The next aspect to tackle is how he is currently working for his constituency. First, we should identify his constituency as mostly lower socioeconomic class white people from the mid-west and south. He had a twelve point advantage with males--almost twice Romney’s 2012 seven point advantage--, a twenty one point advantage with whites. Additionally, the less education an individual has, the more likely they voted for Trump as he had a 39 point advantage with white voters who had some college or less. Conversely, the younger a voter is, the less likely they are to vote for Trump seeing as he only has an 8 point advantage and Democrats have an 8 point advantage, more than double the Republican’s percentage (Tyson and Maniam, 2016). Like a CEO of a company chooses managers who will blindly follow whatever orders he/she gives, Trump used this idea and found individuals that have strong voices on their own but that ultimately believe the same things that he does. Of course, this all starts with his Vice President, Mike Pence, who is infamous for being extremely anti-LGBTQ+ and for his horrifyingly strong belief in the effectiveness of conversion therapy. Trump’s opinion on this matter does not sit too far from this as he has been a long time opponent of same-sex marriage, despite signs of a change of heart in 2013 (Human Rights Campaign, 2017). Pence will help push this agenda by his mere existence as, basically, the figurehead of the movement against LGBTQ+ people, and through his inevitable support in the future of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. Additionally, I cannot help but to believe that Trump knows fully well that the American public fears the strongly opposing stances his Vice President has in relation to the American public, which effectively works as an incentive to not impeach him as we would be stuck with Pence if that happened. For a man who cannot seem to control his early morning Twitter rants, he sure does appear to have put a lot of time into creating his strategy for success. Another big player in Trump’s political sphere is Scott Pruitt, the President’s pick for the head of the Environmental …show more content…
Well, whether it was intentional or not, Trump opened many people’s eyes to large-scale issues in American society that we have all ignored for a while such as our divisiveness despite not being too different (Red vs. Blue america) and the complicated nature of the US election process that allows politicians and the media to play ordinary citizens as pawns in their big plan. Through his winning the presidency by the electoral college vote and not the popular vote, it has lead many to question the effectiveness of this system. Through his winning so many supporters despite his obviously racist remarks, we are now lead to recognize that racism has not been completely eradicated, like many of us have assumed until now. Whether he knows it or not, Donald Trump has opened up the general public’s eyes about politics and the way the government is organized. Take me for example. Before this election, I always said that I was not interested in politics because I thought they were stupid and did not directly affect me. The shock of the events of this election pushed me to take this class and learn more about politics, as I feel every other American that is able to should do. Whether it was intentional or not, Donald Trump winning the Presidency has taught us all a few very important lessons: to look outside of our own sphere
Trump acts as a religious figure where he dictates the morality of the collective. The collective has the power to impose moral expectations on the individual that explains their actions. Many people identify with the Republican party where their views are dominated by the collective in which they identify with and thus, support their collective leader. Durkheim defines religion as a system of beliefs and practices that unite a community through “collective effervescence” that forms “harmony and unison of movement[s]” (Durkheim 1915, 218). The force of collective on individuals could be uncontrollable and it dominates their bodies and perceptions that leads to “outlandish behavior” (Durkheim 1915, 218). Trump supporters lose themselves in a rally and experience a sense of euphoria by being in a collective and cheering on what they considered is sacred. Trump claims to provide his followers the sacred while protecting them from the “profane” such as the Mexicans or the Muslims. The followers believe in the faith of a “better America” and possess totems that represent their unity such as the red hat or the campaign
The most recent presidential election has been one of the most dividing in the history of America. While President Trump won the electoral vote, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, creating a divide in workplaces, schools, and many other public places. The greatest challenges that the President will need to address first are the unity of Americans for the acceptance of all people and the education of young people, as they are the future of our nation.
Donald Trump could not meet the same political expectations that presidents before him had. Americans have elected experienced politicians from the beginning, and they have watched the world progressively get worse every election. The people of the United States were tired of being let down by lying politicians that had promised the moon and stars but couldn’t deliver. In an article written by A.J. Delgado it states, “But the American public has reached a tipping point- we’d rather gouge out our eyes than select another career politician or Washington insider.” This quote is one that I couldn’t agree with more. Americans finally decided for themselves that enough is enough, and we deserve a change in this
This election is unique, and even if the choice may seem clear there are many people on the fence about who has the best fit to be our president. However, with Clinton leading in the polls, and for good reason, the American people may just be realizing that a reality television mogul has no business running for president of the United States. Even though some people may say that we could benefit from Trump’s background in business, that’s about the only thing that would work in our favor if he becomes president. Setting our nation back fifty years is not something that would benefit us but if we let Trump halt immigration, take away rights women have fought for so long and continue to say and do unbelievably ignorant things then we will only
Trump is tempted, he should know that posting a few politically-correct tweets will not magically turn protesters and haters into his disciples. Through ethical policy proposals, he must prove that he is indeed president for all Americans; only then will dissenters consider joining the ranks of his supporters; only then will the specter of the pre-election gibberish and hate speech stop haunting him during his presidency.
Remember 2012 when Mitt Romney ran for president? We all thought that it was the end of the world and that Romney would be the final downfall of America. Now it’s 2016 and there’s a new “Mitt Romney,” but this time it’s totally different. Donald Trump is someone who people either glorify or are terrified at the thought of this man “making America great again.” Most people think that Donald Trump is “brutally honest” or is extremely humourous. The people who think that Trump is funny are not looking at what he could do. The people who agree with Trump’s views are not looking at how it could affect so many people looking up to America which is perceived as a chance for change and hope. Maybe I’m being bias because I am the child of an Mexican
It is hard to believe that an individual like Donald Trump would now be the president of the United States of America. Many individuals believed that Trump would have never run until he did. Then, others said he would never win the primaries until he did. Finally, everyone assumed that there were little to zero possibilities that Trump would actually become one of the United States presidents until he did and is our president today, and is currently inside the White House running the country. For most of the society, it was a huge shock, there was a fear of deportation in many of the immigrant families going around. However, for others, they were satisfied with the
The result left many news outlets baffled and the question of how was Donald Trump able to win the vote despite the statements he made throughout his campaign. According to the newsweek.com, “blue-collar and working class voters got credit for Trump’s victory…but he flipped a lot of very white-collar voters as well”. In addition, the news site also mentioned that another reason was because voters wanted a change in government. One of the greater reasons as to why the GOP nominee won the election was because of the vote from the mid-west and white Americans with a lower education. In an article by Danielle Kurtzleben from npr.com stated that “whites without college degrees have fled to the GOP”. Up until the Bill Clinton administration, this group of voters was in the middle between the democratic and republican party, and since then have been in favor of the GOP. Kurtzleben later explained how white college graduates were in favor of Trump by 4 points, however whites who did not have a degree preferred Trump by 39
Like him or not, he's undeniably genuine. What Donald Trump thinks, Donald Trump says. That has created a great appeal to Americans who are greatly fed up with politics. Only 15% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing. Trump and his brash honesty are as stark of a contrast as you can get to the politicians on capitol hill. In the GOP field, just 3 out of 17 candidates are not politicians. These three, Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, have all seen significant rises in the polls. Carson has risen to second, above Bush, and Fiorina has climbed from the cellar of GOP candidates to a prime time contender, both literally and figuratively. They are seen genuine and authentic and the voters in turn prefer them over lifetime politicians, such as Bush who has seen a six point and three place drop, and Scott Walker who went from a potential surprise to languishing in 5th place having fallen by 7
The Republican Presidential front-runner Donald Trump continues to rise in the polls even after a widely held opinion that he lost the debate to a much more eloquent and prepared Carly Fiorina. Fiorina in response to her strong performance has seen a modest jump in the polls; however, Trump supports continue to see high numbers in the polls. His bombastic personality and candidacy have received cheers from liberals and confusion by establishment conservatives who normally would treat candidates like Trump as only the popular dish of the day. Establishment conservatives are praying that voters eventually see the Trump dish is undercooked, and that it would ultimately leave them at the mercy of the porcelain throne the next four years. The main
Donald J. Trump will be the next president of the United States. Continuously throughout the election process, pundits and commoners alike dismissed even the slightest possibility of a Trump victory for a host of reasons. The most glaring of which was that he had no political experience, followed closely by the fact that he consistently spewed hateful rhetoric directed at nearly every demographic imaginable, save for white men. Nevertheless, as the election drew closer, the number of his supporters grew and became increasingly loyal. Indeed, his faction was so loyal that he even boasted, "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn 't lose voters" (Diamond). It seemed as if no matter how many sexist, racist, xenophobic, etcetera, remarks he made, that his supporters weren 't merely indifferent; they were rejoicing at his "honesty." Furthermore, many of Trump 's Draconian policies, although hard to pin down, given that he was always wavering, were often at the expense of women, Muslims, and other minorities (Timm). Meanwhile, those opposed to Trump, regardless of who they endorsed, were astounded as to how, in such a diverse country, a man who disrespected so many people could garner so much support. From another perspective, many were bewildered that there were so many Americans who somehow still believed that not every human deserves equal rights. Rather than articulate their viewpoints eloquently, many Trump supporters standoffishly claimed
This past election has shaken the nation as a whole, it has caused the the feelings of hate we all thought were buried with our ancestors to resurface and become acceptable once again. Donald Trump becoming our next presidential elect, has impacted us all, and there is no doubt that this election has by far been the most influential on our nation’s mental health.
Donald Trump took full advantage of a racial backlash to the presidency of Barack Obama. He successfully rebooted and gave new life to the Southern Strategy 2.0 – which rallied white voters on the back of heightened racial animosity.
Donald Trump was elected president of the United States of America on November 8th, 2016, and now has been running our country for over a year. As Trump’s first year in office slowly began, his reputation seems to be creating different outside views of our nation and arguments started producing everywhere. After competing with Hillary Clinton for the presidential term in office, Trump defeated her along with her democratic supporters causing one of the most shocking elections in U.S. history. Using public media web pages, we are reviewing both sides of the argument regarding Trump’s election and we are going to decipher why each arguer supports their side, and why each side is reasonable for the benefit of our country.
Immersing myself into the idea that Donald J. Trump is qualified to be president has been, what I envision my legal studies to be, an exhausting yet rewarding feat, especially as a “#Blacks4Trump” (you 'll have to check it out on Twitter). When I decided to support Donald J. Trump, I went “all in”. I followed him on social media, I signed up for his campaign newsletters, I purchased bumper stickers, I donated to his campaign, I even began to tune into Fox News hosts like Sean Hannity, when I would have never done so in the past. I took a lot of heat from family. I went way out of my comfort zone. I was totally invested! I admire what Donald J. Trump represents-- something exciting and different-- and I am committed to doing whatever I can, however big or small, to see that his campaign see its ROI.
