They are quiet, accelerate fast and are marketed as producing “zero emission”. Since the beginning of the decade the electric cars became more and more affordable and therefore are starting to be more common on Quebec’s road as well as in the rest of the world. To a lot of people it is like a dream coming true in which they finally free themself from the dreaded price fluctuation of petrol that has been giving them nightmares while robbing so much of their hard earned money for so long. As the technology develops a growing number of people are ready to bet that the electric car is the car of the future that will make us save both save money and resources while being environmentally friendly. Although the electric vehicle is a great …show more content…
These recent major innovations are what made it possible to produce on a large scale electric vehicle capable to travel relatively long distances at a more affordable price thus appealing to a much bigger part of the population.
There is however, one main drawback to the electric car, which probably contributes a lot to why the sale of EV still represents such a small percentage of the global market. It is the short range of the battery combined with the slow recharge time. For instance, the 2014 Nissan Leaf, which is one of the most sold EV model up to now has a range of up to 135 km. This range is greatly affected by the outside temperature which is a major concern in a country like Canada were winter are long and cold. Once it is empty, it takes 8 hours to be charged from empty with a 240 volt outlet and even longer with a 120 volt. Although this time can be greatly reduced to 30 minutes for an 80% charge with the use of a fast charging station, it is still much longer than the average 5 minutes that it takes to refuel a conventional vehicle. Moreover this type of station is not yet common, there i about 800 stations serving the whole province. Its is also important to keep in mind that to be able to use a fast charging station, a special adaptor is required which is not offered on all base models of EV’s. Even though the capacity of the battery is
Electric cars vary from the average car you see on a day-to-day basis, this specific type of car is starting to make more appearances in the world due to their efficiency to the atmosphere. What makes an electric car stand out is that they are propelled and powered by an electric motor. The way this specific type of car functions is that it uses electrical energy that is stored in rechargeable batteries either under the hood or in the truck. What makes electric cars unique is the level of silent while being driven on the road rather than your standard gasoline engines. Of course, with everything, there will be a downside to it. Recharging an electric car can take a long time, sometimes up to hours which is an enormous difference than filling
The world produces around 85 million barrels of oil each day. About a quarter of that percentage goes to the United States of America, which is used up mostly by means of transportations. Most people get around from place to place using a car, a car that is powered by fuel. Everywhere one goes driving, they will eventually run into a gas station but not a charging station for electric cars. Regular cars, burn off fuel that produce emissions (carbon, nitrogen, sulfur) that pollute and harm the environment. Although, there are some positives about switching there are also some problems that could appear but could be fixed. Electric cars have the potential to reduce the amount of pollution in the environment, boost the national economy and help
Ever since their invention, cars have been powered by gasoline. Over the years as gas prices fluctuated and supplies continue to dwindle, motorists have started looking for a more reliable and cost effective alternative. As a result car companies have begun producing a new type of car to meet the demands of consumers; the electric car. In recent years the electric car has been a source of great controversy, some seeing it as the future of personal transportation, while others see it as the inefficient and unreliable dream of environmentalists. Currently, the United States has been supporting this growth and development of electric cars. The U.S is showing this support by providing tax benefits to consumers who purchase electric vehicles, along with providing government subsidies to companies such as Tesla who are fueling the growth of these electric cars. The United States should continue to promote the use and development of electric cars because they are beneficial to consumers, the economy, and the environment. The promotion of these electric cars will also lead to the continuing developments of technology. These improvements to technology will only further benefit society in the United States.
In light of the constant rises in petroleum prices, climate changes and an economy recovering from the effects of the recent economic downturn, consumers have started to reconsider the usage of electric cars (Global EV Outlook, 2013). Electric Vehicles [EV] have been around since the 1830s, yet it is only recently that countries have experienced an increase in their production thus redefining tomorrow’s automobile and transportation industry. This year, the global production of EV is predicted to rise by 67% (IHS, 2014).
Looking around, you may notice the sudden surge of sustainable engineering all around you. From new LED light bulbs, to many different kinds of robots this epidemic is sweeping the world more and more. While we are slowly shifting towards new technologies, there is one that has gained extreme popularity over the past couple of years. It is electric cars. Going a few years back to 2010 there were a few companies introducing their first models of electric cars, but almost no one was interested in buying them, and some people even hated the idea of driving one. Since then many aspects have changed and electromobility has become one of the most debated topics in car industry. So what are advantages and disadvantages and why are they so popular now?
Tesla electric vehicles from Tesla Motors are gaining a reputation as the cars of the future. These models are not only known for their luxury features, acceleration, power, and nearly silent electric engines, but also for their green appeal. Individuals who can afford the hefty price tag are purchasing these vehicles because they are classy, fun to drive, and better for the environment than the standard gasoline car. Tesla Motors are leading the way in innovation in the American car industry with their Tesla electric models.
The United States of America is one of the biggest automobile markets in the world. This trend has also created awareness for environmentalist to bring attention to rising level of pollution and emission within the cities and metropolis. As response, the U.S. Government is encouraging the automobile manufacturers to produce clean and renewable alternative vehicles that will drastically reduce pollution and emission. Subsequently, the automobile industry has witnessed a gradual introduction of environmental friendly vehicles that use clean and renewable energy to encourage less pollution and safer environment. The manufactures of these vehicles have introduced into the market three categories of electric passenger car
After the success of electric cars in the West, manufacturers from around the globe are entering into this business. With more players in the market, the competition is expected to be intense.
Electric cars are vehicles, which, instead of internal combustion engines, are driven by electric motors and controllers. They have proved to be a good substitute for conventional vehicles and are considered as a revolutionary innovation designed to protect the earth from the damaging effects of global warming, as they work on the electricity supplying the integrated rechargeable battery that can be easily recharged. Compared to traditional means of transport, electric vehicles seem to be more viable and environmentally friendly because they do not need oil or other fossil fuels as an energy source but the high cost of such a car and other important issues of exploitation discussed in this paper make their use very doubtful comparing to the usual cars.
Electric vehicles (EV’s) are better because they do not run on fossil fuels, and cause very little pollution, but those are not the only things that make EV’s better than gasoline run vehicles. By purchasing an electric car consumers can save hundreds of dollars each year throughout the long-lasting lifetime of an electric vehicle while helping the environment. Electric vehicles are more efficient than gas run vehicles, safer for the environment, and EV’s cost less than other fuel powered vehicles.
One driving force of change is technology. The automobile industry is constantly focusing on technology in order to make themselves and their cars better. They constantly compete to be the “first” one to have the newest and best idea. One of these ideas is an electric vehicle. GM, Ford, and Toyota all have electric automobiles. GM has the Chevy Volt. Volt One of Ford’s electric cars is the Electric Ranger. Ranger Toyota had the Rav4 EV, but due to discouraging sales it stopped production. “Toyota remains committed to developing an "Eco Vehicle," one that will have a minimal impact on the environment.” Rav4 One purpose of the electric automobiles is to have the ability to drive to work using only electricity. Currently during longer trips you would have to use a combination of electric and gasoline power. Electric Car
A hundred years ago nobody believed electric cars could exist. Now we are in 2016, and everyone in the world is thinking about how much technology has developed. We now have electric cars and no one believed that these methods of transportation would have been possible years ago. Now people look to these alternatives when they want to buy a car. Some people believe that electric cars are the best and will be the future, however these cars have more cons than pros (Hasebe and Satoru 2).
The electric vehicle market offering the first all-electric mass-produced car made its appearance in Canada in 2011 with the Nissan Leaf . Quebec’s electric vehicle market is relatively young as well and regroups only a few leading and innovative firms of the industry. In 2014, only 2 835 Quebecers were owners of an electric vehicle , which is less than 0.04% of the population. The purchase price of electric vehicles is much higher than gasoline vehicles, therefore people who purchase electric vehicles tend to have higher income and be concentrated in particular neighborhoods. In addition, another important factor in vehicle choice these days is their repercussions on the environment. Some consumers are concerned with environmental degradation, and are motivated to reduce carbon emissions and its impact on the environment, therefore they purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles. A recent estimate states that the industry is booming; on average, three to four electrical cars are estimated to be sold every day in the province of Quebec.
In the market today, there are some factors that can pose a problem to all the market players’ including the Model S. The idea of fully electric vehicles is still a new idea in the eyes of consumers. The major concern for the market would be the location and proximity of charging stations for the vehicles. Major cities are starting to increase the amounts that are located within them, but are still not as readily
The steady increase in electric vehicles over the past 10 years is a result of gasoline scarcity. Many believe this reason plus environmental factors are what forced scientist to develop an alternative. The idea of a vehicle running off of electricity without a combustion engine sounds very extreme and futuristic. The majority of people fail to realize the electric car was originally introduced in the late 1800’s, but was eventually put to rest with the conveniences of gasoline power. The two currently competing sources of automobile energy have already duked it out about a century ago, and the once defeated electric car is off the mat for round 2. As described in Technologies Tortoise and Hare (2000DATE?) “It is a dynamic process of competing strategies and, for the automotive industry, a very traumatic even in a vital historical drama.”
