Question One: The study aims to: investigate the effect of the construction of the multibillion-dollar cruise ship terminal, resort, residential development and casino on tourism on the Gold Coast; to examine the effect of the project on the locals’ access to Broadwater, waterways and whether there will be an effect on water quality and to determine whether the project will result into dumping of sewage, grey water or foodstuffs in the terminal. After the Queensland Government had called for the construction of a multibillion-dollar cruise ship terminal, resort, residential development and casino on its Gold Coast,

In this case, the observation may be the construction of the multibillion-dollar integrated cruise ship terminal and its associated structures in Broadway. Another observation can be the fact that there are complaints from the locals that the project was bound to deny them access to the waterway. Next, the researcher observes the trend of the phenomenon under study (Saunders & Lewis, 2012). The next strategy will be generating a hypothesis. In this case, the researcher may develop a hypothesis that states: The completion of the project will boost Australia’s tourism industry. Lastly, the researcher comes up with a theory after making all the necessary conclusions. For instance, in the event that the completion of the project boosted the tourism industry, the researcher may come up with a related theory that states: Development of an integrated cruise ship terminal ultimately boosts the tourism industry. Observation is the best data collection method and technique that best suits the research. This is because the researcher simply observes ongoing behavior in Broadway. The efficiency of the method arises as a result of the fact that all the topics of study do not need the interaction of the researcher with respondents. For instance, the researcher will simply stay in Broadway and observe whether the completion of the project will boost the tourism industry. The observation can be made by observing the number
The investment opportunities for Barangaroo will attract people globally, nationally and locally. It will reassert Sydney’s position on a worldwide scale by making Sydney thrive and boost its tourism industry. This multifaceted site will bring a greater desire to come to Sydney’s central business district. Barangaroo is predicted to generate around $2 billion every year to contribute to the NSW economy. The estimated finishing date of the site will be around
Warrnambool is known for it’s many diverse areas of coastline with many unique beaches; this then brings in various groups of people and tourists in the interest of seeing the beaches or for recreational water activities to Warrnambool. This tourism is positive for Warrnambool economically, but can place a negative effect on the beach environment and the ecosystem.
Data collection methods are the third process. Data can be collected in many ways such as: observation, surveys, focus groups, and reanalysis of existing data, questionnaires, and interviews (Hagan, 2010, p. 19). Data collection is a vital portion of any kind of research. Inaccurate data collection will affect the results of a study and inevitably lead to invalid results.
The resort is saddled with dangerous risks for the gamblers and residents, the social implications of which were discussed, economically. People in social housing can’t afford to stay in the area, and regular people can’t afford to live, shop or eat there either, due to the catering to wealthy customers. Furthermore, the Australian government has waived penalty rates - people who used to be paid for weekend work to compensate for the lack of time off are now poorer and worse off, which leads to even less of a diverse community around the harbour. Alternatively, the lack of lock-out laws bringing more people to the area than locals could be seen in a positive light. According to Crown Resorts Limited Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2013, in reaction to the Melbourne resort, Crown Resorts graduated over 6 000 apprentices and trainees, provided employment for 15 000 people and invested $2.7 billion in tourism. Combined with the tax revenue from gamblers’ lost money, the resort would boost Australia’s economy substantially and increase tourism in Sydney. However, it does not specify if these apprentices’ skills could be useful in life apart from how they are used in a casino, or how much of this money will go towards the betterment of Australia and not towards already multi-millionaires’
Secondly we want to do an observational study of the city. We will look into five ways to conduct an observational study; natural vs. contrived settings, disguised vs. non-disguised observation, human vs. mechanical observation, direct vs. indirect observation, and structured vs. non-structured (Parasuraman, 1991). We believe each of these five methods is essential to truly understand our fans and their behaviour.
Using this type of research method, I can understand what I would have used other type of research method Taylor et al (1995) ‘‘argued that participant observation offers the best opportunity to discover how people see the world in which they live. It also provides the kind of insight, fresh information and new directions for research which are less likely to come from other methods. ’’
Develop some questions based on the observations. 3. Create a Hypothesis on the observations. 4. Test your hypothesis.
The method I used was to collect the data was depth interview. Depth Interview is mainly “ The opportunity to capture rich, descriptive data about people’s behaviours, attitudes and perceptions, and unfolding complex processes.” The reason I choose this method is because it gave me the opportunity to dig in and have some one on one conversations through email with my managers. The best part of depth interview compared to observe is you can ask questions and follow up questions if you need more info regarding the
At the same time, the study will posses characteristics of the exploratory research design as it will collect and classify data about sales statistics in order to observe fluctuations and purchasing patterns in terms of sales pick, costumer preference of product and product combination, preference of location, etc. Observational research will be also conducted as much information can be inferred by simply observing the consumers and analyzing the actual product.
Observational research is type of correlational (i.e., nonexperimental) research in which a researcher observes ongoing behavior. There are a variety of types of observational research, each of which has both strengths and weaknesses. These types are organized below by the extent to which an experimenter intrudes upon or controls the environment.
One of the rapid producing leisure industry divisions, the cruise industry faces several challenges. Whereas supply continues to rise at double-digit levels, demand battles to keep speed. Known the demands on communications and the jeopardy of an eroding on-shore practice, less port are in a location to provide accommodation the cruise lines as supply grows. At the similar time, the community sector's inspection of manufacturing practices associated to the surroundings, duty, safety, protection and work increases. Regardless of these confronts, numerous cruise lines report record levels of productivity. This analysis will calculate the leisure-cruise
This section will start with a comparison of three possible methodologies for data collection: ethnography, survey (or interview) and real time experience tracking. And then sampling and data collection methods will be examined followed by a description of data analysis.
At the beginning of this course leisure was a topic I did not give much thought to and I felt like I did not have the time to spare to put much thought into. To me, all leisure meant was having free time to do whatever it is that I wanted to do. But after analyzing my life I noticed that I had surrounded my life with solely work and school and my “free time” was anytime I spent watching television and anytime I slept. However, after taking this course I learned that leisure meant more much than that. Now leisure to me means, as Richard Kraus states, leisure is “time which is not devoted to work or work-connected responsibilities or to other forms of discretionary or unobligated time,” (Olson et al., 2003, 12). The “time” in which Kraus
Retention of Visitor spending: The key to achieving economic sustainability for tourism in (i.e. California and Giants Causeway) is maximising the economic retention of tourist spending in your local economy. The sustainable tourism businesses need to develop strategies that are capable of meeting the long-term economic needs and aspirations of the local community. If the communities are engaged by tourism organisations as stakeholders in tourism, and economic partners in the tourism industry, this will actively support local tourism businesses. Tourism is a rapidly growing industry and has far-reaching economic and environmental impact across the destinations; hence, if tourism is an important source of local employment and a significant
Nowadays, cruising plays an important role in the tourism industry. Cruise ships are making an enormous impact on tourism.
