During my high school journey at Westlake, I was not happy with my peers nor the teachers that I had. Multiple times throughout my junior year I tried to persuade my mom to allow me to do homeschool. The summer before my senior year she agreed and by the second week of August I was in home school. In homeschool, I learned more about myself than I learned in my three years at Westlake. I learned that just like you can be your own best friend, you can also be own your worst enemy. Homeschool was everything I expected it to be but I did not know what to expect of myself. My first semester was not very hard, but it was not a breeze because I procrastinated throughout the semester. I told myself that next semester I was going to do better by
I began my homeschooled educated at the age of five and have continued to be home educated up to my graduation from secondary school level. Being home educated aided me to take initiative and become a self-motivated individual. Conducting my education from home helped me to concentrate on my studies without the added pressure that comes with attending a public school. It also helped me attain good problem solving skills, as occasionally I would be challenged with solving complex questions. I am very grateful to my parents for the opportunity to be home educated, as I believe I have been given a great academic start in life.
“Someday, somehow, I am going to do something useful, something for people. They are, most of them, so helpless, so hurt and so unhappy” (qtd in,l 1). Edith Cavell certainly kept her word, because by the end of World War One, she had saved hundreds of lives and had achieved many other accomplishments, changing the course of the war. Much of her childhood and early adulthood had a major impact on the choices that she made later on in her life, changing her world forever. Having a minister as a father, Cavell was taught at a young age the importance of helping others. Prior to his death, Edith had taken care of her father during his illness, which later contributed to her decision to become a nurse. She received training at the London hospital, and was presented with the Maidstone Medal after caring for victims of an epidemic of Typhoid Fever. She later went to Brussels and headed a pioneer training school for nurses at Berkindale Institute in 1907. This school consisted of top quality hospitals, schools and nursing homes by the time the war had started in 1914. World War One was impacted by Edith Cavell’s aiding both German and Allied soldiers as well as by propaganda after her death, helping to persuade the United States to join the war.
High school. This one word can mean either the best days of your life, or the worst. It depends on how you dealt with the obstacles thrown at you. During the past few years of high school, I can honestly say that I have changed a lot, not just physically, but mentally I have becomes strong enough to ( ).In my experience, these circumstances shaped me into the positive and intelligent individual I am today.
A significant challenge that I faced that I thought I might not accomplish was in sophomore year. I believed I would not be able to pass my science class. I was almost failing the entire year but the last quarter was the worst. The teacher made a huge test that would help anyone that was almost failing and I studied every night until the test which was for about a month and a half. I was sure I would still end up failing because I wasn’t sure about many of the topics we had discussed. On testing day, we had time before the test to study even more and I had one of my friends test me with flashcards that I created; there was over one hundred of them. While taking the test, I was freaking out and ended up not answering some of the questions because
When I was younger I went to El Dorado Elementary School. When I graduated In 2007 I then started homeschooling in the 6th grade, It was very different from public school. I had a teacher that was very nice and very patient with me, She knew that I was struggling with my work and I just could not understand why I wasn't able to do the work. I started to think that I had a learning disability or just wasn't smart. My teacher recommended an easier alternative which was online homeschooling. My parents thought it would work for me but unfortunately it didn't. I did this from 6th grade to the 12th grade. It made me lazy because I felt like I could always do my work later. Teachers would always called my parents to tell them that I wasn't doing
Human nature’s biggest battle can often be associated with Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theory known as “Survival of the Fittest”. In depth , the theory means that only the strongest humans will survive. While, on the other hand, the weak will not survive. This can also mean physically, mentally, and emotionally. Those who work to be the fittest or successful, can be characterized as ambitious people.

I had a difficult time fitting in and adjusting to my new school (Highland Elementary). Consequently, I began to get into fights with some of my fellow classmates. After a few incidences, and no sign of a resolution, my parents decided to have me give home schooling a try. I ended up really liking it, and before long it became routine. Studying never really took up much of my time though, as the reading subjects had always been easy for me and the only thing I really needed to improve upon was my math/arithmetic skills.
“Average? Who wants to be average?” (Rose). During my high school experience, I went through a ton of stress trying to figure out my path to educational success. I was a decently good student with grades consisting of C’s to A’s. Dealing with problems in high school made me realize what I should had done to obtain a proper education. Author Mike Rose of “I Just Wanna Be Average” and article writer Jessica Lahey of “Teaching Math To People Who Think They Hate It” both state solutions to my problems. During high school, I was not very interested during lecture and had a love and hate relationship with math. How I would improve my experience is to do more hands on activities and to learn math in a different way.
Throughout my high school years my grades were terrible. I struggled in all my classes. Until they put me in a community school from their i started to stay after school finishing all my work i even made it back to regular high school. I also went from a 2.03 to a 3.2.
During my time at the high school I managed to learn different and important skills that will be essential and that I will apply later in life. Two of the important skills that I managed to learn were demonstrating personal management and teamwork skills and to listen actively and speak clearly and coherently. I performed these skills in many classes that I took in high school, like math, english, science, also college classes. By using personal management and teamwork skills, I can use it while working in teams when you get to handle the situation that is going on and by getting to all work together and have different ideas to finish or make the project better with everyone's ideas. You get to combine uncommon ideas within each other and use
As a seventeen-year-old in high school, life is always interesting. My parents started homeschooling my older brother and me when we were in the second grade. We attended Evangel Family Christian Academy which is a school located in Montgomery, Alabama. We switched to a different cover school also located in Montgomery named Ezekiel Academy. When we decided to change schools, I was only in the seventh grade and my brother was a senior. I am still attending Ezekiel Academy and have started my junior year. I play baseball and basketball and have been blessed and fortunate to have my father coach me throughout my current high school career.
Growing up, I had always been an excellent student and enjoyed going to school. However this changed, when my parents got a divorce when I was in 8th grade. The result was that my father abandonned and left my mother, my younger brother and I. My father was the source of income for my family, as my Mother is a stay at home mom, so when he left it runined us financially. It was so bad that for nearly three years while I was in high school, we never had our own home and were bouncing around living with different family friends for as long as we could before moving in with another group of family friends. My response to the divorce was to give up on school. I stopped trying and barely managed to pass 8th grade. My bad academic habits followed me to high school where I began to care even less and less about academics. My mother, brother and I moved right before the start of my freshman year. I went into highschool not knowing a single person. By chance, I made friends with the skater crowd.
Waiting in line to go through customs I didn 't want to think about all all the things I would have to do. Support myself financially, find a place to live, figure out how to start college. It all seemed overwhelming. I immigrated on my own to US when I was seventeen. The transition was difficult, and I considered returning back to India. Even though it would have been easier to return, staying provided better opportunities. As I grappled with my new environment and struggled to acclimate. Two experiences played a pivotal role in shaping my character. First, the support I received from family and friends. The second, my work with adolescent youth. Through these I understood the importance of support and the joy of providing it. The
The first thing I am going to talk about is reasons on why public schools are a little bit better than homeschooling by seeing more people. Public schools you get to see your friends all the time unless they don’t come to school then you would see them the next day. In homeschooling it is totally the opposite of public schools, because you don’t see anybody unless you both webmail each other and start talking to one another about meeting up. If you are wanting to be homeschooled the only way that is good is that it makes your studies easier on yourself and not getting distracted by friends or anyone else. The second thing that is a little bit different to get used to is keeping up with your assignments. Homeschooling in this case is easier for a lot of people when it comes to this, because most of the time you get to go at your own pace so you don’t have to rush into finishing an assignment on time, but get to make it worth the time you took to get a good grade on it. In any public school, I have gone to is you have to work until the
