Before this quarter, I preferred to use a pen and paper when I wrote, but I had to use a computer for the assignments in this class. By taking this class, I discovered the advantages of using a computer, and now I am use it more.
I loved writing about my thoughts or feelings about things that happened to me. But I had a good involvement various kinds of writing from this class: descriptive writing, visual analysis, problem-solution essay, wide repertoire of read and respond etc. I enjoyed the writing assignments the most of . Especially when I wrote the descriptive writing, it was good to make a 5 sences chart for the place. I felt as if I was a novelist. In my Korean version, I wrote more stories and details, but I had to cut these because of difficulty to translate. (I’m sorry, I couldn’t approve it for you. You should learn Korean.) Also, visual analysis work was meaningful to me. I have envied Sister Wendy 's knowledge of art and her extraordinary ability to explain a work of art. This assignment gave me an experience to learn about visual art analysis like her a little.
And I have to say about the thesis . Thesis statement structure was not familiar to me. But I found that thesis mastatement made a convenient structure of the paper to understand for the readers, also not to wander out of the topic for the writers. In spite of, I felt that It seemed me to tie in the structure mechanically. So I was very struggled to follow instruction to write the thesis
I have truly enjoyed writing for most of my life and after this class I will continue to enjoy writing hopefully with more skill. I have always viewed myself as a fairly strong writer and this class has reaffirmed that for me, but it has also shown weaknesses in my writing. As an introduction level class this has been one of my favorites; at some point I will take a higher level, even though it is not required for my major. Even though this class is almost over I am continuing to learn. I also love that this class will help me with literally ever other class in my college career. I am not a particularly strong reader, but as my writing skills improve so do the reading skills. While in this class I have learned a lot about everything from what I can improve, to subjects that interest me, and constructing a successful paper.
paper. I couldn’t comprehend why it made it easier for me to write, when the teacher provided
When writing a paper or take notes it's better to use a computer or laptop because it
This class experience has enhanced my understanding of the art world and how visuals play a major role in expressing certain ideals. The way certain artists portray their art is caused by many different techniques. It’s amazing to see my progression through out from week to week through my discussion boards. I even learned something the very first week of class, in the Abbott reflection I stated, “A big theme in this photograph is the use of lines. As we have studied in class lines add a lot of meaning and can be used interchangeably. Also, I like how the
This course was comprised of many learning activities; each was designed to help me achieve the course learning outcomes. I have taken two college English classes in the past; however, it has been several years since my last college class. I have some experience in writing and this class definitely helped me get back into writing. I often have trouble brainstorming and capturing the subject I need to write about. This class definitely helped me overcome the challenges I faced in writing and being able to effectively express my ideas in a clear and concise manner. Not to mention, it definitely helped build my writing foundation through a step by step approach to each assignment. Therefore, this class bolstered my writing and communication skills.
Moreover, I consider homework assignments and activities in this course to be helpful. They have enhanced my writing skills, as I know how to write a story, a scenario, and how to support my argument. Frankly speaking, English writing must be my weakest point. However, due to our professor, all instructions were given in a precise manner and I could understand all tasks.
Computers and technological devices have been heavily used in millions of elementary classrooms throughout the world. While many people believe this is a beneficial thing some think it is taking over the traditional ways of learning and damaging their social interaction. All the colors and sounds on the screen attract children and make them think that what they are learning is fun and enjoyable. Using computers in the classroom is very beneficial, but it should not be replacing traditional ways of education. As Elizabeth Bohnhorst, author of Floppy Disk Fallacies, stated “…computers are being used more and more frequently as a substitute for books, blackboards, and in some cases, the teachers themselves (251-252)”. Students will soon not have the need to bring pencils, paper, and even a backpack to class because everybody will be using computers as a means of learning. Moreover, computers should be used only as a tool to assist learners and make certain tasks accomplishable more efficiently while also keeping traditional ways of learning.
I have never been an excellent student and perennially struggled with English, Math, and Science growing up. These subjects would cast a pall over my day and school work. Anxiety would well up inside of me which often resulted with me passed out across my desk sleeping through parts of class. When I would return home at day’s end, I rarely completed my homework. When I did try to complete homework, it often ended in tears of frustration or the hurling of a book across the room. Taking this class has helped to quell a portion of that anxiety and frustration. It was a grueling class, seemingly impossible at times, but taking this class has given me the confidence to know that not only can I finish the class if I work hard but can also excel! Writing is something that I will exercise throughout my college curriculum and my life. It will help to convey my ideas to the instructor, peers, bosses, and co-workers. In my college curriculum, it will also show my instructors that I’m learning the information provided and how to apply that knowledge appropriately. It will allow me to complete assignments, discussions, and reports, and I will also apply writing in basic communication when necessary.
“ In writing your thesis statement you need to think about your final paper. What is it really that you will be talking about? You need to summarize those four points that will make up the body paper”
Throughout school, students are taught to handwrite notes. In college, many students transition from handwritten notes to electronic notes, such as on tablets and laptops. In the article “Attention Students: Put Your Laptops Away”, National Public Radio, or NPR, explains that although many students prefer taking notes on their electronics, handwritten notes have been proven to be much more effective despite technology.
When I first heard the topic of my writing assignment, I was really surprised. I’ve never been asked to write about reflecting on or evaluating my writing process before entering this university. Although my homeland is in Thailand and the way of teaching differs greatly from Korea, there are some common aspects that affected my writing process. In addition, the knowing what is right and wrong about the process of writing is fundamental to create a finalized paper.
The most interesting piece of artwork that I had the chance to come across in this course was Bernini’s sculpture of St. Teresa De Avila. I have taken many art classes throughout my time as a college student, but I enjoyed this sculpture immensely because it is a piece that had the ability to touch my heart, mind, and soul. The three elements that inhibited me to choose this painting was the emotions displayed by the figures, the intricate details, and the overall message innocence and beauty that the art depicts.
As a college student the computer has benefited myself in many ways. When a professor assigns me a paper to write, my first instinct is to
Most students today use technology throughout their school day. Uses for technology can be found for every subject matter a student has. Some of the most widely used tools are found in the English and Language Arts classes. Writing on word processors allows students to cut-and-paste, save their work, and use spell checkers and thesauruses. With technology students are also given advantages in learning how to read. Reading programs use
First, I want it to be clear that yesterday upon arriving at the post I never received the post keys and did not see them on the desk. Normally, the post keys would be near the post phone but lately (for the past month or two) Andrew has had them. He would leave the post and realize that he had them and have to return to give them to me; other times I have found them in the bag where we keep the janitor keycards.
