Rapid urbanisation has caused a variety of problems, including transport congestion, lack of sufficient homes and living conditions, sanitary and health care issues, and crime. For all these problems, city planners have attempted potential solutions, each with varying degrees of success. Cities including London, Manila and Mumbai have several of the aforementioned problems, and have each tried their own potential solutions. This essay will discuss how successful these schemes have been in resolving these issues.
He believes this is another priorities like the others which the city need to build if they want a livable city and an equitable city
The growth of the County is detailed through several planning elements: demographics, population needs, housing, economic development, environment, community character, parks and recreation, public facilities, transportation, land use. Many goals include, a focus to establish a sustainable long-term supply of water systems, an improvement of infrastructure, facilities, and simultaneously modernize with technological systems. Other initiatives include the establishment of mixed-use development, and several land-use surveys for future schools road projects. The economic development goal is to expand and diversify the economy by making the County more business-friendly. Another goal is the concern for the overall aesthetics of the County such as tree standards, open space development, and redevelopment of underutilized property. Other population needs include the modernization of public services including parks, sport complexes, but also services to the elderly, disabled, and low income citizens (James City County,
It is a very diverse community; it has a population of over of over 200,000. With the “estimated median household income in 2015: $39,835 (it was $30,719 in 2000)” (City-Data, 2017), we have low crime rates and many tourist attractions of which many are historic sites. We have local airport, shopping, restaurants, top of the line medical facilities, entertainment venues and lots of outdoor activities.
Presently, low-income occupiers are in deeper poverty because of the dislodgment caused by gentrification. Furthermore, a lack of resources plagues low-incomes families and forces them into shelters. Current actions taken by city officials are a step in the right direction. Nevertheless, by including more voices in urbanization of cities in the future, the advancement of cities can include all members rather than just the wealthy.
This is what tax dollars should be used for, improvements for the city and all the people of the city, not just
The purpose was to connect and to find common ground. The hope was that community stakeholders could work together. The motivation was to invest in the core vibrancy of our community. The ambition was that projects could develop. The priorities were smart design, the arts, and entrepreneurship.
The government cannot keep ignoring the disproportionately negative impact on marginalized groups and disadvantaged neighborhoods that the current strategy has had. Policies should aim to benefit the most disadvantaged, which will require the government to implement equity over equality. Policies will need to acknowledge differences between different groups and people. In addition, community development policies should increase citizen participation, which will make the city more a collective right for everyone, instead of just for the powerful and wealthy. These goals will help steer the community development strategy away from issues such as gentrification that ignore the needs of the marginalized, and will instead focus specifically on helping those who need help the most. This does not mean policymakers need to disregard economic impact entirely in policy analysis, but they should also recognize social impact and focus on the economic impact for the most disadvantaged communities in the

John Fry is making living communities that promote safety, cultivating the community and improving the economy. John Fry helps facilitate younger citizens who are moving into the city where it is
The first thing to keep a community together is equality. When there is full equality throughout a city there is no chance for jealousy, envy, or self-entitlement. All of the people wear the same clothes

A sustainable city is when harmony is reached between the environment, economy and society. Environmentally, sustainable cities are ecologically friendly by using alternative sources of energy such as solar or wind power. Economically, governments should share a similar decision-making process with institutions and with the public by having a common belief in what should be done by improving sustainability. Sorensen, Marcotullio, and Grant (2004), find that a good decision making process consists of planning and control at the municipal and national political levels which would allow local level functions to become reinforced. Socially, sustainable cities are classless, meaning that there are no social divisions which serve as limits; leading to a more equal society. One of the many ideas would be using mixed housing to remove the class divisions between people. Also, city streets would be walkable, with businesses and services located at close proximity to promote a healthier lifestyle and serve as an alternative to using cars for transportation. The writers differ in their analysis when examining the approaches to improving sustainability in cities. This section will analyze four important ideas on how cities can become more sustainable.
Part two of Death and Life explains several conditions for city diversity based on the observations of different American cities and discusses in depth the four factors that Jacobs believe are critical for the development of a city. The basis for generating diversity lies in these conditions, and cannot be secludedly achieved by planning and designing. This part lays out the foundation and is the basis for the rest of the book. It shows urban planning and many possible remedies for creating equal diversity, and studies why these are not applied and the effects of it not being so.
[1] Explained by this exemplifies that a city should have a foundation for it to grow off of. I do believe this will also be the doing of the citizens that help plan at meetings with communities, yet a good foundation is what will lead to a “good city”. Furthermore, with the influence of citizens, a good city will develop from nothing and will have a sense of cultural background from the past of citizens who live there currently.
