It seems like every week I am walking into a new restaurant. Whether it be because a good friend came in to town or I am just too lazy to cook, it is as if a menu is never too far from my hands. I have not the least bit of shame either. I know the negative connotation that is related to constantly eating at restaurants and I fear it not. For over time, I have become accustomed to the very art that is the restaurant experience, and in this custom I have developed a blindness to the negativity and illumined to the true experience that is dining out. You may call me an addict but I prefer the term connoisseur. Even if the label of addict must be used, the joy of being served such enchanting dishes from every fine establishment I encounter is …show more content…
Because with the atmosphere comes the flavor. Even the driest steak can drip with blood if the seats are right and the service is accommodating. In the three aforementioned restaurants, will I illustrate how eateries are perfectly classified by their type of ambiance. Most cafes are set up in a similar fashion. Upon arrival, you hear the sound of soft jazz music or introspective instrumental songs playing out over a P.A. You go to the counter and meet a “hip”, “young”, and “cool”, barista and receive coffee that (if judged in an objective nature) tastes like any other coffee. At least it should, but because on the way to the counter, you passed by several different types of arm rest chairs (each from different decades), and felt the soothing glow of the soft lighting ornamenting each fixture, the thought of this coffee grows increasingly stylistic, and upon the first sip of Java you say to yourself, “Man this place really knows how to make a cup of Joe!” Sadly, it is all a façade, a beautiful euphoric facade. In case you doubt my assessment, be sure to know that all cafes are generally known by this atmosphere. Maybe the chairs are of different sorts and styles, but the concept will remain. Maybe the music is the sweet musical stylings of Norah Jones instead of the composition of Louie Armstrong, but the idea is still there. Let us not forget one of the greatest sensations aroused while in a café: the desire to study. Is it not marvelous?
I set out to find a place to begin my observations, not knowing what to fully expect, what I may find. So I decided to look around at what is close to my home that isn’t a place I frequent or have even visited at all. Then it came to me, the Starbucks that is only about a mile away is a perfect place for me to observe subjects that I would consider different from myself, seeing as how I consider such obscene prices for coffee ridiculous. Starbucks is a very popular chain of coffee vendors that describe their product as more about quality than what Americans are used to in typical coffee joints.
Coffee brews under a drip of scalding water, beans grind in the gears of a metal mechanism set atop the bar, and the chatter of patrons syncs with the sound of steaming milk in each Starbucks cafe chain. Like most cafes, the aroma of Arabica overwhelms all others, natural light shines in through the windows to touch the wooden tables, and the murmurs of conversations can be heard throughout the edifice. However, whereas the plebeian palate that feigns good taste finds pleasure in drinking coffee in its most basic form so that the true flavors of the drink might be relished, the rising youth of our post-modern society realize that coffee is best prepared when the taste of the bean is overwhelmed by various artificial flavors and sugars—undoubtedly cancerous but utterly unimportant. These developing connoisseurs of high society, with all their charm and intelligence, make it clear that Starbucks is the only cafe from which anyone who is anyone must buy one’s coffee. Starbucks, truly a place for the cultural and coffee elite, consistently attracts three intriguingly eccentric and completely loyal customers of both sharp wit and fine intellect: the female Women’s Studies major, the flagrant homosexual male, and the out-of-place conservative.
This location impacts a majority of UCSD students because of its quality, location, and student desire for coffee beverages and contains a variety of sounds each contributing to the meaning and overall placing. The coffee cart is the Art of Espresso in Muir College, located near Library Walk and center campus. It is well known by students for having the best espressos on campus. Not only do students go to this particular coffee cart to purchase espressos, but also to have conversations with current friends, meet new people, and engage with faculty and staff outside of the classroom. The Art of Espresso generally has music playing to set the mood for the environment, inspiring conversation and exploration. David Hendy describes music’s placement in specific locations by suggesting “Instead of offering merely a pleasing background entertainment, music was increasingly thought of as something capable of offering a sublime and deeply personal experience” (Hendy 235). Individuals walk away from the Art of Espresso generally in positive moods, haven gained an experience from their interaction with individuals at the coffee cart. The Art of Espresso also has other various sounds including, people walking, people talking, music playing, monetary exchange, coffee grinders, espresso machines, and natural sounds. Each of
Ever since I was younger, I have been an athlete. Because I have always been an athlete, I have always loved food. My family also enjoys going out to restaurants to celebrate or just for a family dinner. Therefore, I have been to many restaurants in my lifetime. Now that I am a hungry athlete at Wheeling Jesuit, I enjoy visiting all of the local restaurants Wheeling, West Virginia has to offer. However, who is to say which is the best? To be able to decide which restaurant is the finest, I set up criteria to judge restaurants off of. After researching, I found food quality, respectable service, reasonable price, and atmosphere are important qualities for a restaurant to have. Based upon the criteria, Later Alligator is the best restaurant
“The concept behind the business is to create a place for social gatherings that’s a little bit outside of the norm. When most people think of coffee, they think of early morning midafternoon, quiet ambiance, bring your laptop, put your headphones on and tune out the rest of the world while you get a book report or something done. Here we’re trying to make coffee a little more social and let people know that coffee can be enjoyed as a social staple alongside music” he
Throughout the world today, addiction, in many forms, can be found throughout a vast majority of people’s lives. In many cases, these addictions are rooted from either bad relationships or troubled family issues. Drugs and alcohol, most commonly referred to as “substance abuse”, is found to be the most common addiction. In an article written by author Brittany Bronson, the idea is presented that the restaurant industry is home to many victims dealing with this addiction. Although substance abuse weighs on the shoulders of its prey, Bronson effectively uses the appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos to argue that the restaurant industry leads to substance abuse due to long shifts and lack of pay.
As you head toward the entrance of the restaurant, you will see hosts standing in the lobby to greet people with bright smiles on their faces. The hosts will ask you how many are eating and once you tell them the number and pay at the entrance, the host will ask where you would like to sit. The restaurant has red, smooth, comfortable leather booths, which the guest can sit in. Furthermore, people have a choice between sitting down in the back or near a window. The restaurant is enormous and has attractive colors which make the room spacious, a lot of interesting pictures, and other decorations on the walls. The entire restaurant is packed with people eating, sharing laughter, and enjoying their meal.
Having visited a local restaurant here in Montgomery on March 3, 2016, I noticed that there were some sloppy eaters there during my visit. My siblings and I went to this popular restaurant to get us some good soul food. We went there to break bread and fellowship with one another. The restaurant that we visited is a very nice place to go whenever one desires some down home cooking. In this paper I will discuss my observation of the sloppy eater I saw at this restaurant.
The National Coffee Association found that the average coffee consumption in the United States is 2.96 cups of coffee per day in 2016 (NCA Coffee Drinking Trends Survey, 2016). According to the report, daily consumption of espresso-based beverages has nearly tripled since 2008 (NCA Coffee Drinking Trends Survey, 2016). Therefore, people hang out mostly in coffee shops, where they can enjoy their time with a fresh coffee. Indeed, coffee shops are not only serving coffee recipes, but also give a unique space to different customers, like meeting point, living room, and remote office. A city’s coffee shop culture is also an insight into the way that city lives. A lot of
Consequently, Starbucks is a reputable establishment and this particular one has a great energy in the room. The subtle sounds of coffee cups being stacked pairs with the soft sounds of country and classical music. The employees all create a welcoming and comfortable place of business which is a relaxing for all who enter the shop.
When visiting a highly acclaimed restaurant, the crème-de-la-crème, it must excel in all categories, but a deficit could still be recoverable. Like wine, some restaurants get better with age. La Familia has been a Waco favorite for over 10 years and they plan to keep it that way. The staff have found out what people tend to favor as well as what they do not and continue to mold the restaurant’s menu and facilities into the best it can be. As an avid foodie or gourmet, I like to think that my criteria on restaurants are among the most respected. Having such a well-traveled palate, the key points of judgement that I have curated are accepted widely. Food—this is thought to be the most critical part of a dining experience, but in all actuality, it is not. The food a restaurant serves could be scrumptious, but if the atmosphere of the restaurant is not up to par, the overall standard of the
Dave Thomas an American restaurateur and a philanthropist once said, “It all comes back to the basic. Serve customers the best-tasting food at a good value in a clean, comfortable restaurant, and they'll keep coming back.” (thomas). Everyone can agree on Dave Thomas, but I have a couple more criteria to add to his idea of a great successful restaurant. If I go out to eat I might as well pick a place that, though may be expensive, has scrumptious food because why bother going to spend money on food you can make yourself? A great restaurant has to meet three of my criteria’s: the Décor and atmosphere, impeccable service and cleanliness, and most importantly the food.
He was a friend. Nothing suspicious. Ever since I can remember he has been here. I guess you can say he was more of a family member than anything. Ted Bundy worked for my dad at the shop. We occasionally invited him to family dinners which eventually led to him coming over every night. He was a lonely guy and we kind of felt bad for him. He really didn’t have anything to look forward to at his home. We bought him a dog one Christmas. But that didn’t last long. He apparently ran away a couple months later.

Christine Barnes is a very dear friend of mine. She is one of the most kindest, funniest, and trustworthy friend I have met so far in my college career. I met Christine during EOP Residential Bridge, 2016. She was very quiet and kept to herself. She very much reminded me of how I use to be back in my middle school days. Back then, although I hoped to make friends, I use to keep to myself but in hopes that one kind person would approach me and start a conversation. Christine and I both had Professor.Glenn Omatsu class during the summer, fall, and spring of our freshman year. During the summer, she sat in the seat in front of me. Because she was so quiet, I decided to start a conversation. She was very shy and seemed to nervous to speak. We spoke very briefly. As the summer passed, our conversations grew. As the year went on, we grew as really good friends and have helped each other with academics. She has been a good friend to me and hopefully we remain friends throughout our college journies here at the university.
