Another job duty is balancing the cash items ledger every day. The majority if the time cash items remain with a zero balance. Occasionally there will be a need to place something in cash item, usually bonds, and that will require balancing to make sure the items are carried over or removed appropriately. When someone cashes out bonds, the teller places the bonds in cash item until they can be sent to and worked up by Bookkeeping. This usually takes about a day or two since all WCB mail in couriered between the branches daily. Recently, we had an incident where some bonds had to be left in cash item for a week because a teller misunderstood sending them in the mail, meaning with the courier, and she sent them through the U.S. Postal
