This process is called a business process model since it is a graphical representation of the transactions, events, and results that can be described and documented. Once an analyst has gathered all the information they need on a business process then can either sketch out the model by hand, or use a computer program that uses business process modeling notation. Business process modeling notations are a set of universally understood shapes and symbols that represent the events, processes and work flows.
For example, if an analyst was hired to work for a supplier who wanted to revamp the software they use in order to track inventory that goes in and out of the warehouse, they would first need to gather all information on the businesses profile in order to better understand how the business side of the company works. Once the analyst has a better idea of the company’s overall business plan, they can better evaluate the company’s needs. They then need to gather information on how products enter the warehouse, are sorted and inventoried, as well as how they leave the warehouse. Once the analyst gathers this information he/she can great a business process model. This not only serves as a visual aid for the analyst, but also could be used as a graphical way to ensure you fully understand how the company works but presenting it to the customer and getting feedback.
