V for Vendetta Argumentative Essay
Should batman kill the joker?
The joker has killed so many people and is going to kill more in the future, so why hasn’t batman killed him already? Well the answer is; though killing the joker would save many innocent lives, according to deontology, “…it may not be morally right for any person to kill him” (C, pp.8). So now on to the actual question; is V from V for Vendetta a hero or vigilante? The definition of “vigilante” is someone who takes the law into their own hands, often with violence and lacking lawful procedures. Let’s pretend V is batman and the Norsefire government of London is the joker. V is literally destroying the government while batman is trying to save as many lives as he can without destroying the joker. This is why batman is considered a hero. We could probably all agree first of all that the

“Vigilantism is not always the KKK perpetrating a racist lynching in the dark of night,” in fact it’s the complete opposite in V’s case (B, pp.11). The KKK and Nazis are actual terrorist groups that target minorities. V was sent to Lark hill because he was a minority, how would it make any sense for V to target one of his own? In source B it says, “A further source of damage comes […] then further undermine the system's reputation and its crime-control effectiveness in a downward spiral to greater tragedy.” Though “undermining the systems reputation” is bad, it shouldn’t have to be undermined in the first place. V is trying to “[protect] privacy, [limit] governmental intrusion in citizens’ lives, and [maintain] a proper separation of powers” (B, pp.9). If the solution to do all this is to undermine the government, then so be it. No matter the procedures that have to be taken, whether it be killing or blowing up the house of parliament, the justification to freedom is
George Orwell's 1984 and the movie V for Vendetta both have similar views on how society is being run. Since The book 1984 was written before V for Vendetta, so perhaps V for Vendetta may have based some of its ideas on this book. Both 1984 and V for Vendetta have similarities like the way the themes and how the male protagonists are the one in charge of overturning the government.
History has a tendency to repeat itself. One of humanity’s most popular ways of getting its point across is through violence. When words are no longer enough to argue a point, human casualties not only directly solve the problem, but symbolically send a message to all those affected as well. Just as the American colonies fought against the British for Freedom when their voice was no longer heard, and just as the Islamic extremists used terrorism to send an evil message to America, both V and Chancellor Sutler used violence to gain a voice in a world of chaos.
The terrorists in both the film and the text commit extreme actions, nevertheless I sympathise with V as he shows emotion and has a similar philosophy as that of the society, whereas the terrorists in After the First Death deem otherwise. The film V for
V for Vendetta, by Alan Moore, outlines a man’s quest for revenge and desire to change the society in which he lives in. The novel is set in England in 1997. The country has been consumed by war, famine and disease, and in response the government seizes the opportunity to gain complete control. England becomes a fascist dictatorship, offering the citizens a promise for peace and safety in return for their complete submission. The people resign to an enforced contentment, and decline to fight for their freedom.
The film 'V for Vendetta' directed by James McTeigue addresses the idea of governmental authority and control in our society. One key scene where this is portrayed is in the opening, where Evey goes out to visit Gordon Deitrich after curfew. The futuristic landscape of a totalitarian England is displayed here, where the oppressive party in power have created a culture of fear to ensure the conformity of the citizens. However, in contrast, the final scene of the film where a crowd converges to watch Parliament blow up, illustrates a further idea. That when united, it is the people who have the power to change their society, through rebellion and political uprising.
2a) Describe the differences between the fascist Norsefire government’s and V’s anarchist view of a “healthy country.” How do Norsefire and V define the role of the government and the role of the citizen differently?
Batman is one of the many fictional superheroes which appears in the “American comic books” that is published by the DC comics. The character is a secret identity for Bruce Wayne, the only heir to Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne swore an oath of vengeance when he witnessed the death of his parents;Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne (Diamond, 2015). Bat man combats criminals in Gotham: a fictional city, with assistance from various characters, for example, his butler Alfred and Gordon; Gotham city police commissioner. Unlike many of the superheroes characters, Batman possesses no powers .Bruce Wayne trained himself intellectually and physically .it is from dedication to training he possessed the useful traits of physical prowess, martial arts skills, detective skills and indomitable will to fight for justice. Though his motive is to combat crime and protect people of Gotham city from criminals, the justice system in most of the times views Batman as a villain and vigilante. He can inflict fear to Gotham city criminals thereby bringing calmness to the city. I identify myself with the Batman character through his selfless will for justice, his strong determination to do good
Is V a terrorist? In the Novel V For Vendetta. I say that he is not a terrorist in the book, but he is more of a hero figure for the people of London standing up for their rights to be free. To me the terrorists are the people who work for the Head, so those people are the Fingers, Nose, Eyes, and the Ears.I say that the Head and his minions are the terrorists becauses of the way they run London. Maybe V is more of a Vigliante, and he is only doing harm to the people that deserves it.
The idea of reality is a difficult thought since human beings came across the idea of what is real or not real. The movies that were shown around the years touch on the subject of reality. For example, in the island the character Dr. Merrick created a false reality for the clones to believe that they were chosen to go to the island which was a lie, so he can play god and use these clones as experiments for his clients. However, the character Lincoln questioned this false reality due to all the strange events and questionable thoughts created an idea to recover the truth. This begs the question of what reality is, is it the way humans perceive the way we see or it something more like Alice in Wonderland, so many questions but so little answers.
V blows up populated buildings, he murders heartlessly, and even manages to torture the closest person to him, Evey, until she views the world as he does. Although V’s actions are done in spite of the greater good, being the only one bold enough to take on the Norsefire, by definition, V is still a terrorist. He is guilty of all these actions, but V is still viewed as the “good guy.” A terrorist wants all others to believe in the same way that they think, just as V did with his idea. The question
It’s a title with a strong letter used as somewhat like a alliteration to exaggerate the ideas within this film, ‘V for Vendetta’, directed by James McTeigue, this defines what the true meaning of injustice which seems to be over exaggerated through action, sci-fi and thriller scenes. ‘V for Vendetta’ is a type of film where in a future, where there was a British tyranny or corruption in the government, a shadowy freedom fighter plots to overthrow it with the help of a young woman. This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you have been given an opportunity if you chose to view it with a different set of eyes. And yet there will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief systems that harbor fear, anger and hate rather than letting go to face the very emotions that enslave them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around the main character(s), especially the protagonist ‘V’ and to the eventuality, ‘Evey’ at the end of the story. Special effects and the fanatical costume visuals (with the famous Guy Fawkes mask) all is used intently to make the audience with a tint of exhilarance, to make them think, what does this mean? What is the idea that V is trying to show in injustice? Through elements found in the film I’ve found that,......
V for Vendetta’s themes of anarchy as a response to fascism is intended to be an extreme example of the true events transpiring in Britain at the time, but unlike Maus and Persepolis the people events never existed in the first place. The events as they happen in the book do not and cannot in any way reflect true events occurring in the United Kingdom on account of being set in a post-apocalyptic society, yet elements are drawn from real events are inserted to keep the novel thematically genuine to real life. V for Vendetta again utilizes techniques to force the reader into the mind of the subject . From pages 148 to 167, the reader immerses completely in Evey’s perspective, even entering into her mind as she imagines her co-prisoner writing
Symbols are used to signify values and ideas, carrying meaning beyond that which appears to be described. Political symbols, in particular, represent the ideals that define a society, and as such, are compelling forces. Some such symbols can be used to instill fear in people and subdue them to allow corrupt regimes to continue to asserting their dominance in a society and maintain control. In the face of such injustice and oppression, other political symbols can, arguably, carry an even greater value, as they can give strength to the marginalized, giving them an emblem under which they can express their ideals. Simple objects can hold such power since the ideas they symbolize are timeless, transcending a single
Media publications are a great expression of human trends and ideas. Weather movies or music, they all have a societal impact and at least allude to trends of sociology theorists. This is abundantly true in the film V for vendetta. There is a preexisting novel which also made an impact in that culture and it followed the same trends, but the film is being used because of its greater relevance to the modern era of America. The film depicts a post-apocalyptic world that has symbolism and story lines that run with modern events. These depictions can be more readily understood within the scope of Max Weber’s sociological insight and theory more specifically about his understanding on the modern world and it bureaucratization.
Do you believe in vigilantism? Do you believe in criminals and outlaws being punished for their crimes in the name of justice? What if you knew someone who was so close to you, you would do whatever it took to find those responsible for the pain they caused and punish them in the name of justice. Would you walk down the path of a vigilante and help bring about an end to their tyranny? Vigilantism can be looked at as crime if you look at it in a negative way, or it can be looked at in a positive way. Many vigilantes help make the world a better place every day by doing away with the evil people in this world who kidnap, rape, murder, and loot people in the streets. Vigilantism is justified because the vigilantes help make the world a better
