Researchers have found that military women are at a higher risk of being sexually assaulted than civilian, 8% to be specific (Bostock et al., 2007, Compbell et al., 2010, Coyle et al., 1996, Martin et al., 1998, &Turchik et al., 2010). So, one might ask why are women in the military more prevalent than those in the general population to being assaulted? The answer is complicated, but from those participants that reported a sexual assault or knew of someone who reported a sexual assault it is clear that the reason for women being at a higher risk of sexual assault in the military is do with the lack of actions taken, when a sexual assault is reported. It can also be said that because the military is a male dominated workforce, women are at a higher risk of being assaulted. From the findings we can see that young, powerless (in terms of rank), single/unmarried women are at a higher risk of being sexually assault, and this can be contributed to the power dynamic in the military, which favors men since they are the majority group. All in all, do to the military being dominated by men it makes sense that the minority group in this case women are at a higher risk of being sexually assaulted than civilian women who are at least closer to being on equal footing with men in general
