One. Why the North Korea is nightmare?
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the tiny nation that located in the northern part of Korean Peninsula of East Asia. It is with the deepest concern of one of major nuclear threats to not only the USA but also to Asia Pacific region that requires a robust and unified response from the nations, particularly in the Asia Pacific. In military aspects, the North Korea is considered to have sixth largest military force in the world and continues to build up its conventional military capability with the progress of projecting strategic power in spite of its economic hardship.
In fact, for more than 3 decades, “North Korea has lived through one upheaval after another. Political unrest, economic troubles and diplomatic isolation combined have put the country into an impoverished and desperate situation.” Nevertheless, North Korea has significantly been developing its strategic purpose ballistic missile and nuclear programs regardless of a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The strategic purpose of North Korean missile and nuclear program provoked agitation since its very first test of a nuclear device in the fall of 2006. According to CNN news, “North Korea has conducted its fifth and potentially most powerful nuclear test on 9 September 2016, the fifth since 2006, and the North Korea has claimed to have successfully detonated a nuclear warhead that could be mounted on ballistic rockets.” I personally assume
Kim Jongun, has mentioned before that he wants the world to look up to his strong country as a nuclear power, rather than just a mere country with multiple sanctions shouting big words. This in the past has led to various consequences from hegemonies all around the world who feel threatened by the implications of a young tyrant in charge of ICBMs. This is a clear example of the security dilemma in which the entire world, the anarchy that it is, has to control minor nations that strive for hegemony at the expense of the larger nations’ security and loss of leverage. Unfortunately, it seems that despite the clear warnings from the superior nations, the North Korean dictator has no interest in abiding by international rules and is far more fascinated with realist ideologies of projections of power.
North Korea, formally known as the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a relic of the Cold War and the world’s last remaining totalitarian Stalinist dictatorship. Arguably the most secretive state in the world, North Korea poses a unique set of challenges to the world, especially to its democratic and capitalist neighbor, South Korea, formally known as the Republic of Korea (ROK). As one of the last remnants of the Cold War era, North Korea remains an anomaly of the international system due to its unpredictable nature and disregard for international norms. With the recent bombardment of the South Korean Island of Yeongpyong and the sinking of the warship Cheonan, tensions between the two Koreas are at the lowest point since
The conflict I am focusing on is the conflict between North Korea and the USA.
The U.S. helped to divide the Korean peninsula at the end of World War II, and then waged war against North Korea in the 1950s. Although the U.S. signed a peace agreement rather than a peace treaty with North Korea after the war, its policy toward the country changed. Instead of trying to overthrow the North Korea government, the U.S. government adopted a policy of containing communism. During the 1980’s, associations between North Korea and the U.S. start to take on a new diplomatic form. North Korea’s nuclear weapons program had become a pressing international issue
Since the 1950’s North Korea has posed as dangerous threat to The United States and its allies. With North Korea development of Nuclear arms and its consistent hostile rhetoric and actions towards the United States. With the North Korea’s development of a long range ICBM, more now than ever the United States has been put into a position where its and many of its
In the article “Should the United take more aggressive action to prevent North Korea from building a nuclear arsenal?”, it explains how the power of possessing lethal weapons can affect international affairs, and this is a concern that U.S. wants to prevent a war. The article describes how this became an issue after the Korean War; U.S. tried to prevent communism to spread, so in order to do it, the Peninsula of Korea was divided in the 38th parallel, making North Korea communism and South Korea democrat supported by the U.S. Furthermore, the article argued about the nuclear arsenal that North Korea possess since the early 2000’s and U.S. tried to stop them to develop such weapon. In order to make them stop, U.S. and many other countries tries
The Korean peninsula has been a volatile area since the end of World War II. Today it is the last example of a single nation divided between two states, represents the longest division of ideologies, and is the archetype of enduring Cold War symptoms. Although small in size, The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been the biggest obstacle to regional stability in Asia, its militant and hostile policies posing a threat not only to western aligned nations, but also to its former and present benefactors, Russia and China. This dangerous country represents a very important target for the United States’ Intelligence Community, an extremely difficult one to exploit, but one that cannot be ignored as North Korea’s ambitions
The North Korean government continues to financially fund the research and testing of nuclear and ballistic missiles. Little information is known about the North Korean nuclear program and has been made available to foreign nations due to the secrecy and isolation of international affairs. The threat of a nuclear strike from North Korea has become an increasingly serious matter for many nations including the U.S. and its Asian allies, Japan and South Korea. Currently, there are only nine nations known by intelligent analysis that possesses the resources to manufacture nuclear weapons which do include the U.S. However, North Korea is the only nation in the 21st century to conduct a nuclear missile test that has been reported by North Korean
It is evident that North Korea is currently a global threat, for it is a very powerful and threating nation. North Korea has an abundance of power in the nuclear warfare and technology departments. They have the ability to create destructive hydrogen bonds, and are moving towards building a full nuclear arsenal. North Korea also has a profusion of hackers to conduct in cyber warfare against enemies. Since North Korea possesses weapons of mass destruction as well as many highly trained cyber hackers, they are a serious and dangerous global threat.
The North Korean problem with the United States has been an ongoing experience since about 1945 to present day 2016. In 1969, A US reconnaissance plane was shot down by North Korea MiG-21 aircraft over the Sea of Japan, which started a conflict with them and us. Fast forward a few years and in 1998 North Korea fires a missile over Japan which rattles the sword for the United States letting us know, hey we have missiles. In 2002, President Bush labels North Korea as part of the "Axis of Evil" which sparks a small hatred toward the United States. In 2003, North Korea decides to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Then in 2006, North Korea fires more missiles in July, then tests its first nuclear device in October. Now fast forward to present day 2016, North Korea tested their 5th nuclear test which is also said to me the
Isolated, underdeveloped, and strictly controlled by a regime, North Korea stands as the only totalitarian state to have survived a change in leadership (Behind the Wall…, 2012). North Korea maintains their control and power over the people through many different techniques: stranglehold on information, secret police, concentration camps, and control of the country’s economy. However there is one other factor that drives great fear into its people and the world; their development of nuclear weapons along with their propaganda techniques. On March 3rd, 2016, just last Thursday, North Korea under the direct order of Kim Jong Un, “fired short-range projectiles into the sea” to express their anger over the recent adoption of harsh U.N. sanctions (North Korea makes…, 2016). The following day, the Supreme leader “ordered his military on standby for nuclear strikes at any time” in order to “ramp-up propaganda push in the face of what it portrays as an effort by South Korea and the U.S to overthrow its leadership” (North Korea makes…, 2016). All these threats of nuclear weapons and the North Korea’s slay approach on launching their bombs have created a uproar throughout the world.
North Korea appears on the international stage as a country existing beyond the world we all know. It isolates its citizens from the rest of international community and does not obey any rules determined by international law, but requires respect and recognition. Moreover, North Korea is one of the countries that remains aggressive towards its neighbors and applies various terrorist techniques, i.e. illegal contraband, political terror and mass abductions of other countries’ citizens in its foreign policy. The reasons for which the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) behaves so unpredictably and irrationally are diversified. First of all, the DPRK as a country is managed very irrationally – regimes of Kim Il-sung and
This article deals with the United States and its attempts to deal with the dangerous matters of North Korea. Some of the problems that were brought up in this article were North Korea’s plan to restart a plutonium based nuclear program at Yongbyon, North Korea’s plan to build a new highly enriched uranium (HEU) nuclear program, and the tension that emerged between the United States and South Korea. Even though many problems were occurring, there were some positive things that were happening at the time. The United States began negotiating with North Korea and South Korea about establishing railroad links, demining portions of the demilitarized zone, allowing athletes to compete in the Asian games, and allowing abductees to visit Japan.
North Korea reportedly developed nuclear weapons and believed it can reach the mainland United States with nuclear warheads. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has shown himself to be just as aggressive and dangerous as his father and grandfather, previous leaders of DPRK. As it is clear from actions, DPRK will continue to conduct additional confrontational acts in order to achieve its foreign policy goals. And
Through the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) claims and other intelligence there is ample evidence that the state continues to grow nuclear capabilities, specifically through upgrading operation delivery systems. Estimates now show nuclear weapons could reach as far as Europe and the western United States. The DPRK also has a large standing army, though it suffers from outdated and poorly kept equipment. Nonetheless, North Korea benefits from the strength of its traditional army and is expected to be strong in asymmetrical warfare. The DPRK’s leader, Kim
