Tick Tock. What Is Life Like After 3PM
Harrison, NJ--There are many students that participate in extracurricular activities including sports, theatre, or band. Whether it is to look more appealing towards colleges or to explore their interests, students can further develop diligence, intelligence, teamwork, and social skills through joining after school programs.
Recently, researchers have conducted a study in the cafeteria of Harrison High School for three lunch periods to identify the amount of students participating in extracurricular activities. According to a survey of 80 students, about three-forths of students-- 73 percent—do participate in after-school programs. Given that not all the students in Harrison High were surveyed, there is
When most people think of band, football, photography, and chess club they do not believe that these programs will teach more than how to throw a ball or how to play B flat on an instrument, but that is untrue. There have been many studies done on the effectiveness extracurricular activities (ECAs) have on students, and how these activities produce miraculous outcomes and can be the foundation for the academic excellence of a student. Taxes are so high in our country, and many schools have cut after school programs because of budget expenses, which students will benefit immensely from ECAs throughout their lives because it raises the graduation rate, broadens student’s
Before I discuss why extracurricular activities should be a high priority in school funding, it is vital to understand what is being done and what could be done to achieve these results. One major way to certify that these organizations
Since Early College High School was founded in the year 2006, the school and its students have always been at disadvantage. The school has lacked several opportunities such sports, scholarship opportunities, etc. However, a topic that has been the spotlight of discussion amongst students over the course of eleven years has been the lack of extracurricular activities. This problem does not only affect students, but it rather affects faculty members as well. Although there has been a slow but gradual increase in solving this problem, this change has come forth at a lengthy rate. It has been 11 years since change has been prompted, and although the current students are benefiting from this change, there have been several generations of
Extracurricular activities are considered an important part of school life at OSHS because of the positive qualities gained from
Extracurricular activities are a demention of schooling that can be negatively influenced by year-round schooling. Most students are involved in extracurricular activities during the Summer, when they have more free time. Yet, thanks to the year-round calender, children do not have the opportunities to perform these extracurricular tasks. Students should be able to enjoy themselves just as much as they should be able to get an education. Also, teachers managing extracurricular activities observed similar difficulties adapting these actvities into the year-round schedule, just
Participation in extracurricular activities is considered an important part of a pupil's scholastic life. Activities include marching band, choir, robotics, Yearbook, Yes Club, and Cheerleading.
Extra curricular activities show how active a student is involved with his or her community.
Schools that have implemented after-school programs have shown to be a very favorable decision for children and have displayed results of having greater scoring on tests and exams rather than schools that have not implemented these programs. After-school programs have improved scores for individuals and it has reflected on the school, making the entire school’s average look better as a whole. According to Barnett, a school that he personally researched himself, went from an F average for two years to a B average in one year. This shows that they did not have a good grade reflection before they made the decision of making the addition of after-school activities. (Barnett 8). Since this specific school has gone from an F to a B average, it makes the school look a lot better. This does not mean visually appealing, it means that the school looks as if they are a better place for learning and they can

Throughout my time in high school, I have been involved in numerous extracurricular activities. I have been involved in band, choir, golf, speech, theater, Student Council, quiz bowl, and National Honor Society. Though my participation in all of these, I have learned where my skills and interests are strongest.
Imagine what the world would be like if there were not extracurricular activities such as sports, student government, and other organizations. For example one such organization is the Boy Scouts which has produced many American leaders such as Gerald Ford, Donald Rumsfeld, and Robert Gates. That is just one organization that I would count as an extracurricular, just imagine what the world would be like if extracurriculars like sports teams, student government and other organizations did not exist. Sports and extracurriculars are important in the fact that they develop important intangibles, enable students to get jobs, and produce morally straight individuals.
The findings from this study on extra-curricular activities supporting academic success in denominational schools stand in contention with the study done by Worrell and Bucknavage (2004). Both findings revealed that the tremendous majority of students in denominational schools participate in extra-curricular activities. This study found extra-curricular activities as a factor leading to greater academic achievement in students whereas, Worrell and Bucknavage (2004) did not discover such links. This is so because in this study only the opinion from the students on the notion of participation in extra-curricular activities contributing to academic success was asked, Worrell and Bucknavage (2004) however was relating the perceived academic achievement of the students to 19 specific extra-curricular activities only leading to disparities in results.
Using a quantitative survey (see appendix), the impact of school funding in high schools will be assessed to acknowledge the association between funding and graduation rates as well as funding and extracurricular activities. This also allows for a better understanding between extracurricular activities and student
