Samir Moussa’s story was very interesting. It is a typical example of how culture and globalization has effect on the lifestyle and destiny of people. He is born from parents who come from different countries: a Lebanese and a Colombian. Globalization has allowed him to have direct exposure to both worlds at the same time. He has the opportunity to travel to many part of the world to experience different cultures and learn different languages. He speaks fluently three international languages including English, Spanish, and French. This advantage has given him “a real appreciation for words and their meanings” and has allowed him to “draw a parallel line between most languages and religions”. But he did not pay much attention to Arabic, which is the first language of Lebanese. People discard their traditional values as they become globalize. Like some cases in my country, parents send their children to international schools where English is the main language used for …show more content…
In my opinion, American culture controls remaining parts of the world. It has a great impact in business system that is “......a new class of people who are generally well-educated, trained professionals in the business field, who have developed a kind of global common culture”. English is becoming the most commonly spoken language in the world. Several nations chose English as their second language due to the influence of America in global market. Influence in media also is a strong proof of the spread of American culture. TV broadcasting station like Cable News Network (CNN) is a representative example. The movie industry has a powerful effect to people worldwide. What people wear, eat and even they way people speak has been influenced by American culture. For instance, McDonal’s – a American food brand has millions of restaurant all over the
First of all, the export of American culture has had a negative effect on others due to the misrepresentation of other societies and cultures. One example is with Japan in World War II, (Source 2). After American propaganda in popular culture like movies and other medias, many
The world we live in today is going through enormous changes in economics, technology, culture, politics, etc. The effects of the changes are not so clear, since it is hard to predict how each sector would affect the other and how society will be affected. However, analyzing past and present occurrences provides some information for experts to interpret society’s reaction in the future to different transformations. Globalization can be seen as a process in which societies around the world come together and expand through the combination of different forces. This paper will explore the effects of globalization on US companies, US society and economy, and the implications for other countries in the post-industrial world.
Globalization impacts every area of American life: from the products we buy to the way we do things. One of the ways globalization affects individual communities is by making those communities more diverse. Globalization makes the migration of people, as well as products and stores, more possible. There are some negative aspects of globalization. For example, globalization makes it more likely that we will see less variety of stores. The proliferation of the same stores in every neighborhood, even throughout the world, makes for a more homogenized society. I see a Starbucks everywhere, as well as McDonalds. One impact of globalization that has both pros and cons is that English has become the predominant language. English enables people from different countries to communicate, but it also means that people in the English speaking countries have an advantage.
Culture is one of the diverse and quick changing phenomena. The American culture has been changing with time. However, despite the change and evolution of the culture, the rich elements of the culture have been passed through the generations (Colby, 597). In late 19th Century and early 20th Century the American culture was more concrete and focused on ethnicity background. The whites, the blacks, the natives, and the Latinos all brought their culture in their lives. The American people then tried to incorporate these cultures which by mid 20th century became synonymous with the American people. The blend of these cultures became rich and inspiring. During the time, the American became so much involved in overseas activities. In that way the American culture began to spread (power of persuasion, 7). Looking back at the time and the current times, the culture can be stated as relatively correlated. America is currently involved actively in overseas activities. The American culture is still blended just like the culture of the late19th Century and early 20th Century. American culture still influences other cultures in the world because America has a strong involvement in overseas activities.
US globalization changed not only the United States, but the world, since anybody can sell to anyone, anywhere in the world. It has opened opportunity to many people across the globe that would have never been able to have a successful business without it. Another way it has changed is in the way people communicate with each other. People can immediately talk to somebody in another country, or post to a social website, reaching many people at once and instantaneously, globalization has definitely made the world a lot smaller.
Every single major company, not only in the United States, but in the world, has contributed to globalization. It’s hard to find a large organization that has not opted to outsource for materials or labor. Businesses and consumers find themselves enjoying most of the effects of globalization. With the countless benefits of it, the drawbacks are often not discussed. This video did a great job of explaining how globalization might be negatively impacting our economy; however, the video also did not undermine the clear advantages.
The widespread image of American culture is seen to hold a strong base for globalisation. The extensive connectivity of the modern world, confirms Marshal McLuhans prediction of the global village. Globalisation is commonly seen as western culture imputing international cultures. Internet and television have also created transnational media whereas globalisation is commonly seen as a flow of information impending of western culture. Whereas, how will the younger generation will not be able to enjoy immerging products like Apple, Krispy Kreme and Hip-Hop. Hence, the strength globalisation has on the developing world. However, this develops a dispute between globalisation and its effect on international cultures. Early mass media impact on
Today, America is seemingly defined by its popular culture which has become a major export to the whole wide world. The pop culture refers to all things that people usually do and talk about, manners and beliefs that make a society grow. The culture that is well accepted and followed by everybody in the society. For every place, there is always different style of culture that all people who lives there are subject to follow in able to fit in to that given place. America is one of the major countries that influence other nations in terms of being fashionable and making life easier by having a unique way of discovering a lot of things. Great deal of trends will be noticed by just looking around and many people probably do not realize how
Brinkerhoff, Weitz, and Ortega (2014) define globalization of culture as “the process through which cultural elements (including musical styles, fashion trends, and cultural values) spread around the globe (p. 49). Furthermore, the cultural impact globalization has imparted on American society is clearly evident in the enormous number of choices available, which includes choices concerning food, fashion, and the arts of film, dance, and music (The Impact of Globalization on the Consumer, 2014). For instance, when I dine out and have the choice of a type of cuisine to eat, just in the small city I live, there are at least three of each type of Asian (Thai, Mongolian, Japanese, and Chinese), Mexican, and Italian restaurants.
There was a time in America when people from all classes saw rising incomes from a growing economy. During the era known as The Great Prosperity, lasting from 1947-1977, the American economy grew extraordinarily due to an innovation in assembly line mass production that was first used by businessman Henry Ford. Henry Ford believed that his workers at the Ford Motor Company should be paid an income that enabled them to purchase the products that they made. Through this concept of Fordism, workers in the manufacturing sector of the economy were paid decent wages, and as the economy grew, middle class wages rose as well, and income inequality fell significantly. These higher wages induced increased consumption of goods and services, thus stimulating
Over the next decade, there will be an increased need for innovative Earth information systems to support the international space community's efforts to provide a robust infrastructure.
Through accurate and in-depth study of globalization note that it aims to remove the barriers of all kinds between the peoples of the world and to try to promote a certain lifestyle, behavior and culture of any imposition of American behavior and its system of civilization, has been helped by the huge jump occurred in international institutions and networks, concurrent with the advent of the Internet, which constitutes a serious and clear in the deepening of the phenomenon of globalization, and to work towards the idea of unification between the peoples of the world in light of the terrible and the idea of making the world a small village communications revolution is very dangerous idea melts the world cultures and religions by removing
They say that the United States of America is “The Great Melting Pot,” a place where no matter what their culture or country of origin they are accepted. Contrary to common belief, America in actuality is not a melting pot in fact, America is more like a huge salad bowl. This implies that even after coming into this country you hold on to your culture. You don’t take on the characteristics of the new culture or society; it is a mixture of a lot of different thing but you can still tell the apart in the salad. It is composed by many different people from almost every place around the world. For example, many ingredients create one dish as many Americans create the United States. British being one of this country many influences, England has had a huge impact on the states. Without Britain’s influence we wouldn’t
Globalization in the U.S. Globalization is a process of integration on an international scale. This process starts with the mingling of different opinions from around the world that become shared among different geographic locations and different groups of people. When this process takes place, other cultural aspects are shared such as products, technology and even policies. Globalization has been responsible for the many technological advances in countries around the world. Over the course of history many developing countries became developed. Advances in medicine spread from one country to the next along with education. Laws became more focused on humility and fair justice. Technology has been made communication and travel more accessible
Globalization brings more negative consequences that outweighs its benefits. One area it has really affected that gives me concern is "culture". "Globalization can be defined as the interaction and integration amongst people, companies and governments of different nations. Its a process that it's aided by international trade and investment and driven by information technology" extracted from ( globalization101.org) "Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts"(published on livesience by: zimmermann, July 12, 2017). Globalization has impacted so much negatively on culture. The section of culture I believe globalization has affected most is the fashion industry, language and the character of people world wide. Nigeria where I come from is a developing country and we see globalization as an opportunity for development. This has been one of the major mediums that has earned globalization the lands of Nigeria to dominate and our culture to alter. In the early centuries in Nigeria, women used to be known for wearing clothes that fully covered their body. And any woman seen in a cloth that exposes any sensitive part of her body(shape, breast, lap) was regarded as irresponsible and in most cases, regarded as a prostitute. Young boys were also known for wearing trousers that weren't tight on them or sagging . This is no longer the case since Nigeria embraced globalization. Today all over the streets of Nigeria, indecent dressing has captured the hearts of our youths and even the elderly. Our young girls now wear mini skirts, slacked blouse that exposes their breast, and also tight trousers all in the name of "civilization". And sadly enough even some married women Have adopted this pattern of dressing. This has lead to so many divorce and rape cases in Nigeria. Now, most guys consider sagging of their pants(trousers), wearing tight/ pencil trousers and earrings as fashion. These are things that was regarded in the early centuries as signs of madness and a show of indiscipline. Globalization has also impacted negatively on our language system. Our local dialects are no longer spoken and regarded the way it was in
