Recently I was contacted by a good friend of several years who had stopped coming to church about a year or so ago, When Jeffrey contacted me I was initially very happy to hear from him, as the conversation progressed I noticed something about him had changed. I then enquired if he had started attending church again and to my relief he said he had I asked him where he was fellowshipping he responded that he was now a member of the Jehovah Witnesses, I was stunned. Jeffrey then asked me how I was doing in my walk I told him I was fellowshipping with other Christians. He then asked if we could make a time to catch up so he could show me what he had found that had brought him to join the Jehovah Witnesses, he wanted to share this truth with …show more content…
This demonstrates to us that the concept of “Trinitarianism was already present in the New Testament.” This whole concept is generally considered to be beyond the finite comprehension of men and women this is supported in Isiah 55:8-9 . In the aforementioned passage of scripture God does tell us that we should discard reason and thought nor should we cease inquiry it simply tells us that we cannot understand God’s mind and nature, nor can we understand his thoughts …show more content…
The other issue here is the belief that Jesus and the archangel Michael were or are one and the same. In Jude we are told that when the Satan and archangel Michael were fighting over Moses body he simply stated the lord rebuke you Jude 9 . While when Christ was being tempted in the desert in Matt. 4:10 he exercise’s authority over the Satan and commands him, which is something the archangel Michael had no power or authority to do. Jesus is not just a prince he is the prince the foremost he is the Lord of lords and the King of Kings . Further in John 5:17-19 Jesus claims to be equal to God the translation of this piece of scripture leaves no room for contention on this point. In this he means “equal in quality as in quantity, to claim for one’s self the nature, rank, authority, which belong to God” interestingly we should note that “Dr. Thayer was a Unitarian who denied Christs deity, yet being honest he gave the true meaning of the biblical term regardless of his own
The purpose of this paper is to identify the characteristics, values and beliefs of Jehovah’s Witness group. It will discuss their reasoning for refusal to accept blood transfusions. The paper will elaborate on the best approach to offer appropriate care, advice and education while treating patients with respect in regards to their religious beliefs. British Journal of Nursing (2009) suggests that good, honest communication, without any element of coercion or scare tactics, is the key in the management of Jehovah’s Witness patients.
Jehovah's witnesses’ faith allows them to seek medical help; however, they do not accept blood transfusions. This belief arises from a biblical passage that states "Only flesh with its soul- its blood-you must not eat (Genesis 9:3-4), "You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood. I will set my face against that person who eats blood...Anyone eating it will be cut off” (Leviticus 17:10, 13-14). These passages are interpreted by Jehovah's witnesses as forbidding the transfusion of any blood products. The following presentation will address legal and ethical issues that can arise from this scenario.
Many studies about Jehovah Witnesses state that they are the strictest religion out there. They have rules that should be followed or the person ends up condemned. They do not believe in other religions whatsoever, in any shape or form. Jehovah Witnesses God’s name to them is Jehovah. The sociological concepts discussed will be social class and norms, a function and a dysfunction of Jehovah Witness religion, a symbolic ritual, and an aspect of this religion that entails conflict.
All you have to do is sign this document and all your suffering and pain will end, now will you sign, or not? This is a decision that many of Jehovah’s Witnesses during the Nazi Regime faced. What did this document contain? It stated that they would abandon their beliefs and faith in Jehovah God and pledge loyalty to the man behind their persecution of not only them, but also persecutor of the gypsies, Jews, and other groups of people he hated, he was Adolf Hitler. Jehovah’s Witnesses had a number of their human rights violated during the Holocaust. Foremost though, what are human rights? According to www.humanrights.com, human rights are, “The rights you have simply because you are human.” There are thirty human rights that are found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that people should apply, but sadly don’t. The book Stolen Into Slavery by Judith Dennis and Fradin explains another group of people that were violated of their human rights, 19th century slaves. These slaves were required to labor and suffer pain in the South, but some of these slaves were actually free black men from the northern states (where slavery was illegal) who had been lured into the southern states (where slavery was legal and encouraged) like Solomon Northup was a victim to this scam. Jehovah’s Witnesses and slaves were persecuted in a homogeneous manner, in a sense that both groups were tortured, imprisoned and taken away to another country or location, and they were also stripped of
). Also 62% of the religiously affiliated say that they attend a religious service at least twice a month (Pew Research Center). And among the religiously affiliated, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons have the greatest levels of regular religious services. Of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, 85% say they attend religious services at least once a week, and 77% of Mormons say they attend them once a week (Pew Research Center). In contrast, 39% of Catholics and 39% of Protestants say they attend Mass weekly, which is relatively lower than the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons (Pew Research Center). There is also quite a large gap in going to religious services between the old and young Americans. The gap is particularly large for Catholics. 56% percent
Over the span of four months, each week I would regularly meet with a former colleague of mine by the name of Terrion Austin. Terrion recently moved from Nebraska to Tennessee, due to his job opening that presented itself that would allow for him to be closer to both him and his wife’s family. Terrion reached out to me over the summer, due to the fact that he was extremely unsure in his faith. He felt that whenever he read the bible he was never felt satisfied once done reading. This frustrated him tremendously. In addition to his frustration, Terrion was often confronted by members from his job that would frequently ask him questions that he did not feel he could answer. Moreover, his inability to answer did not come from a lack of knowing the bible; however, it was quite the opposite. Terrion, like most young Christian, grew up
According to Ehrman’s evidence Jesus “neither thought of himself as God, nor claimed to be God” and that Jesus thought of himself as “an apocalyptic prophet” or Jewish Preacher and that even his disciples didn’t see him as divine until after his death and resurrection. In addition Ehrman finds that it was hard to decipher between human and divine in these times and that, “In other words, if humans could be angels (and angels humans), and if angels could be gods, and if in fact the chief angel could be the Lord himself – then to make Jesus divine, one simply needs to think of him as an angel in human form. ”Ehrman 61. Ehrman uses the bible to help make his case, stating that if Jesus really thought of himself as God, he would go around promoting it. In the Gospel of John in the Bible the writer states ““If Jesus really went around calling himself God [in John], wouldn’t the other Gospels at least mention the fact?”
Many know them as people who go knocking from door to door wanting to Evangelize, to talk to you about Jesus. Sound familiar? I didn’t know what they actually believed until I did my research. The Jehovah’s Witnesses were actually founded in Pennsylvania in the late 1800s, during a dispute taken place during a Bible study. The dispute was over some of the views within Christianity. The founder is a man named Charles Taze Russell. Thus, the Jehovah’s Witnesses were born. Their name stood out because they considered themselves as “a group of Christians who proclaim the truth about Jehovah”. Jehovah’s Witnesses main focus in on God the Father. There are over 8.3 million Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world.
The other bit of news is that Mr. Shufner has started doing street corner preaching with the bible. I never knew him to be religious, but considering where his life has headed these past few years it’s his only means of comfort. You’ll usually find him in the Safeway plaza with a small crowd handing out fliers. I went to approach him the other day after getting myself some meal milkshakes, and he seemed rather… distant. He used to be pretty friendly towards me before, but now he’s acting like I’ve done something wrong to him. Rather than engage me in conversation, he starts to recite verses to me with the sternest of looks. Maybe I have a bad habit of getting under people’s skin? Maybe he’s still bitter about Robin’s untimely demise that he’s taking it out on me? It seems a bit petty, but he hasn’t been right in the head since the tragedy. As I sit here at my desk typing up this article, regarding Shufner 's small Christian healing seminar I try to figure a way to approach him for the next part of the article. He didn’t seem interested in promoting it out loud, but randomly approaches people off the street and offers them free prayer and healing. He’s also started a Christian get a way program, he takes people out to an old isolated church town
It is the longing of Jehovah's Witnesses that you will be familiar with them. You may have met them as neighbors and fellow workers or in other events of life. You may have seen them on the street, recommending their magazines to onlookers. Or you may have spoken briefly with them at your door.
Hey Kathleen, I really enjoyed reading your thread, especially when you talk about being born in a Jehovah’s witness family. I can only imagine how confused you were when you got older, and realized that you were not being taught about the real Christ. How did that make you feel? Where you angry, confused, let down or did you just embrace it for what is was? People reject the gospel all the time based on beliefs of what they are taught growing up, such as yourself. When you are born into a certain religion you grow up knowing only that religion. When we are confronted about another God we automatically reject it. Not because we want to, but because of the fear of the unknown. Sharing the love of Christ is what someone did to address your objections,
One day this week some members invited us to their quinceañera (15th birthday party) They wanted us to come and talk to their family and friends that were not members. We got to tell a few people about what we believe. There was one lady who we talked to for a good long time. She was going through some personal trials and told us that she needed some strengthening. We read with here and talked with her. She loved talking to us and said we would like to learn more. She speaks english so we reffered her to the english speaking elders. She was very funny and energetic. She told us she belives in verbal praises. She thought she forgot her napkin but found it again and said "oh praise the lord!" I thought that was intersting. Anyhow we had the oppritunity to talk to a lot of people and give out pamphlets with our phone number on them.
However, I was not even certain if that was possible; I have friends who are Mormons, for example, and I know that they are not allowed to simply bring guests with them to church services. Therefore, I called up the closest Jehovah's Witness Church near me and asked if it would be appropriate for me to attend a service. I was told that I would be welcome to attend and that Gladys would greet me at the Sunday service. When I met Gladys, I discovered that she was an older middle-aged white woman. I point out her race because one of the things I found interesting about the church, when I entered it, was that it seemed to be composed of approximately the same racial composition as my community. This was a striking difference, as many churches in my area are practically segregated by race.
From feeding thousands of people, bringing a dead girl back to life, giving a deaf man hearing, walking on water to inspiring thousands of followers to try to become better people and live better lives. My definition of divine would be, from or like a God and I believe that is exactly what Jesus is. As soon as Jesus was baptized the Spirit came down and heard “You are my Son,” this shows that God himself sees Jesus as his son and wants him to do his work. To be divine, I think you have to be all good and be able to inspire others and that’s exactly what Jesus did. He managed to inspire thousands and thousands of people while also angering so many because they did not believe was the chosen one that was sent to take away the sins of the world. To be equal to a God, in my mind, you have to have Godly powers, must be wanting a better world for your followers to live in, and to sacrifice yourself for those who support you but also the ones who hate you the most. I do believe Jesus was equal to the God of Israel because he came to Israel and preached to many, healed people in crowds, and died for us. He did this all for us and no one appreciated it until he was already dead. The high priests finally realized who they had persecuted once they had already killed him. Jesus is our savior and to me is equivalent to the God of
I am addressing the Jehovah’s Witnesses case. Please call an intervention on taking the Branch Office and Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses. As a Jehovah’s Witness we try to be as kind and peaceful as possible. Personally the publications and meetings have benefited me by being a better person and having a good conscience. It also helps my family to stay together and have a good relationship with each other and
