could increase my day-to-day effectiveness. Physically, I wanted to be able to regain control of my slipping health from my health condition and aimed to establish a fundamental understanding of nutrition before I must start preparing my own meals next year. I believe that I was able to make progress towards both of these objectives with my Living Well Project goal.
