In Discussion Form 1, two business issues will be discussed based on a person 's own professional work environment and how different concepts from the working organization applies to the work performance by providing examples and reading material. In every work environment, there are many different personalities. This can be good and it can also be bad. Robbins and Judge (2009) describes personalities as the sum total of ways which an individual reacts and interacts with others, the measurable traits a person exhibits. When a person is hired in a position, obviously there was something that the hiring crew have seen in that person that could make a difference to the organization. When fellow co-workers work together, then thats when the different personality traits clash. It is commonly believed that people differ in various ways, and these individual differences play a detrimental role on their behaviour at work. To be more specific, individual differences include two kernel factors which refers to intelligence and personality. It is clear that individual differences are important in determining behaviour, however, there are other external factors which are equally important, such as working environment or culture within an organisation.
Narcissism is defined as the love of ones self. Sigmund Freud was the first to use the word to characterize certain character traits. He got the word from the Greek mythological legend Narcissus who saw his reflection in water and fell in love with himself. Freud suggests that all of us have a bit of self love, but when self love goes extreme it can be a problem and is considered a pathological problem. When employers understand how personality affect behaviour in the workplace this can help determine what motivates the employees to perform or behave in a certain way.
The world would be a lot better of a place if everyone got along and knew how to communicate effectively with one another. There are several different personalities at any given workplace. “According to typological theory, each of us is born with a predisposition for certain personality preferences” (Kroeger pg11 para4). The Myers-Briggs Personality assessment is the most effective way to determine one’s personality type. The test uses different markers to determine how one is stimulated and exerts energy, gather information, make decisions, and living structure. At the completion of the test one will get personality type that is comprised of four letters. The test was developed based off of Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs-Myers’ psychological research on personalities and later dissected into Otto Kroeger’s book, “Type Talk at Work.” This book gives one the tools to determine what one’s personality is and then goes into great detail about one’s strengths and weaknesses and how it applies to to real life situations. My personality description is ENFP; Extravert, iNtuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving. The following are details regarding and ENFP personality type examining a holistic view including personal and work place interactions. Everything is based on insights gained from real world experiences and interactions.
The obsession of interacting with higher authority figures displays a complete disregard for fellow coworkers, as though they do not deserve his attention. These illusions are a part of a narcissistic personality disorder. Luis (n.d.) displays many symptoms but a clinician may require an evaluation that seeks five symptoms or more before diagnosing Luis with narcissistic personality disorder (APA, 1994). The lack of patience for others (n.d.) is a sign of a lack of empathy, another indicator of the disorder (para. 5). Coworkers describe Luis as taking advantage of others for his own success. All of these descriptions are clear indicators that Luis suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder; he does not have a compassionate nature, he profiles himself as upper management, he associates with others only to benefit himself, he displays an arrogant attitude by boasting achievements and the purchase of material items, and he expects everyone to treat him as though he is a part of upper management.

As human beings, we different from one another. We are created with a lot of character traits. We all can gain knowledge about our own personalities, we develop our perceptive about strengths and weaknesses, and clarify what we truly value as individuals. The Myers Brigg personality assessment classified me as an Introvert, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving (ISFP) personality type. Results showed slightly Introvert 16 %, sensing 12%, feeling 19%, and perceiving 3%. Throughout this paper I will analyze the diverse parts of my own personality traits and how those traits have effected both my personal and my working environment.
