One developmentally appropriate practice to help a 5 year old remember to be respectful is by presenting a poster during circle time with the title of what is respect and below that will also say good manners are necessary to show respect for others. There will be three big squares. In each of these squares will present three respectful manners to follow in the classroom. The first square will be titled hello and goodbye and it will have examples on when and how to use these words. The second square will be titled please and thank you. In this square it will have pictures and examples on how to use this manner respectfully. The last square will be titled Table manners. The purpose of this question was to encourage the group to think about how they feel when someone is rude or ignores them opposed to how they feel when someone gives them full attention and how attitudes can be ‘contagious’.

One behavioral issue that can be observed in schools is disrespect. Being respectful means that you show others you care about their feelings and well-being. Whereas, disrespectful behavior shows little regard for the feelings of others. Disrespect towards teachers specifically, can present as disruptive and confrontational behavior (McNeely, 2017). For example, a student displaying disrespectful behavior may say that they do not care about the lesson, or say that their teacher is stupid.
