Part 1: What is a worldview? Webster’s New World College Dictionary simply defines a worldview as a noun which means the way someone thinks about the world (Agnes, 1999). Essentially, a worldview is a model of how a person views reality. It consists of attitudes and ideas about our lives and the world around us. Worldviews are molded by our backgrounds, life experiences, values instilled in us by our parents and education. In the context of religion, a worldview is an ideology of how one understands their god. Meaning and Purpose The question of Meaning/Purpose is that one question that everyone ponders in their lifetime. What is the meaning of life? For the Christian, the meaning of life is having a relationship with God, serving others so that we have eternal life. This is accomplished through Jesus Christ. We can reference Acts 4:12, John 1:12, 14:6, and 17:3 all explain how we reach God through Jesus. Morality The question of Morality in the biblical worldview deals with question of how to live our lives. The Commandments presented to the Hebrew people by Moses list 10 rules that we must adhere to. Morality is the central theme of Exodus 20. They are not man’s rules, they are God’s rules. We need to try and live by the standards set by Him. Of course, as we know from Romans 3:19-20, we cannot be declared righteous by God by works of the Law. The law only helps us to be aware of our sin. Jesus set forth the Greatest Commandment in Matthew 22:37-39. Because we are all sinners, we are to love God with all of our heart and soul. We are also to love those around us as we love ourselves. Jesus says in Matthew 7:12 that we are to do unto others as we would have them do to us. Destiny Finally, we have the question of Destiny which deals with what happens to us when we die. The Christian worldview tells us in Romans 10:9 that if we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are saved.
