Choosing what college to attend can be a daunting process at any time. Selecting a school as an adult student can be even more difficult. Beyond the normal considerations of cost, program types, traditional school or online, and location, there are additional factors to consider as an adult student. These may include work schedule conflicts, family life, distance to travel, and credit earned for life experience. The nineteen governors who founded Western Governors University took these things into consideration when developing the school and its programs. They developed a school that offers a truly exceptional level of quality in education at a price that is around half of that charged by other schools. So if low cost,

As for this second reaction paper, I chose to react to the 1890 Land- Grant Universities 1890-2015 video. After watching this video about Justin Smith Morrill, I can say my knowledge on higher education systems during the late 1800s has broadened. Throughout watching this video on land grant acts, my eyes have opened to realizing the span of time it took to allow African Americans the right of higher education. I am surprised that it took around 30 years for the second Morrill act to come into affect. Something that leads me wanting to know more during watching this video was in regards to graduation rate. Considering the increase of students becoming accepted into universities across America, I am interested in graduation rates. This could go either way in my opinion. Lastly, I will speak about how this video relates to myself being a first
NDSU’s tuition is around $15,000 per year which includes housing and food. UMC’s tuition is $20,000 per year which also includes housing and food. It is only a $5,000 difference and U of M schools are usually much more expensive, but they also have more scholarships they will give out or accept compared to other colleges.
Another important concept to take into consideration when choosing any university is the academics. What you want to major in influences every aspect when choosing a university. Boise State has some extremely unique new facets to its education; including the nation’s only degree in raptor biology, where students can research birds of prey, and a partnership with the U.S Air Force Research Laboratory, which is a great resource for studying microelectronics( ). Some of the most popular majors at BSU are composed of health professions, business, management, marketing, engineering, and psychology.
Undergraduate students who want to be considered for enrollment must complete an admission’s application, submit verification of high school graduation or GED completion and provide transcripts for any colleges attended. Students must make arrangements to take Everglades University’s entrance examination. Alternatively, they can submit their American College Testing exam (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. Students will need a score of at least 15 on the internal exam, an SAT score of 800 or an ACT composite score of 17. Graduate students will need to submit their official transcript that they have earned a Bachelor from a college that is accredited by a Department of Education-recognized higher learning institution. They will need to have a 2.0 GPA for their undergraduate degree or a 3.0
Whether a student is looking to stay in-state or move out, the cost is still very high. According to College Board, expenses, on average, to attend a 4-year university add up to around $9,000 a year for in-state residents. Triple this amount and non-residents must pay that. Private school expenses tend to add up to around $35,000 a year (College Costs). During the 1995-1996 academic years, 66% of four year students in public institutions received some form of financial aid (Losco). Although the financial aid sounds like a good plan at the time, it causes the ones who take aid to being their adulthood in a large amount of debt. Even though there are a number of scholarships and financial aid programs available, each student must qualify and meet certain requirements that are not always met.
If you want to enter the political arena, then George Washington University is a great place to begin. This namesake is rated as one of the top universities in the United States and is known to produce many policy makers and political activists. It is located in the Washington D.C. area and would make a perfect place for you to attend college since you are so interested in the history of the United States.
The colleges and universities established in all states by the first Morrill Act in 1862 and the second Morrill Act in 1890 are land-grant institutions (Sherwood, 2004). The original mission of the land-grant universities institutions is “To teach such branches of learning as are related to agriculture and the mechanic, and arts, in such manner as the legislatures of the states may respectively prescribe, in order to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and professions in life,” (Shiplett et al., 2011, p. 84).
Westmont has large selection of majors totaling up to forty-five. They have a pre-nursing program and a pre-veterinary program, which I am interested in. I really like that Westmont has so many choices to get a degree in. The college is extremely small with 1,346 students, 337 of which are freshman. Since the school is so small the student to teacher ratio is 11:1. I really enjoy this statistic, since I find most my help comes from conversing with my teachers to learn about the subject more deeply. Having more one-on-one time with the professors’ means any terms that you do not understand you can go over them with your professor privately to get a better understanding! The small college does not lack in sports. They have twelve league sports and eleven club sports. Though they do not have intramural sports they make up for it in their abundant choices of
One must consider the annual cost of WGU at $5,780, compared to the average annual cost of a public institution at $32,617. Other online institutions also cannot compete in regards to cost,
All graduate applicants must meet the following admissions requirements: a regionally accredited four-year degree and a GPA of at least 2.7, but some departments require higher GPAs, such as a 3.0 in the final half of the student’s undergraduate program. Those who fail to meet the minimum admission requirements are considered for admission on a conditional basis. Students must submit official transcripts from previously attended colleges and additional documentation, which is determined by the academic departments. These include department applications, letters of recommendations and standardized test scores.
1. The land-grant program has shown it's flexibility that even though the program is much different than a century ago, the mission has not changed. There will always be a need to have education for agriculture, mechanical arts, and FACS because those are foundational parts or our society. The way the programs are implemented might change, but the different programs offered and overall goals of the program will not. The only way it may change in the future would be to implement more technology based programs.
