There are many different management theories and principles that can be used to help run a business successfully. Management theories are implemented to help increase organizational productivity and service quality. They are used as a guide to enable a manager to run himself, his business and its employees. A manager will not just use one theory or concept when implementing strategies in the workplace; they can commonly use a combination of a number of theories, depending on the workplace, purpose and workforce. Management theories have evolved over time, and the theories can be classified into these categories, classical, scientific, human relations, modern and contingency. Early contributors to management theories were most commonly practising managers or social scientists such as Taylor, Fayol, Mayo and McGregor. More common theorists tend to be academics or management consultants like Maslow and Drucker. Throughout the years these principles have been adapted to form the main principles of management:-
• Forecasting
• Planning
• Organising
• Motivating
• Controlling
• Co-ordinating
• Communicating
