Ionic Compound:

These are the compounds that consist of ions. Ion having a positive charge on it is called cation while the one having negative charge is called an anion.

Two element compounds are ionic only when one element is metal and the other is non-metal.

Type 1  ionic compounds are those in which the cation has only one form or charge. 

Type 2  ionic compounds are those in which the cation can have multiple forms.
