The USO was established in 1941 by Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the onset of World War II. He asked for private rather than government organizations to handle the entertainment of the military members and their families. This resulted in six civilian agencies answering the call, which resulted in the founding of the USO. The USO is not a government-run organization, but rather a privately funded, nonprofit organization that is chartered by Congress and operates by donations, grants, and private contributions. The organization’s primary mission is to boost the morale and emotional state of American military troops and their families by providing services, recreation, and entertainment. In its nearly seventy-five years of existence,
The military has been instrumental in the protection and development of U.S interests around the world. From the Revolutionary War, which established the United States as a nation, through the World Wars, which set up the U.S as one of the world super powers, to its current war on terror, the military has helped and protected U.S. interests around the world. During all these wars American soldiers have proudly served their country. Because of these wars America is famous throughout the world for military power and its protection of freedom in the world. Today the U.S is an international symbol of wealth and power; it has the largest Gross Domestic Product in the world as well as the strongest military. Yet even America falls prey to a

Presidents after Franklin D. Roosevelt have viewed the Executive Branch as having supreme authority in foreign policy. George W. Bush justified the war on terror, Iraq, and Afghanistan that skirted congressional requirements by citing the Constitution. Bush believed that he was allowed to take these actions since he was “Commander in Chief” and had a duty to protect American. Bill Clinton used the same justification for his ordering of bombings in Afghanistan, and Sudan. I believe congress needs to lessen the power of the Executive branch on foreign policy. I firmly believe that President’s should be required to receive a declaration of war before they engage forces so America knows that congress has agreed too. The Supreme Court has weighed on the role of Legislative and Executive branch in foreign policy and sided on both sides.
The VFW is an establishment dedicated to helping veterans across the United States. According to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (2016), the VFW was founded when veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection wanted to have an organization to care for veterans. In the aftermath of the wars, veterans were returning home to nothing. Several were wounded, whether it was physical or mental, and the government would not help them. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was established to ensure that veterans received the respect, rights, and care that they deserved for fighting for their country. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (2016) website states that the first chapters began in Ohio, Colorado, and Pennsylvania, before spreading nationwide. Today, over 100 years later, the VFW now has a membership of 1.7 million veterans and has 6,651 posts
On December 20, 1860, just a little over a month after the election of Abraham Lincoln, South Carolina seceded the union. Becoming the first state ever to do so, and this action set the example for similar results to happen in fellow slave holding states; throughout the beginning of 1861. Although South Carolina had come very close to secession before, first during the nullification crisis of 1832, and again at the State Convention of 1852, it would ultimately come to a breaking point after the of Election of 1860. Though the full severity of this movement was played down at first in Northern newspapers at first, the real gravity of the situation would soon be felt throughout the Union. This election became the last straw in a series of

The Military and Veteran Support programs help veterans and active duty service men and women and their families in many different areas. On November 11, 2011, Target brought together more than 1500 team members and volunteers for a day of service and remembrance. Each team worked toward the same goal – to build an America where every returning veteran can serve again as a citizen leader, and where together we honor the fallen by living their values through service (Target). Target sponsors the Military Child Education Coalition Annual Conference, where educators, senior military leaders, corporate leaders and military family members share knowledge and inspiration to support military-connected children. Target also proudly partners with Our Military Kids, providing grants to children of deployed and
United Services Automobile Association (USAA) was founded with a simple mission. That mission was to provide auto insurance coverage for its initial group of investors. These investors were all military officers who found that auto insurance was too expensive and difficult to obtain due to their high-risk occupations. Membership was initially restricted to active duty military officers. Over the years, eligibility has been expanded to include active duty and retired military personnel regardless of rank or branch of service and their families.
In other words, the Army’s mission is to deploy when needed and to win in combat in support of the interests of the United States. It conducts training and operations in every part of the world with 520,000 active duty Soldiers in 223 occupational specialties or jobs. The mission seems relatively simple but recruiting Soldiers to fulfill this mission and retaining them is much more difficult than one would realize. I will present a few of the benefits in the Army’s EVP that motivate Soldiers to “be the best they can be” to make America and the world a better place.
So, we carry on a tradition first defined in the earliest years of the American Army’s history.
Be all you can be. An Army of one. These two phrases are recognized by almost everyone. The United States Army is one of three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) that make up the Department of Defense. The organization holds a strong set of core values. Each soldier is also required to instill that same set of values and beliefs. The Seven Core Army Values define what being a soldier is about. These values include Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. Soldiers are expected to not only know the meaning of these words, but to live up to them every day.
The Organization of American States is the world’s oldest regional organization, having roots as far back as the 1826 Congress of Panama (United States Permanent Mission, n.d.). The Charter of the OAS was signed in 1948 by 21 member states and entered into force by December 1951, officially creating the Organization of American States. Today, 35 independent countries of the America have ratified the Charter and belong to the Organization, and over 68 other states, as well as the European Union, have been granted permanent observer status. The primary focus of the Organization, as stipulated in Article 1 of the Charter, is to achieve among its member states “an order of peace and justice, to promote their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration, and to defend their sovereignty, their territorial integrity, and their independence” (Charter of the Organization of American States, 1967). While trade is not one of the Organization’s original four main pillars (those being democracy, human rights, security, and development), in recent years, more emphasis has been placed on trade.
