Why Do You Think Nursing Should Be Considered A Job

Peter Crosta M.A (2014) says that nursing is a healthcare profession focused on caring for the service user and their families giving the best possible quality of care to a service user no matter their condition until death. It will allow the service user to recover from illness, control their illness or reach an optimal status of health that they can control. Hunt et al (1994) suggests that the profession of a nurse would place great importance on nurse training and states that a nurse cannot be competent at something unless they have specific training on an area.

I define my philosophy of nursing within the three nursing domains of person, health, and environment. My goal is to communicate the importance of nursing as a knowledge-based career, depending not only on the nurse fulfilling her role but also on the patient’s compliance. A patient must learn to provide self-care at home in the same capacity as the nurse would provide care in the clinical setting. I discuss various subjects within nursing. I explain why I want to be a nurse, what I believe a nurse’s role is, the different domains of nursing, and where I believe nursing will be in the future. Nursing is defined in the lesson as the care provided to restore or maintain health is the function of nursing. Care is provided to aid the human response to health and illness (Chamberlain, 2013). I find this central concept of professional nursing to be one of the most important concepts in my practice as a nurse. In order to be a good nurse we have to first and foremost nurse. This is not an easy thing to accomplish at the high levels our patients deserve. I take great pride that I am a member of several professional organizations and hold certifications at the highest levels pertinent to my practice. I take the time outside of my job to maintain currency and educational sharpness above and beyond what is required of me at my job, because it matters to the people I take care of. In critical care nursing we are taking care of an ever increasing number of complex sick patients and are required to know far beyond the scope we all learned in nursing school originally. It goes back to our socialization with experienced nurses to help us transition in to the new roles

Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person.

Nursing is a self-motivated and multifaceted discipline, one that requires skilled, knowledgeable, and self-sufficient practitioners. The roots of nursing are firmly based on service to other individuals, groups, and communities.

Nursing is an amazing profession to pursue. It can be stressful but has so many rewarding moments. I’ve been passionate about nursing since middle school and it’s not something I take lightly. A higher education is extremely important to me, especially since I am a first-generation college student.

The greatest aspect about nursing is that it is never going to be just a job and is even more than a merely profession. Instead, it is a belief system or way of life and not a discipline that can simply be practiced then abandoned to the dictates of a time clock. To simply say that “I love people” or want to “help people get better” does not demonstrate the drive behind this feeling. Articulating my philosophy is not an easy task, to better explain my philosophy of nursing, I am going to use some values that I have learned. These tools truly explain how I feel and what has motivated me to pursue nursing as a career.

“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription” (Val Saintsbury 2010). This quote is only one, of among thousands of quotes that represent nursing. There are thousands of definition of what a nurse is but there is not one simple definition that we can use to determine the meaning of a nurse. Nursing is one of the most competitive fields in college. With that being said, nursing has a variety of positions that requires a heart, and a head of determination to accomplish such a goal. Being a nurse is not something small, it reflects your personality and who you are. I picked the career of nursing because its my passion to become one. Being a nurse comes with education requirements that is very difficult. Sue Smith, executive chief nurse at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust, started as a healthcare support worker in 1987. Sue Smith was interviewed and she was asked what made her become a nurse and her response was “it was one profession where I can make a difference every day”. (Smith 2015). Her response was very truthful and inspiring to others who want to become a nurse.

Nursing is a profession that you have to be dedicated to in order for you and recovering patients to have positive outcomes. Some very important concepts regarding nursing involve, critical thinking, professional values, therapeutic techniques/therapeutic relationships, patient-centered care, evidence-based practice and ethics. Nursing first started with Florence Nightingale. Nightingale was a bedside nurse who cared for hurt soldiers. She showed true values of a caring nurse, but nursing has definitely evolved as time has gone on. She pledged to nursing. She said “I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession,

Nursing involves many aspects throughout our everyday lives. Nursing can be speculated in many components such as physically, mentally, and socially. When discussing what nursing is, there are many definitions that can come into play. Nursing is when you are on the clock and when you are off the clock. The knowledge is plentiful and played out on a daily basis. You must be a quick thinker in most situations. Most of the time your thoughts and feelings are going to play a big role as you being a nurse. It is very much well expected. There are many roles need to be performed out as nurses, and when it is your profession you will do everything you can to fulfill every part of it. . “To do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can, in spite of all we go through; is to be a nurse”(Rawsi William,2016). “The character of a nurse is as important as the knowledge she possesses” (Carolyn Javis,2016).

To a majority of students all over the world, becoming a nurse is very exciting as one is accorded the opportunity to help people who are in need of medical care thus having an impact on their lives. However being a nurse is not always as exciting as most people perceive it to be. In that aspect before venturing into the nursing profession, there are certain aspects that one has to bear in mind.

A profession can mean multiple things to certain individuals. Nursing as a profession is something everyone is not capable of accomplishing. Having the right mindset, putting in the right amount of effort, and being able to have to love and care for what you are doing for others is the right direction for the nursing field. What make nursing different from any other profession is the everyday duties we have to accomplish for the life of others who are in need of the care they need. Nursing does require prolonged specialized training, has a service orientation and has an ideology of service to others (Chitty & Black, 2011, p. 62). As nurses we have to be them for our patients, clients, and recipients. This is a major reason why it takes the abundant amount of knowledge and stringent training to be apart of such a great nursing
